1:14 Something I never noticed until someone pointed it out for me. She’s checking the tree line while surrounded by soldiers she fought and bled alongside with. All of a sudden she senses them getting violent and looks around for whatever enemy they must have noticed! Instead of her halfassing to look at the troopers behind her (like I always thought she did) she’s trusting them so much that her immediate reaction is to look for the enemy *she* must have missed, until she gets a blaster bolt in the back...

I don’t know if he was sorry for their collective actions in Operation: Knightfall. If there’s any indication to their hesitation to shoot an unaffiliated senator, it was here and after Bail escaped with “don’t worry about him, let him go.” Palpatine knew he couldn’t have any senators injured or it would hurt his big lie that the Jedi were the aggressors.

The saddest part of this scene is Yoda’s reaction. The pain he would feel sensing tens of thousands of Jedi dying, many of them he likely knew, all dying so quickly. And as another commenter pointed out, the the emotional pain the millions of clones suffered due to the chip forcing them to execute their generals, many of them being loved by their troops.

Order 66 was 1 of 150 contingency orders designed for the security of the Republic. Order 66 was in case the Jedi committed treason and attempted a cue. The clones did what they needed to do and carried out the order. They were good soldiers

it's much better with legends' interpretation, the clones just viewing this as another mission, another set of orders to carry out their duty to the republic, unwavering and focused to the end even more fitting when you realize in legends, not every jedi was a saint like anakin & obi-wan and some really were genuinely incompetent or treated their troopers like they were second class or expendable but it wouldn't have mattered if the jedi were good to them or not, the troopers were loyal to the republic & the chancellor, not the jedi

Imagine how awful that must’ve felt for Yoda. Yoda was sensing and feeling the entire Jedi order, everything he’s worked for and devoted his entire life to, completely destroyed in an instant. Most of them are likely recordings streamed to clones and throughout the galaxy to save time Save for those with important tasks such as personally ensuring Obi-Wan’s death, ordering Maul’s and Ahsoka’s deaths, a and whatever else that was in Palpatine’s agenda which he had to give specific orders to clones The rest simply needed to hear “Execute Order 66” as a recording that’s sent across the galaxy at once

In the original canon, the clones weren't hypnotized. They actually knew what they were doing but they were not happy with it. They regretted killing their Jedi generals but the kaminoans did say they will take any order without question, even if they hate it. Battlefront 2 (2005) explained this.

@@tsurugi5yes. But what's more stupid, is the fact, that the clones had such strong bonds to their jedi generals and were humanized in the new Disney Canon and that's probably the reason the chips were made in the 1st place. The clones from the Clone Wars Multimedia Project version were more like organic droids, taking every order without question due to their genetic modification to be more obedient and less independent, like Lama Su described them in AOTC and their relationship with the jedi wasn't on the same level as in the Disney Canon. That's why there was no such thing as the inhibitor-chip needed for them to execute the jedi at the end of the Clone Wars.

@keyshawnwatkins4362
@keyshawnwatkins4362 Жыл бұрын
Well, the scene by itself is still sad. Seeing the Jedi be betrayed and executed in the context of the film is very heartbreaking and dark. I think, to a lot of people, the only reason why most find it heartbreaking after The Clone Wars came out was because we actually got to know all the Jedi that would be killed during Order 66, like Plo Koon, Aayla Secura, and Ki-Adi Mundi, who were mostly just random Jedi with little importance to the movies. Same with the Clones. The Clones are just depicted as killing machines in ROTS who have no problem killing the Jedi even after serving alongside them for 3 years. The Clone Wars actually shows the Clones as independent, thinking, and unique individuals with their own personalities. They bonded with the Jedi and became friends with them, which now makes the betrayal even more devastating given their history together. Add the fact that the Inhibitor Chips are forcing them to carry out this order, and it makes the scene even more of a tragedy. Not only are the Jedi victims in this conflict, but so are the Clones. All played and manipulated by Palpatine to ultimately destroy each other, allowing him to rule the galaxy unchallenged.

@@kole2984 Exactly. Stuff like this is what makes Order 66 even more tragic. The Jedi and the Clones were both pawns in Palpatine’s game. Once they were no longer of use to him, he quickly got rid of them to insure that no one could stop his rise to conquest.

Yoda dropping his cane really makes this scene. The fact that he can sense not just all those lives being suddenly snuffed out at once, but also the massive betrayal. I imagine that since these are Jedi being killed, their last moments were practically broadcasted at once to anyone in tune with the force as much as Yoda. He didn’t just feel them dying, he also felt their pain, confusion, and anger as they were betrayed by those they had fought next to for years. Even if most masters were capable of controlling their emotions in the most intense situations, the younger ones and those less trained in meditation, no doubt felt incredible variations of anger and sadness. Yoda is feeling all of that at once.

There’s a scene in the 2005 StarWars Battlefront 2 game where the clone diary says (mainly during Ayla secruas death) that they were glad they were wearing helmets, they didn’t want anyone to see their tears Damn man that hit me

That is the one thing I don't really like about the new inhibitor chip cannon, it takes away some of the already gut-punchingly powerful emotion. However, I see why they did it, after the clone wars series, anything else would have felt forced. It was too clear that waaay too many clones would have defected, and having it be brainwashing or whatever was simply necessary for it to make sense. But yeah... that line fucked me up as well
@ryang6865

They still probably felt emotional about it even if they brainwashed if they a stronger bond with their Jedi than other clones.

@@Neptune0404 I agree that it was necessary to include the inhibitor chips in the new canon because as you have pointed out, a lot of Jedi would have survived Order 66 simply because the clones under their command would refuse to follow orders. Unless of course they were serving under Jedi like Krell.

NeoNep it didn’t matter they were already brainwashed at birth that they were to serve 2 things the chancellor and the republic the Jedi were just put in charge, of course shoot now ask questions later, they were to be relieved of duty, if commander grey could snap out of the trance that means most of the clones at the temple should’ve been able to do the same. That’s why the chips are dumb, a lot of the clones in legends felt like pawns and nothing more they couldn’t wait to be freed from the Jedi cuz they knew where their true loyalty lies

"I was on Felucia when I received the order. An order I thought we never would of had to carry out. We had fought long and hard in the war under General Aayla Secura. We bled together, fought together, mourned the loss of brothers together. She was truly one of us, a sister to us. Hell many of us use to tease Commander Bly about falling for her. At the end of the war I remember thinking how the nightmare we suffered would finally come to an end. Never had I thought I would of been ordered to do so that hurt more than the entire war combined. We were ordered to gun her down for treason. The Jedi attempted to assassinate the Chancellor, to overthrow the senate, to destroy the Republic. I could never form a conclusion of the rest of the order. But I thought to myself, it couldn't had been her. Aayla would never had betrayed us. But we couldn't question it. We had to make a choice, to choose between our love for her or our loyalty to the Republic, the thing that gave us our purpose, our brotherhood, our very existence. Once we weighed that with the fact that Aayla would likely be hunted the rest of her life, the choice became clear to us on what we had to do. Bly gave us the order to lead her to the front of the field. Let her believe that one last time we would fight together the way we did for so long, only this time the shots fired wouldn't be from the droids, but us, . I could feel the pain Bly had just as much as the sorrow I had under my own helmet. But we were soldiers, we were the shield of the Republic, and whether we liked it or not, she was no longer one of us. The best thing we do in honor and love of her is show her mercy. She wouldn't know and wouldn't feel the pain for long. And so we lead her to that field, watched her prepare for battle. I felt the tears in my eye of what we were about to do. I could only whisper to myself, "Forgive me." And so we fired and kept firing, even after her body touched the ground we would not stop unleashing the bolts, even after she laid motionless we would not stop. We didn't know how to. We didn't want to, to end the action and reflect that what we did was just done. After the ammo was depleted we saw her, gone from us. I only wished I would've known then that the Republic's death was not far behind. Maybe if I did, I would've known that being a good soldier wasn't who I wanted to be. That I wanted to be a good man. My only hope is that perhaps one day I will have the chance to make things right, that maybe something out there will make sure her death wasn't in vain." - 327th Clone Trooper, 19 BBY

Being the master planner he was, I'm sure he had a comm system setup that gave him a direct line to all the clone commanders who were assigned to Jedi leaders so that when the time came he could give them the order without delays, or disruption. I can still only imagine Ki-Adi-Mundi's reaction. In the heat of battle, he was clearly about to lead an almost suicidal charge, something you'd only do with soldiers you trust to follow you. But everything stops. The droids stop firing at you, the footsteps of those behind come to a halt, and in a moment of confusion, you turn around to see your comrades taking aim. Being betrayed by friends is one thing, but on the frontlines in the heat of battle by comrades?
