So awesome !!! The original toys we all want cost way too much ! I also make copys of the great playsets . You really do get an appreciation of all the design and imagination that went into the old sets . Looks so cool . I have wanted a cardboard death star for ever . Made a few different versions for my channel . But dude . You have the best death star set up ever ... It came out great ! Love the working trash compactor !!!!!

Iv done my versions of he mans eternia , and more ,its late and hard to think lol . But have not uploaded them yet (better get on that soon) Also just make playsets that have that old vintage feel to them . The playset is such an underrated art form . Id take a well drawn out cardboard playset anyday over the high tech playsets they have now adays . As far as recommendations , Improvising ! I have to keep what i use on a small small budget for sets. But i allways find things around the house that i can convert into something that i can use for a set . A.k.a your package wrap for the guner cover. Smart ! And make messing up your friend. Youll be surprised at how much you learn by messing up . And good will always has playsets that can be painted and toorked to make an awesome star wars set or g.i joe ext.. Cant believe you did what we all thought about as kids ! A mega death star and then you top that with the palitoy deathstar on top . Id seriously be on the floor playing with that for hours.

@@tydiriumhanger1320 sorry man ,just saw your question . Its a great diorama ! calling it a playset is a bit of a stretch to me . Lol . But it is nice ! But for the price, id rather just get an old set of Ebay that has trap doors and spinning cave walls ect . On another note. We get repro figures but no repro death star ? American or international ? Still think a reproduction of the palitoy death star would out sell the repro figures ....

I fondly remember many of dozens of hours playing only my copy here in Australia. Sadly my copy was destroyed in a flood. I think that you have done well with this. I may even get tempted to blow up the hanger section as a display for my original falcon.

I found the reflective duct tape very expensive for me. I made my reflective parts with aluminium foil from a soda can. It worked great! Just be very carefull because the aluminium foil is very very sharp, you can cut yourself very easily very bad!

Haha, you need to make yourself a Styroslicer for that foam-board! Looks like you did an amazing job, recreating this, despite the small discrepancies. That night-light packaging gunner station is brilliant. Well done!

I built one of these years ago with regular corrugated cardboard instead of foamboard. If I was to do it again, instead of buying up board games like you suggested, a cheaper option might be to get large gift boxes from Penneys, Kohls, Macys, etc. and laminate two or three of them together. That will give you the strength without having to compensate for the foamboard thickness. Instead of tape, I used 3M Spray Glue to attach the artwork to the cardboard. A good trick for making clean folds in the cardboard/foamboard is to cut a V shaped slot on the inside of the fold.

For your clips, you can get plastic corner brackets at menards or home depot for lit .15 cents a piece.

Hi, Really impressive work. I had one of these as a child and very foolishly binned it when I was a teenager... My son is now getting into starwars and keeps reminding me about how I got rid of my death star! So I need to make one. The question I have is how did you manage to get the pieces printed out to exactly the correct size - what instructions did you give at the printmakers? N.B. A couple of comments from your video - I vaguely recall that the printed stormtrooper figures were not exactly to scale with the plastic figures (the printed ones were a bit taller I think). I also recall that the trash compactor door was hinged at the top.

I had the print shop just print every file to whatever size it was and gave them no specifics. At 13 mins in this vid it shows 2 circles that were way too big and I think I had them reprint them down to 7 inches and one part was redundant but it has been a while
