In 1977 Star Wars was the very first movie I saw. Different people may have different opinions, but as far as I'm concerned, Rey taking the name Skywalker is the single greatest moment in StarWars. It breaks the cycle of the story being about literal bloodlines and makes it about family. The way I see it, that's a far more profound and important message. And no matter how many criticisms there are about this trilogy that single accomplishment overrides them all.

The nine movies are a poetic circle. Palpatine helped create Anakin, and he stole Anakin from the Jedi. Here we are, where the Skywalker family reversed the curse, guiding the devil's offspring to become a Jedi. And there's this: The Emperor knew about life and death, how to resurrect, and Sith possess one another, partly why there's a rule of two. Imagine you're the Emperor, and your prized student, and his son, turn on you. Palpatine is so patient and determined, and you're right... he's ALWAYS got a plan, a master plan. He made everyone connected to Anakin and his children suffer. The only thing he feared was his own family, and it finally caught up to him. I think Snoke was getting too powerful, as an entity. I'm sure Palpatine wanted Kylo Ren to murder both him and both of his parents, and Luke too, but again, "You're overconfidence is your weakness", as Luke said. Fans wanted more Sheev Palpatine, and that's what they got! Darth Maul survived; it makes far more sense that Palpatine did.

Leia's scenes here are unused footage shot for The Last Jedi, shot before Carrie Fisher passed away. The plot for that movie, as well as this one, had to be reworked as a result. Also, Luke: "A Jedi's weapon deserves more respect" when he threw it away at the beginning of Last Jedi 🤣

HelloTara!😊 They somehow reunited the Emperor's soul with a clone of his body. They show some of the failed clones in a water tank. He did say some paths to the dark side were unnatural. Finally. Been checking every day! This is my favorite of the ST. I was surprised watching your reactions that you ended up saying 8 was your favorite. I think JJ took everything, brought it all together and made it all make sense. Of course it had to be the emperor. He was there from the beginning. The whole cheating death thing came full circle, and that he was always the phantom menace manipulating everything from the shadows. Go back to 8 when Snoke is holding Rey in the air and says, give me everything , The emperor's theme is playing! Of course he filled heads with lies and diversions to bring about his plans as he always had. Been had to die as Vader did. There was no redeeming him in the eyes of the Galaxy, plus he gave all his life force to bring her from death or almost death. Finally, about the back story and such, remember In the OT, we just accepted everything about Vader, the emperor, etc, with knowing hardly any details about them. That's why there is a PT. So we should need prequels to this in the same way, but I think we learned enough about Luke and Ben in the first two movies. It's all clear. Anyway, I had tears when you did and thought you'd like it as much as me but I'm at least glad you enjoyed it.😁

@ 1. They go to a cloning base on Nevaro in season 2 where they find strange bodies in tanks and that implies that the remaining empire still thinks about cloning. 2. Moff Gideon straight up tells the viewers that he was making force sensitive clones of himself implying that is actually can be done. They needed Grogos blood to do it and They got it. Do you agree? Also, the Bad Batch S3 is all about project necromancer or in other words, Palpatines return. He was planning it from the start. 🥵

This movie has grown on me. I never loved the plot but there are some great moments in it. And even tho Carrie Fisher's role was a little awkward because they only had unused footage to work with, I'm glad we got to see Leia in this final chapter. The Palpatine plot never bothered me. I read the Thrawn trilogy way back when they came out. It opened with Luke, who had fallen to the dark side for a time, having served a reincarnated emperor Palpatine. The Thrawn trilogy is revered, and that's how it began. The Sith always sought immortality. It makes sense that the emperor actually pulled it off.

All nine of the movies are about how a good man turns bad and later finds redemption. Also it's about Palpatine wanting to live forever and how he survived Anakin was because he personally had Vader's helmet made and when he hit Vader with electricity in Ep. 6 his spirit passed into the helmet.

3:19 Rian Johnson messed with the story so they had to work a way to close the story. 4:14 from the prequels Palpatine lured Anakin to his side by saying he could teach him how to cheat death. He had almost 20years to perfect how to prevent himself from dying. 6:12 a fun fact 3PO says this festival happens every 42 years and that’s that exact time span from when Episode 4 was first released till the release of this one. 8:19 if you watch “The Mandalorian” you’ll see how they got the technology for jetpacks. 8:40 Finn was using Luke’s old saber that Rey now uses. 9:15 the audience in my theater each time I saw it broke out in laughter with the flashlight gag. 21:01 remember in Empire when Luke fights Vader on Dagobah but he’s really fighting himself. 21:45 you should check out the novel about this movie. Luke has been trying to tell her it’s time to be one with the force. The book has a lot of stuff on it. 27:16 this scene is funnier in the book. There’s more to it. 32:03 a true Han Solo move with that slight bow. 36:21 the problem with force healing is you’re giving your life force to the other person and at this point Palpatine drained them both of a lot of their life force so there’s only enough life force for one person. Remember he’s no longer Kylo. He’s Ben Solo. 37:26 that’s Wicket and his son played by Warwick Davis and his son. 39:25 I believe she was supposed to be Luke’s daughter at one point until Rian Johnson went a different way. They learned their lesson with the “Solo” movie when those directors started to do what Rian did they quickly replaced them.

I mean, I totally get it. I prefer to look at it this way though.....if you had the name Palpatine (or irl similarily, a name that starts with H and ends in R), would you want to take on that name to continue the jedi order, or would you want to take on a name that actually meant something good to people? She decided to throw away her 'real' name to instead continue the Skywalker legacy. Any adopted person will tell you that blood doesn't necessarily make a family.

@ well I guess you can look at it either way? I still say Disney didn’t give the OT characters the great goodbye that they deserved or we the fans had been waiting to see. Some of the fans waited over thirty years to see the on screen characters again, and they didn’t get what they waited for. I know a few of them personally. And just Rey taking the Skywalker name? I mean it could have worked if, she had been a likable and relatable character. It just doesn’t feel natural, like that was where the story was going? I don’t know? I like many others didn’t like the sequels.

If you're interesting in learning of a little bit more Ben story without having to get invested in a book or comic, there's some in a Ben and Han story in a video game. Sort of. Lucasfilm says it's non-canon, but at least in MY OWN headcanon it's unofficially Ben. Everyone else will say it's just some random kid, but that doesn't make any sense to me. It came out 6 months after The Force Awakens did. Maybe Lucasfilm agreed it wasn't good enough to be considered canon. Maybe while developing it they didn't want anything about the game to give hints to The Force Awakens story or wanted to make sure it didn't contradict anything in The Last Jedi. Maybe they started making it before The Force Awakens but didn't finish the game in time for promotion. I don't know. But the timing of when it was released just feels too convenient to me to be unrelated. The kid has no dialogue, although from Han's dialogue to me it feels like an awkward, emotionally distant Dad and his son who don't have much in common spending the weekend together. Han: "Don't get your hopes up, I'm not here to bring you home." In the game you play as a young padawan of Luke whom he dropped off on Tatooine to spend some time with and help Han. I think they had some plot in mind, but Carrie Fisher's passing made them change several things. They had to recycle some unused footage from the previous movie and adapt the story, I'm sure Leia is the one who was supposed to talk to Kylo, since Han was not a Jedi trained to become a force ghost, but after Carrie's passing they most probably asked Harrison Ford to do that part. Assuming they didn't had to erase the characters, she could have used the same trick as Luke in the cave to show up and talk to Kylo, I don't know other fans, but for me the idea that the only way to heal the other was through unaliving themselves seems a pure plot line with no logic. I wished the movie had ended with Kylo and Ren together visiting Luke's childhood home instead of Ray alone, and answering at the end "we are Ben and Rey Skywalker". That way the title of the movie would match the plot line, instead of making a movie that very well could have been called "the complete elimination of Skywalker's bloodline"

Thanks for the reaction Tara.🙏🏻 The Last Jedi is my absolute favourite of the Sequels, but I really like all three. I didn't mind Palp's return, I found it intriguing and suitable in a way. I also liked the character development in both Finn and Poe, and I don't understand why people don't see it. What I found annoying was practically throwing Rose out of the story-that was a lost opportunity imo. I would have loved this film if it didn't have one huge flaw: Ben's death. That still hurts do much!!! 😭

Most of us didn’t want Kylo/Ben to be killed off but I feel the sequels weren’t about him it was about Rey killing off Palpatine’s legacy. Palpatine knew a lot of Sith magic, Sith Alchemy, and Sith artifacts. He took a lot of the inspirations from his former Master, Palpatine knew a lot even from coming back from death. What people don’t grasped is that ALL three sequel movies were rushed so much was missed so much weak lines were said. If you want to know what Finn was trying to tell Rey watch one of the Disney Star Wars LEGO Specials, I forgot which because they made many of those 😂. I prefer you watch The Acolyte but the HATE of the show is so tremendous.

I have an odd love/hate relationship with this installment. Mostly the boss fight with crusty old Palpi at the end, but otherwise, it's a fun roller coaster. I do wish that Ben and Rey had defeated him together though, and maybe with the help of all the force ghosts (though it is implied that they live through Rey). Overall, it was a bit rushed, and there was a lack of explaining things (though there's always room for that in the future). This was supposed to be Leia's swan song, but Carrie's passing threw them for a loop. ......and Ben should have lived (or at the very least, not just been forgotten as soon as he faded away). 💖

tara rey and ben are both palpatines and skywalkers, in episode 3, chancellor palpatine told ani about the legend of darth plagueis , and that he could manipulate the midichlorians in people to create Life. and then his apprenctice killed him in his sleep, either palpatine was the apprentice and he created ani inside shmi skywalker making him ani's dad or jar jar was the apprentice and he killed plaguies and taught palpatine, they are both from naboo

@@thatnerdtara No, it's a misunderstanding from a comic that was put out. The author himself has since tried to clear it up, but people take it and run with it. Palpatine tried to manipulate Anakin while Shmi was pregnant and failed. Failed. The force itself, created Anakin. Ben and Rey are not related.

3:02 Leia's footage is comprised of footage that she had filmed for "Rise of Skywalker" before she died. And other footage was reworked from footage that was UNUSED from "The Last Jedi." NONE of her footage is recreated with CGI (Except for the background imagery) It is 100% Carrie Fisher.

Leia's not quite computer generated, augmented might be the right word? Altered. Change of clothing, change of lighting to match each scene plus stand ins for non dialogue scenes. Her performance and lines were from deleted scenes from The Force Awakens. Her face for sure was entirely her own. I would say maybe watch Skeleton Crew next, just because it was the most recent show, and is more near the point in the timeline you're currently in(Mando/Ahsoka series, sequel trilogy - although that's at least 15 years after Mando I think). Then Acolyte(pre Phantom Menace) and Bad Batch Seasons 2 and 3 - in whatever order of your preference since they are both so unrelated. There's also a case to be made for finishing Bad Batch first, since you started it first.

A lot of us felt like bringing back the emperor showed a lack of creativity from the writers. And also that it undid what Anakin did in Return of the Jedi when he killed the emperor... Not really a surprise the storm troopers having jet packs... It is not unprecedented... Clone troopers had them in "Clone Wars"... BTW... Rey was not initially going to be a Palpatine... She was originally going to be a KENOBI... Never heard a confirmation of her being clan Kryze... Bo Katan's niece... I think I would have liked that twist better...

Palpatine was always one of the options, just as Kenobi was. Before episode 9, I preferred the Kenobi route too. However, there are clues to her being a Palpatine even back in TFA.

I have such a complex relationship with this movie. I loved it on my first viewing, but the more I think about it and rewatch it, I get increasingly frustrated with it. Largely due to the fact that it has a lot of really intriguing elements that there isn't time to tap into. The fake out deaths and resurrections, along with the bizarre goofy Hux storyline also don't do well on rewatch. I think the sequel trilogy could have been a really great trilogy if there'd been better cohesion and a clear 3 part story drawn out before the cameras ever started rolling. I feel the same way about the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones. The building blocks for amazing storytelling were there - the execution just really fell short (far worse in GoT than RoS in my view).

What I don't like about this movie, besides ruining Anakin, is that it has too many elements from the original trilogy, it's a worse copy than the original. If they had copied the prequels it would surely be better. Disney surely copied the original trilogy, innocently believing the idea that fans hate the prequels, which is false.

As much as I do not take away people's opinions on movies (that'd be blatantly disrespectful), I can't help but say that one quote is the epitome of "we had no plan so we just threw Palpatine in there" in movie directing. The sequels probably would've been a little better if JJ Abrams directed the whole trilogy, but it's still a little bit of a pain to watch after watching the first 6 movies, the 2 spinoffs, and the shows. The humor carried the movie though, I will admit. 😂 The *WHAT?!* from both you and Poe at 17:27 were perfectly synced too. 😆 The bridge at 20:25 I don't think was the bridge where Luke and Vader fought, but the throne room at 20:36 was definitely where they fought. Anakin: The Chosen One who will end the Sith and restore balance to the Force. Rise of Skywalker: Somehow, Palpatine returned. If you're wondering where this idea came from, it's partially copied from Reddit (and I'm being serious) and partially a disastrous attempt at adapting a story from before the prequels were made. This completely destroys Anakin's role as the Chosen One and breaks canon. It also ruins his symbolic sacrifice for his son and his victory. Now, Rey: I'll ask a key question: Why does she want to fight Palpatine? What are her motivations, and where do they come from? I can't answer these questions beyond "because she's good." Even Daisy Ridley, the actress, gave the same answer. What they did to her character is outrageous. Rey became a flat copy of Luke, and now she's even replaced him. She stole Anakin's role in defeating Sidious. And she didn't earn the right to call herself a Skywalker. If anything, she’s closer to an Organa, but everyone just calls her Palpatine or Nobody and reject her. Her arc is just walking from point A to B with no development whatsoever. Even in the final scene, when Palpatine offers her power-when did Rey ever show she wanted power? How was that supposed to impact her character or us as the audience? I see her as the most mistreated character because she has no future, no hope; she's catastrophically written. And the best part? They’re not done. Rey is getting a trilogy where she'll become a mentor and rebuild the Jedi Order-completely taking over Luke's role. (Brilliant idea. I'm really curious how that will turn out, considering fans were calling for a boycott the moment it was announced.) Edit: Plus if we look at popularity - views of fan productions, Rey is less popular than characters who never appeared on screen such as Revan, Kreia or Valkorion. Isn't it even intriguing that a character with an entire trilogy is so unpopular? Finn’s role: Reeeeeey! This character had so much potential and ended up as an annoying sidekick running after the protagonist. And now, my favorite question: Palpatine died in Episode 6. His body exploded. Twice. Now we find out he survived by transferring his consciousness into a clone. How do we know he won't do it again? Even they don’t know, but they just created an immortal character, and if I were anyone in that universe, I’d just off myself out of sheer exhaustion from having to keep killing and hunting down more Palpatine jars.

It's really very sad just how crap this film is. The story thread is excessively convoluted for next to no reason. Removing the pointless misdirects the film is a good bit shorter and a bit more sane, but even then it has potholes in the logic that we are just supposed to ignore, for the unsatisfactory week ending that's just over the top because it's the 9th film and the end of the 1st trilogy made by Disney, going for the short term shock and awe rather than what is best for the long term of the ongoing franchise.

tara, at 16 min that scene with those 'parents' is a lie, rey saw that ship from that desert scene when she was little, Luke was using that ship with lando and ochi, in episode 7 , leia had r2, but luke needs r2 to fly his xwing, which was in the water on the island, rey had a doll of an xwing pilot and a snow speeder helmet , who do we know that was an xwing pilot and also flew on hoth? leia and luke must have flown that ship together. in return of the jedi, when han asks leia what is wrong, she is sad, and she can't tell han that she slept with her brother and that she cheated on han and that she is pregnant. incest is shamed upon in japanese culture and star wars is based off of japanese culture

Honestly, this whole Sequel idea was terrible. The plot was a cheap imitation of the Original Trilogy, the charecterisation was awful and the "Main Villain" was brought himself back from the grave, nullifying Anakin's sacrifice for nothing. Compared to Andor's copetent, cunning and lethal Galactic Empire, the First Order is a bunch of gaudy imitators posing as the succesors of an empire They never could compare to.

I get it I just think the story choices were horrible. This and Kelvin Timeline Star Trek made me not like JJ Abrams like I use to. Abrams likes to hit the memories more than just tell a new story. This movie was nice to have some nostalgia but did nothing for story progression. This is why I think the last movie was so much better. It was an end to what we were use to and the beginning of something new. Studying plot and fiction/fantasy writing you understand what Abrams did was rehash the old story and did nothing for going forward and giving new generations of potential fans a new storyline to start with.

“I have to watch the Acolyte.” NO!!! You do not have to or need to watch The Acolyte. It is the worst of Star Wars jam packed into one series. It has also been declared non canon. It is that bad. You will get zero views and your channel will fall into the abyss, never being able to recover. That show makes it look like the Jedi are also slightly evil and involved in a coverup. They even blame Luke for destroying the Death Star which killed millions of people. That’s how bad it is. They make it look like Luke did an evil thing by destroying the Death Star, killing millions.
