To answer your question about why Rebel Assault 2 features passwords despite having a save feature... On PC...I've got nothing... But on PS1, it was actually semi-normal for older releases to offer both saves and passwords, largely because the PS1 Memory Card was a new concept back then and the passwords were to accommodate people who didn't have one. Some games like Twisted Metal and Pandemonium didn't support Memory Cards at all. Wasn't until around 1997 when the usage of Memory Cards became more normalized and required.
@alex_-yz9to5 ай бұрын
And then the early days of rhe ps2 had a bunch of games that used save features... right at the point where the infamous ps2 memorycard shortage crisis happened

Problem with it is that while the male actor actually puts some effort into it, the female actress just sounds like a bored and tired Ru Murleen. Plus, you never see the character clearly, and have no way of even knowing unless you've got the voices turned on. And the second game takes away that option, making him officially male.

Okay, context: Rookie One’s squadron in Rebel Assault 1 is Blue Squadron. See, in Legends (aka, the pre-Disney EU), Blue Squadron was still around by the time of the Battle of Yavin. They were tasked with clearing the Death Star's surface of turrets and neutralizing its giant ion cannon so Red Squadron and Gold Squadron could begin the main phase of the assault. After that, they then launched an attempt to disable the superlaser with Green Squadron providing covering fire, though this was mainly a distraction meant to draw Imperial forces away from the exhaust port (the last mission where Rookie One blows up the Death Star instead of Luke is not canon to Legends, but everything else is). Also, that base on Hoth wasn’t Echo Base from the movies. That was Gamma Base. And no, I have no idea why the Rebels thought it was a good idea to go BACK to Hoth by Episode V after having previously being chased off during the events of Episode IV. I’m pretty sure that level was only there for fanservice.
@roguerifter97245 ай бұрын
They probably thought the Empire wouldn't look for them on a planet they had been chased off before. Its kind of brilliant except the Empire had enough probe droids to send them everywhere
@colonelmustang8545 ай бұрын
Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention: “Cadet Deadmeat” is actually Blue Leader, Merrick Simms. That’s why Ru Merleen (Blue Two) orders Blue Squadron to retreat if he’s shot down.

@@colonelmustang854 yeah, I had to cut a joke during editing because I thought your weenie squadmate Harris was the one who got shot down. I only noticed the name when I was cutting the footage together.
@colonelmustang8545 ай бұрын
@@Darklordjadow1Ah yes, Thurlow Harris, who after the Battle of Yavin returned to his homeworld Centares to spread word of the Rebellion’s victory (he thought that Han shot down Vader and that the war would soon be over), got himself captured by bounty hunters, was tortured until he revealed Luke’s name to Vader, who then flew into a rage at learning that Palpatine lied to him about his and Padmé’s child dying inside her and killed the bounty hunters to prevent the Emperor from learning that his son was now with the Rebel Alliance, and then Harris himself was killed by the one bounty hunter who evaded Vader’s purge, Mala Mala, who took that information to Palpatine anyway. In essence, he’s the whole reason that Episodes V and VI happen because his dumb ass thought the Rebels had already won.

You know I know Bubsy, Cyberpunk 2077 (which it got fixed let me tell you), Suicide Squad KTJL, and many many many MANY other games usually get hated these days and will be unabashably destroyed and thrashed these days (which I dont FOLLOW alot because Im trying to find a better positive outcome in 2024), and this review shockingly surprised me man. As hilarious as it sounds that PC developers would think PC users wouldn’t know how to use a mouse, there were a shocking amount of games made up into the Windows 95 era that stuck to joystick or keyboard only long after the mouse became a standard feature circa Windows 3.1. Doesn’t excuse the awful attempt to emulate joystick controls with a mouse, especially not for updating a Steam release, but it would make an interesting study case of that era of PC gaming.

I was never able to get very far in either game, without using the cheats that let you skip levels with the escape key or erase all your damage with the + key (on the numeric keypad). In RA1, at the Lucasarts logo, aim up and press the fire button, down and fire, left and fire, and right and fire. If you do it right, you'll hear a ringing phone and a voice singing, "♪Lucasarts♪". In RA2, go to the options menu and type "letgo" and the words "using the force" will appear; then type "isnotry" and the words "Yoda power mode activated" will appear.

I suck at flying/space shooter games for the most part but, anything Star Wars had such a grip on my baby brain's balls that if you put Star Wars on something, I probably wanted it. I even liked Masters of Teras Kasi. And yes, it was truly something LABORIOUS to love. But yeah if I had known about these games, I would have been bugging my mom to get it even if there weren't any lightsabers or ground missions that I am more comfortable with. To solidify that I suck at flying/shooting games, the Rebel Strike demo I had on Gamecube (also featuring a fully playable old Death Star run Atari game that was way better than Xevious being a bonus on SF:A)? Yeah those transports never made it off Hoth if my gameplay were to be canon. Sorry bros; I'm dead meat when pulling a U-turn in midair is much less graceful than just whipping around and shooting/swording the guy responsible for turning my screen red. I mean, I know I'm not the only one, but the dogfighting sim type games like Ace Combat have ZERO (heh) appeal to me because legit all it takes to ruin your otherwise godlike run, is some random grunt rear-ending you with several hundred peashooter bolts from behind while you're haemorrhaging armor, or, in sci-fi environments, hoping they don't kill your shields entirely in one burst. Not to mention the limited FOV that of course is discourteous to the idea of being able to see where you're being attacked for sure if it's not from directly the front. Yes I know some mini radar things detect bogeys, so gitgud isn't the issue; it's more that the computer knows to play dirty as you SHOULD, in a dogfight and, honestly to me personally that leads to asymmetrical gameplay on a coinflip of you being fortunate enough to have someone in sights of your guns, while not also being in sight of other guns all the like. "FIGHT ME PROPER, YE COWARD", is what my shite at flying shooter segments mindset says because, did I mention I suck at flying shooters, mostly?
