Yesss! This is one of those pieces of Star Wars content that I was tentative about at first, but I fell in love with it so hard as time went on. Part of the history of this show with the SW fanbase has to do with when it was released. It was announced shortly after Disney acquired Star Wars and cancelled The Clone Wars, which, at the time, had seen only five seasons. The end of Season 5 saw Ahsoka’s big decision, which raised all kinds of questions about how the show would end. Then, the unreleased episodes were released as a sixth season in 2014, but it wasn’t a real conclusion for the show until it wrapped up with the seventh and final season in 2020. So Rebels had to do a lot to win fans over in the wake of all that when it first aired in 2014. The more simplistic animation style, while inspired by the original trilogy concept art of Ralph McQuarrie, was jarring at first after seeing the more intricately detailed art style that TCW had evolved into. And the TV-Y7 rating of Disney XD (compared to the TV-PG rating on Cartoon Network, where TCW aired) was also concerning. Would Disney water down SW animation? Opinions on this series are still somewhat varied, but personally, I believe it captures what made the original trilogy so special back when it was released. This feels like a love letter to vintage George Lucas Star Wars, with reluctant heroes feeling the call to adventure, a constant sense of discovery, and the Force as a mysterious unknown. Oh, and cranky droids. 😉 I may have issues with episodes here and there, but I unapologetically love Rebels. It’s such a wonderful ride, and I can’t wait to see how you react to where it goes. 🙂 Enjoy, Jess.

I will say as somebody who started Rebels from the outset I didn't have that baggage as at the time that it started airing I had only seen the Clone Wars movie which I thought was okay not fantastic but not terrible. From hearing James reprise his role as Vader within the first two minutes of this episode and when they run the 22 pick up I was immediately hooked. I've heard people ever since the initial run of the show comment about how season one isn't as good but I respectfully disagree. Given I don't think that Rebels would have become what it did if not for this Foundation. All that being said the end of the season 1 finale and the beginning of the season 2 premiere I binged all of Clone Wars and while I do say that Clone Wars was monumental I have a special place in my heart for a Rebels. And pretty much every friend that I have who has seen the series including the one that I introduced It to unabashedly love this series

There’s an in joke with the crew trying to pass Zeb off as a Wookiee because his species was a concept design Ralph McQuarrie drew that eventually became Chewbacca.

This is one of the best parts of the Star Wars universe. The crew is absolutely fantastic and there is definitely no weak link. They all have a purpose and their personalities go together so well. Plus it has Chopper and I'd watch a show just about him because he's that awesome.

I was sooo salty that they cancelled TCW and I had a huge anti-stance when Rebels was release, but I learned to love it pretty quickly... I really thought that we´d see all Jedi except Obi-Wan and Yoda die on Rebels - because there were no other Jedi in the OT xD ... AND I WANTED THEM ALIVE SOOOO BADLY

I once read that when The Clone Wars began there were 10,000 Jedi in the Star Wars Universe, but after Order 66 happened only about 300 Jedi survived.

You're going to love this show, whether you post reactions or not, I think this will become a favorite for you. Now for some things that will help you enjoy it more: 1. Chopper (the droid) is awesome. It will help to understand him when you realize that he cusses like a sailor. 2. These guys are the family of the series and the show stays centered on them. There is no jumping all around like in Clone Wars 3. You will see a lot of cameos that will make you scream. Don't worry about us, just have fun like we do :)

The "little box" with the message from Obi-Wan is called a holocron. Holocrons are basically data storage devices that can only be used by Force-sensitive people. On a side note, the message is the transmission that he sent out in "Revenge of the Sith," when he and Yoda went back to the Temple after Order 66; viewers hadn't actually seen the actual content of it until now.

Trust me- it starts a little on the lighthearted and "kiddy" side buy OH BOY does it ramp up into some of the very best SW content- ideas that have never been explored before. You watched Kenobi - the guy at the end of the episode on the hologram is the Grand Inquisitor (the one Reva ran through but survived).

I remember first seeing the pilot in 2014 and being confused and thinking I would never like it (because at the time, so many Clone Wars fans were still salty from Disney buying SW, thus cancelling Clone Wars off Cartoon Network). Didn’t take long for me to get hooked. Little did I know I would love the characters, stories, arcs, themes, and overall Star Wars lore development just as much as Clone Wars. Glad you are enjoying the show and its main characters already. In case you don't know, there are some shorts for each of the characters set a few days before the events of the pilot. Nothing important happens there, but it is fun. Plus, the events of Sabine's short get referenced in the Season 1 finale's opining scene.

The ship, aka the Ghost, and Zev, the Lasat, were based on original Ralph McQuarrie designs. It was easier to make a fur suit (aka Chewy) rather than a Lasat. The planet Lothal appears to be Ralph McQuarrie inspired as well. Chopper is another droid, like R2, that appears to have a wide variety of profanity is his vocabulary.

Fun fact #1: Sabine uses the same type of nanobombs in her spraypaint that were used by Barriss and Letta Turmond to bomb the Jedi Temple in the TCW episode"Sabotage". #2 Chopper's nickname is a pun on his serialcode C1-10P, since "1-1" looks like an "H" and "0" can be read as "oh", so the code itself reads "Chop".

Yay! Rebels. You won't be disappointed. Especially from season 2 on. And, if you enjoyed the original trilogy, this show feels more like it than any other Star Wars show. YESSSSS!! Welcome to the start of my favourite animated SW show. Some people aren't too hot on this show as the early episodes in particular are very formulaic. And while I do agree with that to an extent, I think that the chemistry between every member of the group is what I enjoy the most about the show. And it's there from the very first interaction. I cannot wait to see your reactions for the rest of this show as there is some absolute gold to come ❤

For me personally this is always the show I point to (together with Andor and Rogue One) when people say EVERYTHING got worse once Disney bought StarWars, because it is never that black and white. Here is what I think this show does best (and why I think it is some of the best StarWars content): 1. Characters: This has many great characters that follow they distinct personality and because of that interact in interesting ways (including the droids of course) AND many of the characters are completely new. For the most important characters it also has backstories and character development. What they did very well was in my opinion that for "filler episodes" they still often paired new characters together or gave characters more backstory or a bit of Character Development 😉 2. World Building: There is a lot of World-Building happening in the background of this show (this is definitely least in season 1 as they focus on introducing so the new characters). If you look closely this gives a lot of context for especially Rogue One and Andor (Rogue One was filmed while this show aired while Andor entirely after it was made). Also: The first season of Rebels plays in the same year as the first season of Andor and the second season Andor will span all the other seasons of Rebels. There is however also a lot of "world"-builing when it comes to the Force 3. Script: While not at the level of Andor and definitely more for children the script is in my opinion still excellent, especially because it has a lot of pay-offs, both in one episode and over multiple episodes (and even multiple seasons). I also think the dialog is simple but effective and often times with a good sense of fun (although the great English Voices definitely help with that) While the animation is definitely different and you can, especially in season 1, see the small budget they had it had grown on me till the final season. There decibels still are beautiful shots sometimes and I personally like the Face-Animations of Rebels best in StarWars Animation (more than the clonewars-style) because I can somehow see more of their emotions in them. So, long comment for your start of this (in my opinion) great StarWars Series 😉
