I always found Wedge to be the most underrated Star Wars character. Who was the only Rebel survivor in the battle against the first Death Star besides Luke, he was Luke's partner (in a separate speeder) in the Battle of Hoth, and helped take down the second Death Star with Lando. He deserved more credit and I was so glad there was a Rebels episode about him.

The Imperial Military has orders from the Emperor to crush rebellions and maintain order at any cost and by any means. True but the Rebels and even in the Clone Wars the Jedi faked surrendering to buy themselves time that in itself is a war crime so the Empire fighting fire (war crimes) with fire (war crimes) seems fair in a rather bloody way. I mean how can the Separtists and Empire know if the Jedi and Rebels are genuinely surrendering when you have people like Obi Wan, Anakin and even Kanon and Ezra faking surrenders. There are more but lets go with just 2 examples per era this time. Also in Rebels era they disguise themselves as Stormtroopers or Imperial Officers which is also a war crime in the Rebels part. In the end the ones who used the most war crimes or used war crimes more frequently won the conflict.

The thing that gets me about the Empire is that they spend so much time and resources training top gun TIE pilots, but the vehicles they fly are extremely fragile and minimalist. Of course, the Empire's aerial doctrine is based upon overwhelming numbers and 'offensive is the best defensive', which, certainly, creates fanatical and fearless pilots. It's very much like how the Japanese in the Second World War took their approach to their aerial doctrine. Creating highly trained and hyper-aggressive pilots is not a bad thing at all, and that's quite awe-inspiring when considering the amount of work dedicated to creating the perfect combatant. But the biggest weakness with being purely aggressive and numerically superior to your enemy is the lack of safety and true defense. In simple words, it's like going into combat with two swords, but you have no shield or armor - one or two hits and you're a goner. If the TIE pilots were flying a well-designed starfighter like the TIE Defender (which had heavier hitting cannons, energy shielding, a hyperdrive, and even a tractor beam), then the ludicrous amount of time and resources training pilots is absolutely worth it. But even with a better fighting machine, one thing I noticed with TIE pilots is that they follow orders from control, not relying on their instincts as pointed out by Sabine and Wedge. This is exactly what happened to the North Vietnamese Air Force during the Vietnam War, where pilots were strictly trained and disciplined to follow orders at all times; however, when famous US triple ace, Robin Olds, came along and tricked the NV Air Force into attacking his disguised F4 Phantoms (not the more vulnerable Thunderchiefs), the Vietnamese pilots were extremely confused and disoriented - they and ground control didn't know how react!
@lillith31594 жыл бұрын
Well, this academy was an elite one, i imagine that those pilots were trained to fly interceptors and other elite ships instead of regular tie fighters. Im sure that the regular fliying schools are way cheaper.
@dustinjones74584 жыл бұрын
The TIE fighter was designed to have a very good pilot, which given the Empires vast manpower resources, was something they had the luxury of attempting to train. It's the only way to make up for the fighters drawbacks. It's the old tactic of saving money on production by relying on training-meat is cheaper than metal and far more plentiful. Investing in the pilot is cheap compared to say, adding a shielding system. Because consequently, the loss of fighter and pilot was ultimately viewed as negligible-the price of failure, which in the Empire is always harsh.
@YEETMAN-dt9mb4 жыл бұрын
Also the tie defender was still in experimental development at this time.
@melissaharway45474 жыл бұрын
The ties are minmaxed dex builds. They are very maneuverable and require a good pilot to take advantage of that. Life support and hyperdrives are extra weight and can be worked around with suits and carriers. A good pilot doesn't need shields if their fighter is maneuverable and fast enough to not get hit and get behind the enemy.
@tavariskaiser67424 жыл бұрын
@@melissaharway4547 Maneuverability is excellent for evasion and aggression, which are excellent traits for the perfect interceptor. But maneuverability is useless when the enemy choose not to dance with you; it's much better to run away and put distance between you than participating in exhausting spins and turns. This is why historical airplanes, such as, the SE5 (WWI), F6F Hellcat (WWII), and Mirage III (Cold War) inflicted so many casualties among its vastly more maneuverable and agile counterparts. The SE5 can leave the Germans in the dust; the Hellcat can outlast and outdive the Zero; and the Mirage III can outclimb the MIG-15 and 17, and wage an even fight with the MIG-21.

Ghost ship was docked in this destroyed ship. If they do follow the orders they would destroy both of them and they would survive. Rebels use tactics like that a lot. Like they are telling that are defenseless or that they surrender and after a while they attack. Yet people still think that rebels are pure.

Still better than the Empire. They are a REBELLION. They don’t have the resources to attack the Empire head on. They have to use Hit and Run attacks. Mon Motha actually tried the diplomatic route at first to dial back the Empire Dickson moves, to no avail.

@@Gothic7876 Still rebels talk about yourself that they are pure and good while in reality they fight like terrorists. They use tactics that are war crimes. And what do Republic authority do to people that are using those tactics? They gave them medals...
@Gothic78765 жыл бұрын
For bringing down a tyrannical, genocidal regime. And claiming that they use tactics that are war crimes, well it’s a different setting so their laws of war will probably be different. And secondly the Empire will ignore its own protocol just cause. They don’t need a reason they will just do it.

Who remembers the PC game called Star Wars Tie Fighter?
@IsaiahRichards6924 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry, but Skerris is absolutely right! The Rebels are only alive right now due to incompetence on the Imperial’s part. The New Republic will go on to be a failed experiment and it won’t hold a candle to the might of the Imperials! Skerris’ logic even rings true during his own death, when he forgets his own words, disobeys Thrawn, and ends up losing his own shields to friendly fire as a result, making it easier for Hera to finish him off! As soldiers, these pilots must learn that killing civilians, committing genocide, and swearing allegiance to war criminals is a terrible thing, but a necessary evil when they proclaim to govern an entire galaxy!
@TheTreecritter1115 жыл бұрын
The Tie ace is right, when have we ever seen the rebels show mercy to imperial ties? The answer is never, a tie pilot is dead if he gets directly hit so mercy is a ridiculous concept. a "disabled" ship is just as likely to kill you as a fully functional one.
@RoulicisThe5 жыл бұрын
Besides, being captured by the Empire is far worse than death, knowing the kind of tortures they like to perform on prisonners. On this part, why would they surrender?
@Gothic78765 жыл бұрын
Considering TIEs are one of the least protected fighters ever. And showing Mercy to them is ridiculous, they NEVER show any mercy. The Rebellion didn’t just spring up, they had legitimate reasons, such as in Legends when Tarkin landed his ship on a landing pad. That was full of PEACEFUL protesters. He crushed 12,000 people in one callous act.
@irrelevant12425 жыл бұрын
It’s not about mercy it’s actually strategic to allow your enemy to surrender as in future it encourages such actions which means you expend less resources fighting will achieving a decisive victory as none will escape.

Is it just me or Wedge aged way too fast in 5 years from Rebels to New Hope?
@Demolition893364 жыл бұрын
This show kinda went in two directions with aging. Leia looks too old, not really believable for a 14 year old girl. Obi-Wan looks pretty good, isn't balding yet, and looks like a hybrid between ROTS and ANH. Luke looks way too young, like a 5-7 year old kid. Rex looks like he's aged 30 years (which is accurate, because clones age twice as fast). Ahsoka looks only a few years older than she did in TCW, but that's acceptable as Togrota age relatively slower. when compared to humans.

Just so I get this right, are Sabine and Wedge flying unmanned TIE fighters or is it all a simulation?

Simulation. "Just like the simulations!"

Simulation complete with sparks and fire to complete the sensation. If you are getting tired of burns and lost eyebrows, fly better.

Idc what anyone says, this means the Classic Battlefront 2 Empire Announcer is a Canon character lmfao
@arbiter6903 жыл бұрын
Those aren't simulators.......those are remote controlled fighters. The opening to this episode and the transport ship's pleas plus aside from breaking Imperial protocol and the Ghost is too coincidental for being a simulator.
