This is lovely! Just the stencilwork had me excited to see this piece, but the final product is more fantastic than even I expected. It's one thing I absolutely love about your work, is the mixture of grayscale and a splash of color. I'm interested to know what if anything goes into finding a color for a specific piece, because the ones you choose are perfect every time. It's funny... seeing Leia, seeing the word hope - it obviously clicks organically just as a Star Wars reference, but what I loved about this idea from the very beginning was it's parallel to Shepard Fairey, and the hope message his art held with Obama. It has such a genuinely profound resonance with me. Maybe it's the perfect storm - I'm a huge Star Wars fan, I adored Leia as a character and Carrie as a person, I'm a genuinely optimistic person (although my humor oft betrays me), and I'm American... currently dying inside a little every day living through the Trumpocalypse - but this speaks volumes to me, about what exactly hope means. Hope is having guiding lights in life, in people and things, that allow you to face the darkness. Hope is allowing those things to guide you as you walk through that darkness every day. Hope is knowing that you, in the most basic sense, have the ability to influence and change the world around you, no matter how terrible things become, and hope, ultimately - is knowing that there is a world of good outside of the things that make you fear. I think that was your intent... at least, that's what I think of, what I feel when I look at her face, when I look into the poised and stoic gaze you gave her. Or maybe that rant is just a bit much, haha. Ultimately, all of that to say, another win for you Mr. Quick, your talent and creativity never cease to impress me. :)
