Good on you for stopping to look around and enjoy the scenery. So many people complain about games being too short, when it basically turns out they were just speed-running through it and missed out on all the little details that make VR so satisfying.

And this was at easy level. I bought the expansion kit - can't wait to try it. As far as going back and replaying, I'm going to try it at a harder level. Should be interesting.

So glad I found your comment!! I’m 52 and was just introduced to VR when I bought them for my kids for Christmas. I tried it out and was blown away and now I can’t stop playing I had to purchase one of my own! My first game was Arizona Sunshine which was great but then I played Saints and Sinners which absolutely blew me away. I didn’t think it could get better than that but then I played a couple of survival games “Song in the Smoke” and “Green Hell” now those two games were incredible I couldn’t believe the graphics especially when you “ tripped” in Green Hell it was amazing…. The Vader series ... now that is short. For $30 you get three one hour episodes. Galaxy’s Edge gets you a bit more for less. The graphics are better. Plus this game support true room scale, not the stationary battles you are forced into. You walk through this world. In this game I have to duck behind a half wall or peek around the corner. Yes this game does feel like a platform for more content and yes it is at a premium. This game needs more content. But for what is there ... it is the most AAA looking title that runs natively on the Quest O/S. Also comparing this to Squadrons, which is a PCVR game, is an apples to oranges. Thank you for your great channel!

@seacoastlife4 жыл бұрын
@@rodmunch69 Perhaps I am spoiled by "flat" games, but most PC games last much longer. I am hoping VR games evolve into games with better story lines and content that lasts longer than 4 hours. Yes, that is short and yes the Vader games were short too, although they had better story lines. Like I said I am hopeful they will add content and spend more time creating it so the content will be better in updates. I do believe this game has potential, but I also feel they could have put more thought into the first release. As it is I was entertained, but it was not something I am going to rave about.
@rodmunch694 жыл бұрын
@@seacoastlife I'm mixed on length in VR, probably because 90% of VR games make me sick, so the idea of a 10 hour game in VR is literally painful. Still I love VR, been using it since the 90s, had all the Oculus units since the first dev kit and the progress over that time has been pretty incredible. The big issue with getting those huge AAA titles is just the install base. Outside of Halflife APEX there isn't anyone putting money into VR outside of Oculus - and thus the chicken and egg routine where people won't spend big money to make games, and people won't buy VR without big money games. So Oculus is hitting the middle ground - making high production games (by VR standards this is very high production) and keeping the pricing fairly low by cutting up the games. Anyways I wasn't criticizing your comment, I'm just really lost at people saying this is short compared to Vader, when all the Vader games combined is shorter than 3 hours. I guess if you replay those games you can get extra value, but for me personally I enjoyed them but never had any interest in replaying them or doing anything extra.

I have been to Galaxy's edge and at the very least, I can say that being able to "re-visit" Batuu, and just to be able to "be" back in the Star wars universe made this one of my favorite games to date! I obviously know there's some bias in my comment, but it doesn't make it any less true. Thank you for letting me share this with you, and may the Force be with you, always.

I honestly couldn't have said it better. It is a fun Star Wars game but... No smooth turning at this stage in VR I feel was a major let down. I get that with the quest you can just turn in real life and that's how I played it since I hate snap turning that much but even with my VR legs there were a couple of times turning physical turning would cause me to get a little off balance and wobble for a minute. Also the way when you grab something your hand will automatically switch to a weird angle was kind of weird. Picking up stuff just didn't feel as natural as it should have. All and all it was fun but I thing $25 was a little steep for what you get. The side tale though was pretty epic! Even though it was fairly short. A good start. The paid expansions make me nervous though with how much the base game already cost.
@rodmunch694 жыл бұрын
VR legs is not a real thing. If you get sick in VR, you're going to get sick in VR. I've used VR since the 90s and have had all the Oculus headsets since DK1, and they still will make me puke. Any game where you have movement, like he showed in the video, is going to make you sick if you're susceptible to it - there is no building up a tolerance, it's an inner ear inbalance that only the strongest of motion sickness pills will help with.

I agree with you dude, the game ended so abruptly and felt very anti climactic, it ended in the middle of an actual story, truthfully the creators of this game just make full on games that feel more like training mode. Would love to see a real structured game that is more challenging and has more of a storyline. Also the loading screen that shows the race pod made me think that at some point we would get to ride one or race one which would have been amazing.

That's why the standard "dark" episodes such as Rogue One, Empire and Revenge of the Sith were the majority of fans favorite films. If Disney would have learned this the Abrahms/Johnson films could have been so much better by perhaps exploring the grey side of the force. Now that's some grit!

So is it not coming to the Rift S? I was wondering why i couldn't see it in the store. Is this a piss take? The Oculus store is threadbare as it is and for them to cut off their biggest user base is insane! How can you have trust in a platform when platform holder can cut off their own users?

I personally found this to be more of a "game" than Vader Immortal, though limited I enjoyed the exploration quite a bit, has an inventory and currency system, the journal entries were fun to read and also on hard difficulty you have to be very strategic taking cover and such. It's short ish yeah but if you take your time to take it all in then I feel like this was very enjoyable, specially for Star Wars fans. I had good time.
@who29994 жыл бұрын
I pretty much agree with your review after playing through myself. Although I did find the blaster combat engaging once you threw in remotes and ramped the difficulty up to hard, I still feel like there was a lot that could have been built on here, like maybe adding some kind of deployable cover or turrets in the form of more droid types, or making the jetpack actually play like a jetpack so you could chart a course to where you wanted to move to and shoot targets while flying rather than simply teleporting. All in all I found the experience a little lacking in Star Wars flavor and amount of content in this initial package for the price point. That said it feels like a really solid platform to build on in future updates, how far they take those updates and the amount of content for cost in those updates will really determine if this becomes a VR must have or an overpriced cash grab, and right now the jury is out on that. I think what I'd really like to see is each expansion playing off a different combat class and a different aspect/areas of the Galaxy's edge attraction at disney world. This combat style and story line feels solid for featuring the droid workshop but we could maybe have the next one focus on Savi's junk shop (the lightsaber workshop at the attraction) and the antique shop, letting you take on a lightsaber/force user style of combat for the story campaign and then letting you go back and change your loadout or class select to replay the old areas with that new game model or play the new areas (which would have to be at least as big as the initial expansion to justify it) with the droid repair tech loadout. Then maybe have a third expansion where we introduce more of a smuggler style of gameplay were we focus on the hanger/ships and the marketplace. I feel like if we could deliver on three basic gameplay classes/styles and all the main points of interest for the black spire outpost we'd have a really solid game, especially if you could loop and interconnect all the combat areas of the game to make it play more like a metroidvania as you go rather than a hallway shooter. Of course if we got to that point I'd be begging for multiplayer co op which I'm certain is well beyond the design scope of this title. Still my main point is that it'll take more than just another few bar stories to make this feel like a complete experience.
@jenspilgrim2 жыл бұрын
I suppose that if it really worked as a proper jetpack, there would be problems building levels and restricting movement ... putting much more strain on creators to build every nook and cordner you migh look in.

I would like to see a Star Wars storm trooper training game, only an hour or 2 so perfect for vr, but could also be longer for a console/pc game, where you would be started as a young adault or teen who decides to enlist as a first order storm trooper. The first large portion of the game would be you in a training facility and train as a trooper by playing “mini game like activities” and create friendships which would later become your squad. Or maybe make it multiplayer where u and a friend would go through the training “mini games” and be fighting for a squad leader position based on ur performance. At the end of training you could even have an awesome vr storm trooper suit up where u put on every armor and clothing piece yourself ending finally with the helmet, then a short almond knighting ceremony where u can choose your soldier ID that would act as a gamer tag. Then the mid game would be fighting battlefront style with all the classic weapons and gadgets to secure or wipe out resistance forts/camps, then maybe a short section of space flight and battle where one player could do the shooting, and the other player do the piloting, or if playing single player the 1 player does all (the battles would be the bulk of the game). Then for the finally, get pinched in battle by Luke lea and Han, have your team get wiped out. And you escaped and flee back to the Death Star where you meet darth Vader and he punishes you for your failure which fills your character with rage and then suddenly you realize how the empire is terrible and you get flash backs of previous missions but with a different point of view and see all the homes, land, and families you have destroyed. This then makes you flee from the empire and join the rebels, and sets up for a great game sequel, the sequel could also be that after being punished by Vader, he discharges you for being a coward and you join bounty hunters because of your battle experience, which would also be a great game where you could freeze targets in carbonate and have to track them down and pay planet dwellers for info or use intimidation to get it. Or the sequel could be after punished by Vader, and being filled with rage continue your job as a storm trooper and do more epic things, missions or quests to impress and prove to Vader that you are no coward and deserve promotion. Or maybe an immortal twins game, or a game where you play as an alien on the planet of ur choice, and you run a bar and have to keep up with orders and encounter all the things that happen like fights, people coming for information, gambling, bounty hunters and all the other fun stuff we have seen happen in the Star Wars bar atmosphere throughout the years, maybe even have missions where you collect items to make ur food and drinks, but I’m getting off track. So yea I have a lot of ideas for games like that and all my sequels/other games too, I’m full of ideas and creative things so Star Wars hit me up, I’d love to do this with y’all, or even write them as comics, books, or movies/shows, so if someone from Lucas film, Star Wars, or even Disney and Marvel sees this, please reply and let’s start talking, or people reading tag those people lol, anyways just hit me up, got a lot to share. (P.S. please don’t rip off my comment here and not give me credit, that would make me sad) thanks for reading y’all, and may the force be with you!

I loved every minute of it. Squadrons and this on the same year is been great for any SW fan. Regarding the abrupt ending, keep in mind this is only the first part of the game, the next part will come out this year. I think it's totally worth it. It took me 4 hours to finish the story and I spent some time at the cantina too after that doing some of the challenges. Vader Immortal was way more expensive than this (I loved it too).
