That is pretty much the reaction the most of the fandom had about the relationship between Obi and Satine... It is so powerful to hear a Jedi so committed as Obi-Wan say: "Had you said the word, I would've LEFT the Jedi order"

I just love how people go from "oh they're cute, they have a history together" or "just bang already lol" to absolute shock when Obi-Wan, the quintessential Jedi we all know and love, said "I would have left the Jedi Order" lmao it never gets old.

This is Season 2's best story arc along with Geonosis. It introduces so many brilliant concepts and characters that feature heavily in the future of the Clone Wars and shows beyond. It embodies all the best elements of Star Wars - a political thriller, intimidating enemies, nightmare fuel, spectacular lore and of course, romance.

"Who will brand yourself a cold blooded killer?" Then...Anakin stabs the senator in the back. If you listen closely, at that moment, you can hear the Imperial March playing distantly. Did Anakin have to kill the senator, probably, but it also heralds the fact how easy it is for him to kill those he sees as his enemies. Vader was not simply born in one incident, he took shape slowly, he was there when Anakin tortured Poggle the Lesser, and he rears up again here; with each sin that Anakin Skywalker committed, the darkness within grows stronger; his own personal road to hell.

God I have been *waiting* for this one. * So, obviously you noticed the Darksaber, but Deathwatch itself shows up in the Mandalorian - they're the Mandalorians that save Din in the flashback in the Season 1 Finale, rather obviously because they're the only Mandalorians taking part in the war. That's part of why the Mandalorians are so fascinating to me, personally - they bring moral nuance into a pretty black-and-white galaxy, to the point that Din's childhood heroes are here regarded as terrorists. * Though there are also small things rewatching this arc in light of The Mandalorian brings to the front - the fact Almec and Satine reject Jango Fett as a Mandalorian, for one, whilst the more fundamental warrior caste accept him. Apparently the idea to make all the 'Pure' Mandalorians vaguely Scandinavian was a George Lucas suggestion, but combine that with the warrior caste being more diverse as seen in The Mandalorian and there are certainly... unfortunate implications, is all I'm saying. * Anakin reacting to Obitine gives me LIFE, let me tell you. My favourite bit is when he complains about missing dinner when Rex calls him down to the cargo hold - ordinarily he'd be jumping at the bit to hang out with the Clones and R2, but he's so fascinated by whatever the fuck Obi-Wan and Satine have going on that he's willing subjecting himself to politics. * This is my favourite of the 'Anakin does morally questionable thing, queue Imperial March' motif in Clone Wars, but can we also talk about how Obi-Wan was 100% willing to kill Merrick, and it was only the idea of what Satine would think of him that stopped him. Like, that's kinda a supporting argument for why Jedi shouldn't really have attachments, is all I'm saying. * That being said, *clearly* the real way out of it would be Obi chopping off Merrick's arm. Clone Wars is perfect Star Wars in all but a few ways, but one of them is the tragic lack of de-limbification. Really glad you enjoyed this one, you are in for a treat.

More important than the Mandalorian backstory we got in these episodes is that this is where Dave Filoni and John Favreau teamed up. As others pointed out, Favreau is the voice of the Deathwatch leader, Pre Vizla. In 2007, Filoni was working on Clone wars and Favreau was working on Iron man, both were at Lucasfilm facilities. They each showed each other their projects and Favreau offered to voice a character. Filoni made him Pre Vizla, and here we are over a decade later getting Mandalorian from these geniuses

I think it's kind of telling how both Anakin and Obi-Wan had the same choices as far as a love in their lives, but were Obi-Wan chose The Order over a possible love life shows what happens to Anakin who chose a love life what happens to a jedi who breaks there rules about having such relations.

Fun detail but Pre Vizsla in the 2nd episode when he appears as the hologram he's actually wearing Clone armour and helmet as they didn't have his Mandalorian armour or any Mandalorian armour created for the season so they had to rework the Clone armour and helmet to make it look as close to Mandalorian armour as they can covering most of it up in a Cloak and of course the hologram hiding a lot of the detail. If you really look at it you can tell right away that it isn't actual Mandalorian armour. The 2nd episode was created very early on in Season 2 which explains why they didn't have the models finished yet unlike the last episode.

If Pre had fought an unarmed Obi-Wan it would have dishonored him in the eyes of the other members of Death Watch. The Mandalorians have lots of rules like that. It's kind of how Bo Kataan can't just take the Dark Saber when Djin offers it to her. She has to win it in battle or having it doesn't count. Also, if you liked Satine and Obi-Wan's relationship, wait until you find out about Satine's "nephew" Korkie.

The idea of honor is very important to Mandalorian culture. Wanting to beat Obi-Wan with his lightsaber is similar to only accepting someone as deserving the darksaber if they win it in combat. There is a very 'might makes right' element, which is very important to Deathwatch and also something Satine is struggling against as a pacifist leader of a culture formed honoring violence.

I’m generally not a fan of the early Mandalorian episodes of the Clone Wars because the pacifist faction ran counter to my preferred depiction of the culture. Still in retrospect these early episodes did set the stage for some of the best moments of the series later on and with Jon Favreau’s working with Dave Filoni here it paved the way to his work on The Mandalorian. So to just give you a thumbnail of Mandalorian History up to this point. The Mandalorian culture essentially made them somewhat mercenary. They conflicted with the Jedi several times (we aren't sure how much of legends is good for cannon yet so I'm being vague) once they sided with the Sith Empire. So Mando and Jedi see each other as enemies. Satine's government is very opposite to what the Mandolorian culture has been and the Death Watch wants things to return to what they were before..

Now you know why Obi-Wan was so willing to pretend he was blind about Anakin and Padmé's relationship. Also, the Duchess is named after the female lead played by Nicole Kidman in "Moulan Rouge," which is a cool nod to the fact that Ewan McGregor both stars in "Moulan Rouge" opposite Kidman and plays live-action young Obi-Wan in Stars Wars.

Din Djarin is pretty great, but come on now, he's no Obi-Wan! Don't worry Mandalore features pretty heavily throughout the series, and that throne room in particular has some of the best moments in all Star Wars, so you'll have that to look forward to. The Satine and Obi-Wan scene where both admit their love for each other is cheesy and soap opera'ish, however realising how important to the saga Kenobi is, it does bring up interesting theories about what would happen, had he left the Order.

oh my - that was amazing 😁 "why are they not having a moment? 🥺" anna graves & james arnold taylor have amazing chemistry! she was a guest on his first clone wars talk - it's a great behind the scenes watch & gives us just a little bit more of that obi/satine sugar

Ever since I saw this arc, I always wondered if Obi-Wan knew all along that Anakin and Padme were together, but he couldn't bring himself to say anything because he knew he'd be a hypocrite. Also, the spider droids reminded me of the Doctor Who Series 1 episode "The End of the World," especially when the Doctor sent the one droid to find its owner.

"Tell Padme I said hello" pretty much confirms it, he knew but kept his mouth shut out of loyalty.

I'm interested as to where in the timeline the Obi-Wan series will be set when it appears next year. Will we see more of Satine and if so, who might play her? I suspect not and that the series will be set after Revenge of the Sith, but you never know!

It’s set 10 years after revenge of the sith. But maybe we get flashbacks?

The whole Mandalore stuff really does wonders for Obi Wan's character.

He didn't need it as he is the best character in Star Wars, but this show (and something that happens in Rebels), only adds to his legend.

@@shugaroony That's why Obi need this. He is "too perfect". It interestin to see how this "perfect jedi" have his own doubts, also this is a point where Anakin can conect with his usually distant master

@@user-fp3in2kf3b For me Obi-Wan was never perfect and thats what one of his most redeemable qualities were. He failed Anakin (though that silly sausage wanted it all so was hard to tame so to speak) and showed humility throughout the movies. Then here we see him be tested by many things throughout the Clone Wars, and at times he fails in that too, but always shows grace and compassion even at the most dangerous times. And thats one of the reasons why he eventually becomes one of the greatest Jedi Masters the order ever had.

I feel like if Anakin was more like Obi-Wan, his love for padmé would be very similar to Obi-Wan and Satine. But because we get a Anakin that's closer to Qui-gon he feels love stronger and puts that first over there duty as a jedi knight and Duchess of Mandalor. Also please please please watch REBELS. You learn alot about what happens leading up to the mandalorian.
