Legends canon had only 20 Jedi (Knights or higher, Padawans leaving was actually more common) leave after the Ruusan reformations (basically for 2000 years). Dooku was one of the Lost 20. Anakin was the last, the “Lost 21st”.

Padawans would be the ones who'd be the most likely to essentially go on a "Walkabout" to figure out themselves. Letting them decide If they wish to come back afterward or stay where they've found themselves, would definitely be a Jedi thing.

Another great episode! For me, the moment Obi-Wan broke from the dogmatic Jedi (stoic and heroic, as he is) and revealed that he would've left the Order for Satine was just mind-blowing. It was such a powerful moment for me, as a massive Obi-Wan fan. It's still a defining moment!

And I love that Anakin doesn't even think twice about it lol. He was gonna blow up the ship, so he dies. Anakin isn't giving a fuck about any pacifistic ideological conflict lol. Also, rewatching these episodes has made me realize how much Clone Wars loves having people get impaled through the chest from behind. Merrick in this episode, the Trandoshan Captain got stabbed through the back by Grievous during the Goldie arc, and that Senate Commando Captain who helped free Gunray from captivity got impaled by Ventress through the back as well.

A particularly good example too, he had him completely by surprise; he could have easily just cut off his hand. Probably would have been better too, unless he cut directly through his spine, he could have clicked the button reflexively as he died. Cutting off his hand would have denied him that.

Also, how Anakin threw his lightsaber at the spider assassin droid, I’d be doing that move to my enemies all the time. And I loved when he just murdered that evil senator, he saved everyone. Also loved when Rex unloads into that droid’s head.

Unless you wanted the new movies to be just exact copies of old canon, which i'm sure would have made everyone happy. And it's not like Disney burned every previous Star Wars book and comic in a big pile outside their HQ. Besides, Lucas overwrote many legends stories with his own too, the backstory of Grievous for example. But for some reason it's not fashionable to blame him for everything anymore, like in the good old days. People seem to forget that the Clone Wars happened before Disney.

Beltims The difference is that when Lucas made additions to the story, they were additions NOT replacements. Between the release of Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace, none of the EU writers touched any time period prior to New Hope so they could let George do his thing. Likewise, between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones the EU started fleshing out the backstory for Obi-wan and Qui-gon but nothing after Phantom Menace. There was a book released just prior to AotC that was about Obi-wan and Anakin’s mission on Ansion that led right into Episode II. Point being that the Expanded Universe worked with Lucas to deepen the lore of the mythos and deepen our understanding of the original characters by seeing them in new situations and interacting with new people. We learned more about Luke through his struggle to create his own Jedi Academy when he himself had no idea how to even locate force-sensitive people or even a general idea of how he could teach them when he had little formal training himself. We saw Leia struggle to accept that Darth Vader was ever a good man and her conflict about having children who could (and eventually did) face the possibility of falling to the dark side. We saw how Obi-wan was almost passed over as an apprentice and how he struggled with what being a Jedi involved and how he came so close to giving up being a Jedi on Melidda/Daan and Qui-gon’s relationship with Tahl that ended in tragedy. We saw the friendships of Rogue Squadron and we saw the tragedy of Ulic Qel Droma and how Darth Bane destroyed the old form of the Sith to create the Rule of Two. We saw just what drove Jacen Solo to become Darth Caedus and we wept at the necessity of his own twin sister Jaina having to kill her own brother. All of this rich history and storytelling thrown away so that Disney can do a Saturday morning cartoon and some movies about “knock-off Jaina” fighting “knock-off Jacen” because “knock-off Palpatine/Tarkin” needs validation as a bigger baddie than the Emperor because “I can destroy 5 planets in a single shot”. And lest we forget the travesty of what they did to the Mandalorians. One of the deciding reasons why Dooku left the Order being Galidraan (overwritten). Jaster Mereel (overwritten). Any and all of the works of Karen Traviss (overwritten). As far as what they could have done for movies set after Return of the Jedi, they should have stopped with trying to continue the “Episodes” formula as the Star Wars Episodes were the Tragedy of Darth Vader. The only way they could have done justice to the Sequel Trilogy would have been to use The Godfather part II format where you see Jacen Solo’s story as the present with flashbacks of the past (set immediately following Endor) with his childhood with Jaina and Luke setting up and beginning the Jedi Academy. The past could be shown in a way that compliments or contrasts with the present. As Jacen falls you could see bittersweet reasons in the past that show (in addition to the “present plot”) how he came to this point. As Jaina struggles with whether she should or even can kill Jacen the past can show memories of them growing up or missions as Jedi fighting side by side. Otherwise, the traditional Star Wars episode format should have been dropped in favour of a new format. A live-action TV show could have focused on the change from Republic to Empire and the beginning of the Rebellion or they could have done a movie on the origins of the Jedi Order on Tython or they could have done a Game of Thrones-length series on the Yuuzhan Vong Wars and or the Joiner conflict. Perhaps a Thrawn movie or two or a series on the Imperial Remnant from the point of view of a Star Destroyer Captain who survived Endor and went on to eventually lead the Remnant when they come to a final armistice with the New Republic government. There are so many ways they could have gone without trampling all over everything. If only they cared enough to even try.

Also: regarding the Pre-Vizla change, he's actually wearing Clone Trooper armour beneath his poncho, hence the reason why he even has a poncho. Dave and George had no time or budget left to animate and design the Mando armor we see later, so they just covered all covered up.

Fun fact: the Pre Vizsla model in the hologram is just his helmet on a clone trooper’s body. Look closely and you can see it. This was done because the design team hadn’t settled on a Death Watch/Mandalorian armour design at the time, and needed to finish this episode, so they used clone armour as a placeholder for the hologram, and hoped the poncho and helmet would be distracting enough that it wouldn’t be obvious in a first viewing.

Probably straight out of light speed. I'm pretty certain, but ships of differing complexity can hold multiple co-ordinates for light speed jumps, executed in sequence to dodge around obstacles along the way. Pods like that are probably only pre set with one or two co-ordinates a short distance away, so they are launched from the ship, jump, and arrive like a light speed warhead.

I always imagined that it was a lack of conventional weight and expected wind resistance that made lightsabers so dangerous. As well as what allowed the Jedi to move them _so quickly_ when it comes to deflecting blaster bolts, etc. Despite whatever slight amount of weight *Eric* mentioned, I imagined this was why the Force was _required_ to utilize a lightsaber properly and _safely_ in combat. For _the non-jedi,_ it _would_ feel much like one had a flashlight in their hand, to a degree. As a result, one could quite easily lose control and inadvertently harm themselves. You would think lightsabers would be all over the place. So for me, this goes a long way towards explaining why we don't see many (if any) non-force wielders with a lightsaber. Lightsabers would require more than the standard type of training one would need with a sword. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This episode made me wonder what would have happened had Anakin told Obi-Wan about Padme. Honestly, I think he would have been empathetic. If the Clone Wars team ever decided to tackle 'what-ifs', I think a perfect one would be what happens if the War gets resolved without Anakin becoming Vader and where he and Obi-Wan have a heart-to-heart discussion about Padme/Satine.

@@Beltims AotC fails in every conceivable way a film could. It's fucking dreadful. Phantom Menace and ROTS are fine, decent even. But literally every frame of Attack of the Clones drips with utterly trite writing and plotting. Plotholes (in brief): 1. Quigon. That's from TPM, but it's still a glaring fucking plothole. 2. Padme being targeted by the Separatists. I know Nute Gunray made it a condition of his joining that Padme had to die, but she was doing the Separatists SO MANY FAVORS by opposing arming the republic. Padme's pacifism was entirely self-destructive the way it was portrayed. The fact that Dooku agreed to kill Padme should have immediately sent a warning light off in every other member of the alliance's head screaming, "THIS IS DUMB HE"S OBVIOUSLY PLAYING US". Even as a 12 year old, I was almost screaming at the screen when the JEDI COUNCIL sat around going "HMMMM, Dooku can't possibly be the bad guy here, that would make no sense". NO SHIT SHERLOCK. I mean, I know it was all a shellgame anyway, but the fact that no one else shows a modicum of common sense in these fucking movies is just jarring. 3. Padme is dumb as a brick. What part of "he's an admitted child-murderer" turns you on???? For someone we are expected to find admirable for her morals, her leadership, and her brains, Padme is fucking stupid here. There's no excuse. No fucking excuse. 4. Syfo-Dias. Literally everything there. Who the fuck? Why? How? The movie says nothing, and that means it's a bad movie. This is such an obvious con, a completely obvious TRAP that it destroys believably to see supposedly smart people fall for it. THAT's my problem with the PT. The only way it's idiot plot works is that EVERYONE in it has to act like an unbelievable moron. There are no genuine moments of "oh that was clever", only moments of "gee, that was convenient/stupid". Everything in AotC in particular requires tortured logic to excuse any of it. It's just blindingly awful. Sorry. Still mad.

Only 20 Masters ever voluntarily chose to leave the Order (Dooku included) and they were known as the Lost 20. There were countless Knight, Apprentices and Initiates who left the Order. Of those who disobeyed the Council to fight in the Mandalorian Wars, there were only Knights and Apprentices. If there were any Masters who followed Revan, their rank may have been revoked as a punitive measure before they officially left the Order.

Am I the only one who thought Tal Merrick was voiced by Steve Blum or Ben Diskin instead of Greg Proops? Tbh, I'm not really much of a "Whose Line" fan which is why I'm not acquainted with Greg Proops's work (aside from Nightmare Before Christmas which I did recognize his voice upon rewatching the film). On top of that, whenever I watch a Cartoon or anime that features Ben Diskin or Steve Blum there were times that some of the voices they use when voicing a devious, sly, villainous character sound close to Greg Proops hence the misconception when I mistook Merrick for Steve Blum or Ben Diskin.
