Well calling droids "crew members" is a bit weird anyways. The only difference between the automation of the ship and the droids is the ability of the droids to move freely after all.

I guess. But it´s still kinda automated. They don´t need live support, supplies, space to sleep or much room in general. For all intents and purposes there is no difference between droids and integrated machines.

Well you gotta think, they did rely highly on Droid crews, basically somewhat of a skeleton crew but instead with less than 1000 droids, they wanted to save costs by having less droids on the ship

Well they are probably self learning to an extent so maybe units that survived a few battles get promoted to apply their experience for commanding on a tactical level. After Ep. 1 they are not remote controlled anymore so they probably got an AI upgrade after that.
