I think the politics in modern Star Wars is hated because of its execution, not because it’s political. Some people just don’t know how to articulate that so they just say there is too much politics.A lot great media has its politics on display. They just integrate it better into the story.

@nutyyyy2 жыл бұрын
Basically. Same with the prequels. A lot of the political aspects are just poorly handled and thus come across as comical. Whereas the politics of the original trilogy are very simple but handled well. There's nothing inherently wrong with tackling political issues in a sci-fi setting but you need to make it relevant and internally consistent within the logic of the actual setting, otherwise it just comes off as shitty allegory.
@escargoat85522 жыл бұрын
There's not that much to it. When these people say that they hate the politics in newer Star Wars, it's because Rey is a female lead with some amount of power. It's not because of its execution or because it's political, it's because something something woke. Rey isn't political. They didn't do anything with Finn. TLJ could be seen as a critique of fan culture but that's really about it. There's barely any politics in the newer trilogy, even when characters desperately need to sit down and discuss their principles (Rey and Kylo Ren in TLJ.)
@kikphlip10802 жыл бұрын
@@escargoat8552 aw, I didn't get to see the first draft where you used my name. I'm fine with female leads, I'm fine with real world politics in media. What I'm not ok with is when a huge company like Disney hackjobs it for nothing more than monetary gain. They did Daisy and John so damn dirty with the trilogy. Put the black man on the poster with a Lightsaber and then just relegate that character to non-cgi Jar Jar. Then on top of that, they only canonize his force sensitivity in an interview after the fact. All to trick people into thinking they're going to be represented. The same thing can be said about Rey, just a hollow idol to sell toys to little girls and to get different asses in the seats buying tickets. It's not representation, it's exploitation.

Not sure this is 100% correct but I think they went from blockade to full on invasion so the ships that were blockading were no longer in the same place when they returned to Naboo. Also, they were blockading the hyperspace lane, they could have tried to fly in a different direction but they wouldn’t have been able to go into hyperspace and would have been shot down. Their only option was to fly through the blockade and go into hyperspace. The movie does a terrible job explaining this.

Imo this is a terrible execution of a rather decent idea. If you just list the general plot points, this sounds like a well structured idea. The problem is the execution of the connecting threads. I mean, take the "Ship's hyperdrive is damaged, need to land in Tatooine for parts and fuel -> there they meet Anakin and his mom -> when the Jedi leave Tatooine to return to their original quest, they take Anakin with them but have to leave his mom" scene. Described like that, it sounds fine, no logical inconsistencies with the general structure. So it is really just how the details leading to A to B to C that are poorly written and developed. Let's try something else: Jedi Master notes the hyperdrive is damage and they can't make it to where they must go. Padawan checks the star maps and points a planet a bit off course, but within their current range and where they won't have to deal with the trade federation. "Qui-Gon: Tatooine, hmmm? *reaches out through the force* Interesting. I sense a subtle, yet powerful, disturbance of the force from there. It is as if it were intentionally being hidden. Obi-Wan: *also reaching through the force* Yes master, I too sense it now. Perhaps this is no mere coincidence, we would have never noticed this otherwise. What do you think, master? Qui-Gon: Well, we have little other option than to go there anyway, and as Jedi our first duty is not to politics, but to the will of the force. We go there and at least try to identify the source of this while using the guise of looking for parts and supplies to hide our true intentions. We can procure those things a bit slower than we otherwise would if necessary, I see no problem with a minor delay here if it means uncovering something more larger than politics. Otherwise, once we deliver the Queen to Croissant [not sorry], we will be free to return investigate further. Obi-Wan: The order will probably not be happy if we delay more than we must. Qui-Gon: I don't see the problem here, Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan: Ha, I know, I just like when hearing that. Setting course to Tatooine. Maybe the force be with us. (There, we now know they're intentionally doing things slower than their could, because their priorities are unquestionably different now). Then meeting Anakin, he is a Slave. Cool. Make it so he isn't just the slave of a single master with just a few slave, but of something larger. The Jedi wouldn't just kill them all if it came to that, and they're not there to end the larger operation they don't know how far and how deep they spread. So simply stealing from them (parts, supplies or slaves) would not be an option, the detour to deal with them (heck, even if they did want to do a Sith and kill them all just because) would get in the way of both their missions. So let's have the flying buggy guy just the taskmaster of Anakin's "lot". Now they have a reason to play along local mechanics, and also since they sense the force so strong in Anakin and his high midchlorian counts too I guess (but fuck michlorians imo), we can now connect plot A and B, they assume this boy might be related to the disturbance while clearly not being the source himself, so they agree to having him race "for the parts and supplies we need" because a high risk activity where the boy will definitely use the force intuitively willy nilly might just attract the attention of the real source of the disturbance, helping them to uncover it... and they get what they need for their now secondary (but still obligatory) objective too. And this also reinforces why they can't just take the mother with them, because that would be stealing a slave from the larger organization (the local taskmaster losing a slave in a gamble is his problem with the organization to deal with, but they taking another one by force is their problem to deal with, and we already stablished they why they won't do that). There, I fucking re-wrote it better.
