Once again, I have a Star Wars toy to restore...and once again, I return here. These are great days!

I've never even owned one of these and I could tell right away you have the 1980 Kenner Millennium Falcon from The Empire Strikes back line. This was a dream toy for me when I was a kid. My friend Thomas had one and he would let me play with it sometimes. My mom was a cheap skate so my toy collection was very limited. For some reason when they released it in this line (and the Return of the Jedi line as well) they made it more compact looking. Probably to save on production costs. The original Falcon toy from 1979 is much bigger.

Ordered my first Millennium Falcon. It will be somewhat of a project so what better video's to rewatch than Retroblasting's Millennium Falcon restoration part 1 to 5👍

I bought this with my paper boy & catalog delivery jobs. I played with it a LOT! I wish my Mom hadn’t given it to one of my cousins when I moved out. Sigh. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos on this.

Thank for making this video. It prompted me to dig my Kenner Star Wars toys out of the attic & to rescue some more from my brother.

Ha. I use to be fascinated by the empty space beyond the cardboard backing, trying to peek through the cracks and into the landing gear wells to see what was really in there.

I had the OTC Falcon back in 2004-05 when I was young, and while I've ended up getting rid of the original one I had, I have once again gotten the ship through buying parts and an incomplete hull of the ship. While it's not as worth and as old as the vintage Kenner one, it was one of the best ones I'd played with. As I type, she's sitting under my bed waiting to take off into another adventure.

RetroBlasting, I just discovered your channel a couple weeks ago, and really love what you guys do. Thank you for doing videos like this. I also recently found some of my old toys, including my Falcon, which I will be restoring before long. So thank you for doing these Falcon videos in particular. They will come in especially handy!

That was one of my favorite Star Wars sets! I don't even remember the Light Saber Training Ball on a string. I guess I lost it or never used it. I do remember the canopy hinge broke early on, and the canopy constantly fell off when "flying" the Falcon. I also had a metal "miniature" Falcon in the 80's that I kept on my bookshelf. I can't remember who made it, but I still have it stored in a box... somewhere.

My new BF! Can't wait to start restoring mine. It was a gift from mom and because of that I just can't part with it. Could use new decals. I also threw away/lost the training ball.

awesome video - it's funny, I too recall even as a three/four year old that parents had a huge problem with the size of the Falcon! meanwhile, my friends and I would have a phenomenal time playing with it! I never had this toy specifically, although I had plenty of Star Wars and Empire figures (curiously, very few Jedi toys) and none of us ever complained about the size of the Falcon! we thought the size was terrific - the bigger the better

I got my Falcon from a friend when he traded his up for an Empire one. Never had the ball thing. I did a crude cleaning a couple of years ago that just entailed dumping the whole thing in a sink full of slightly soapy water and using a toothbrush. Worked ok.

They made a whole bunch of metal ships, didn't they? I was obsessed with getting the Star Destroyer one when I was a kid, mainly because it came with a little white plastic rebel blockade runner ship that it could 'swallow' into it's closeable hull!

I have been planning to restore my Falcon. I still have the training ball...even the string. Though I hated the cardboard cutout and eventually threw it out. My restoration is planned to be more of an upgrade than rsstoration. I have upgraded and added sounds, wan to add led lights for cockpit and engines etc.

i never had the falcon,i used to pull out the seats of my landspeeder then it could seat four figures instead of two i also pretended that the windshield could extend over the whole cockpit so it could fly in space, can't wait for part 2.

Awesome video! Out of curiosity, what is your take on 3D printers & the future of vintage toys? In other words, how soon do you suppose we'll see people 3D printing our favorite vintage toys from the past & reselling them on eBay? And how will that devalue (if any) the collecting side of these toys?

it's funny because I only started noticing it now, I guess because I'm older. Anyways they were and still are great toys I really enjoyed playing with them when I was a kid. Had the AT-AT and lots of other Stars Wars toys but never had the Falcon.

I still have my original from 1980. I used to have my ships hanging in front of a window that i had covered with black poster board that i poked holes through to simulate a space background that i bought from Mott's 5 & 10/ 5 & Dime with my allowance and work money.

Michael and Melinda, do you have plans to make a restoration video for the ESB line's "Darth Vader Star Destroyer"? I have one that is in pretty rough shape, but before I attempt to restore it I would like to see how it's done by the experts - namely, Retroblasting. Thank you.

Hi, Mike. I FINALLY just got a beautiful, complete Falcon again after my childhood one was crushed in a move years ago. I'll be dealing with the motor later, but I have two questions I was wondering if you had an answer to, and it would be very appreciated: 1) What is the best way to remove the cockpit top? On the one I have, it seems pretty sealed in there and I'm just not sure how to get it off without snapping anything or causing a bend that might ruin the "hinge" effect it has when I get it back on. Question 2) The back two landing gear pieces are *very* tight and actually squeak when being pulled in an out - is there a way to help that? Some sort of equivalent of "oiling" the area to kill that tight squeaking? Thanks in advance. P.S. A third question, related to the Snowspeeder - are modern "C" batteries larger than the 80's "C" batteries? It wants me to jam them in there, but I'm terrified I'd snap the plastic in the battery housing, etc. Would "C" housings with AA's inside be a bit smaller for the fit?

i was just in a shop today and it had this MASSIVE HUGE-ASS millenium falcon. this thing was beyond belief. michael, do you know anything about these? it could easily fit 4 or 5 figures in the cockpit. it was hanging from the ceiling so i could not get a good look at it. looked to be about the 10 or more times the size of original MF toy...

I was looking for the jedi training ball on ebay and I couldn't tell the reproduction training balls from the real ones, how can you tell which ones are the vintage training balls?
@retroblasting9 жыл бұрын
sgf129 Real ones tend to have facets on the surface, like a gemstone. Fakes are usually perfectly round, though it's possible they've perfected the facets.

***** I thanks for the information, I have been looking for one to put in my falcon, when I got my falcon back in 83 and put it together I don't remember the ball and hook in the box, maybe just to excited about finally getting the falcon, but when I bought my y wing fighter years later it didn't come with the full bomb, just two halfs of the front and no rear missile part, thanks, love your channel.
