What I have to offer is some Trivia/Lore about FFXIV and old FF Instalments, and how this information related to the Shinryu Battle mechanics. First of all, Shinryu is a Primal. All Primals are of one Element or more (Shiva is Ice, Ifrit is Fire, Ramuh is Thunder, Bismarck is Wind and Water, etc). So, Shinryu is a Primal of... all Elements. These Attacks (Hellfire, Tidal Wave, Levin Bolt, etc.) were all done in Extreme versions of Ifrit, Leviathan, Ramuh, etc. Maybe in the Story Mode of those fights too. Basicaly, Shinryu is a combination of all Basic Elements and does signature moves of all the Primals of these Basic Elements. Now, Akh Morn, is a Wyrm attack. Bahamut does it in Coils, Nidhogg does it, Hraevelgr somewhat does it in Sor Khai, Shinryu does it, and Prime Midgardsorm does it in the Omega story. You must understand what these basic Primal moves and Akh Morn do as they are basic language for this game. They started training is in 2013 with these one by one, fight by fight. And now it is expected of new players to learn these mechanics and they throw them all at the same time to you LOL. Now, some fun facts about Shinryu. Shinryu is a Primal in XIV. In general, in FINAL FANTASY, outside of the Final Bosses of the some of the games, and some situations that the involved parties have no control over, there are 4 beings that can travel through Dimensions. (Travelling through Dimensions = tear a hole through the Rift, and traverse the Outer Void, to enter different Dimensions. Each Dimension is a FINAL FANTASY Instalment. The Void that you hear in XIV is not the one I am talking about. There is an Outer Void connecting the Instalments, only on the loosest stuff though.) So, these 4 beings are: 1) SHINRYU 2) OMEGA 3) GILGAMESH 4) SHANTOTTO I suspect the 5th one is going to be Y'shtola someday (more wishful thinking, but yeah). So, the first 3 appeared first in FFV. They travel to different FF Worlds, each for their own reasons. The 4th is a crazy lady. Lol. Just travels because. These are the same characters. So, for example, OMEGA in FFXIII, FFXV or FFV is the same OMEGA. He has travelled to other FF Worlds between his pursuit of Midgardsorm and saw and analysed these beings that he tests us with in OMEGA Raid Series. All the beings we fight are from Instalments were OMEGA actually visited. So, for example we didn't see Sephiroth or Cloud from FFVII because OMEGA never visited FFVII. Even Alpha was created by OMEGA because he met Chocobo (that looks like Alpha) in a FF Universe called Chocobo World. They travelled and had adventures together and that is why he created him in his virtual reality world in the Scapes. (Btw, don't confuse OMEGA with the occasional enemy in some FF game that has similarities to him, the Omega Weapon). So, just keep this in mind. Shinryu in XIV is implied to be a different being than all other instalments, as it is just a Primal. ALTHOUGH, I have a totally consistent with all Instalments headcannon that our Primal Shinryu is the ACTUAL Shinryu from all other Installments, and here we have his origin story. It would make so much sense why he thirsts for "Energy/Power" on all other Installments. He's a Primal from XIV and starves for Aether. Btw Shinryu was summoned by the wishes of everyone and he kinda took form as a mix of Prime Midgardsorm and Primal Bahamut. Where was I going with these? Nowhere. Just throwing stuff out there for entertainment lol.

If you're going back to old Ex's to do, I would strongly recommend doing Thordan and Nidhogg in HW. Both are amazing fights - Thordan especially is a lot like Shinryu in terms of difference to the normal mode. In general, the Ex's designed around an expansion final boss are made into spectacles and such. It's a hell of a good time. It's also probably one of the better Ex's to prep for Savage in terms of difficulty and mechanical complexity. So doing that would be good prep to start doing OS1-4.

As someone who has used controller since day 1 on a melee dps: yes, the buttons do make the combos feel super natural and yes, targeting is a tiny weakness, but you do get used to it and figure out your own work arounds to it. Loving your reactions and love for the content and can't wait for the next 2 xpacs!
@Nirual862 жыл бұрын
playing FFXIV on controller is perfectly doable since its designed that way. If you ever wonder why they keep removing abilities from most classes every expansion, its to keep the total number of actions you'll need to manage on your hotbars consistent. It's also why they've removed most abilities that require targeting an area (or reworked them to just target around the player or around their current target) over the years. The biggest challenge on controller is playing healers, especially in Alliance raids where you might need to toss some revives or heals to the other 16 players on top of your own party. Yet on the other hand, the only person in my FC that always plays on controller mains Astro and she's probably our best healer overall.

The chain mechanic for sure makes an appearance during the last boss of the vault , you may just not have noticed it cause the person you were chained to may have taken care of it plus the damage is negligible. EX trails/raids is very rewarding content and people at all skill levels can do them and are super good practice for savage, mechanics come back the more you see mechanics and can recognize them the bigger leg up you have in other fights. Some tips i can give to you guys for your future raiding endeavers is Mechanics > dps , you can clean up dps and get greedy once ur comfortable with mechanics, and secondly look into snapshotting if u havent already, the way mechanics happen is a bit odd in ff14 where you can run into mechanics while the animation is going off still and not take damage but the opposite is true as well where you can not be in an animation and still get hit, never trust your eyes, my rule of thumb is normally the damage goes out as soon as the cast bar finishes and kinda "takes a picture" of that instance or "snap shots" so if u were in a mechanic when that cast bar ended but u moved out before the animation went off.. ull still get hit. its complicated but once u understand it ull be a better raider for it.
@mohidwaseem79972 жыл бұрын
Firstly, the thumbnail game for this is ON POINT! You jumped into the deep end of extremes and came out powered up! Awesome video and and even more amazing stream. Now that you've seen an extreme I'll put in a few tips for the future. 1. A tank swap is signified when any ability from the boss put a "vulnerability" of somekind on the main tank (Terra Slash put a physical vuln if you look at the debuff of the main tank), usually indicating that the next attack will kill him and a tank swap is needed. 2. Akh Morn is a ability that all dragons, and dragon themed bosses, have. It is almost always a incredibly heavy series of high damage laser blasts (either a tank buster or group stack) which get incremented by 1 each cast. So if the first Akh Morn hits once, the second will hit twice and so on. 3. Unlike the extremes, i recommend saving savage for after MSQ and starting with the first savage of a tier and not jumping to like the 4th at first, the difficulty increases progressively (Skip ARR savages for now, those are a difficulty level above normal savages). They might take multiple days of progging.

1st thing: I both commend you and call you crazy to start with Shinryu Ex. The original story mode was so "hard" for regular players during the launch of Stormblood, that they had to nerf it, yes nerf it which had never been done before on a story mode fight. This lead to Yoshi-P having to come out and apologize to players and they also vowed to never make a story end boss that hard ever again. lol This EX though, was the hardest out of all the Ex trials on that expansion and up to that point in general. So much so, that not many people had the dog or it took them a very long time (some until ShB) to get it. Over all though, this fight was good and a lot of fun, at least to me. Congrats on the clear!
@ancientspark3752 жыл бұрын
So usually how they handle Extremes is that the final boss of the MSQ (i.e., the X.0 final bosses) tend to get the most transformative Extremes (I say tend to because it's not always the case). This is because those Extremes aren't actually out by the time the expansion releases, but usually come out on the X.1 patches (the lull time in raids because new Raid tiers come out on even patches, X.0, X.2, etc.). So these particular Extremes like Shinryu Extreme have more time put into them and also are designed to give the hardcore raiders something to do while the odd patches (X.1, X.3) otherwise release Alliance Raids as catchup material for the more casual audience. By comparison, the first two Extremes of an Expansion (for Stormblood, that'd be Susano and Lakshmi) release close to the Expansion's release date, both as testing grounds to make sure nothing is too wack for class balance, but to also give some preparatory gear for the first Savage wing release. So they're usually designed to be a bit simpler and less transformative, although still a good challenge. After that, it's supposed to be the X.3 trial boss in Extreme on the X.3 patch., but then the pattern kind of diverges depending on what they're releasing. And sometimes they turn unexpected content into Extremes as well. Some of trial series such as Warring Triad and Four Lords also get their Extremes in patterns, but usually on even patches (X.0, X.2, X.4, etc.), again to help with preparatory gear for the Savage content coming on that patch, while other parts of the trial series get saved for X.5 because X.5 is the end of the expansion and there's no more savage content coming out.
@ridleyroid90602 жыл бұрын
With ultimates filling the lul in odd patches, the extremes on .1 and .3 are more to fill the gap until the .11 and .31 ultimate relases. Or at least that was true in sb and half true in shb. In ew they did that for .11 but prayge we get an ulti on .31

I think some of the ones from ARR are a bit janky but I think the Heavensward ones and onward are all pretty great. All the Stormblood ones were pretty fun from what I can remember so might want to start from there. For savage raiding, I'd recommend doing Stormblood because ARR savage was really just a lot of experimentation by the dev team and Heavensward savage can get kind of rough and janky at times. I feel like Stormblood is where they really solidified the design of savage raids and made it more accessible.

It's just such a smooth intro to heard content. Congrats on beating this guy, excited to see your next adventures!

You guys picked one of the top tier EX trials to do and I am so glad you enjoyed it. It's an amazing fight and really is so much fun. The places I would suggest to go after this: Other EX trials - Tsukuyomi is good for what you're currently at, as well as the 4 lords EX versions when you eventually do them. If you want to go back and do some then Thordan and Nidhogg EX are must see content. Savage - Exdeath Savage and Kefka Savage are both incredible fights. I'm sure your community will have plenty of suggestions on how to do it so listen to them and I believe you'll enjoy them. Ultimate - After you do Thordan EX and Nidhogg EX you should just watch a video on Dragonsong's Reprise Ultimate. Just so that you can see what happens when they take these EX fights that you will have already known and done, and then break the dial entirely and make it as brutally hard as they can.

It is usually most efficient to have a spellcaster deal with the LB3 when you're on Shinryu's back to kill off the wings and head. They can overlap their template on all three targets at the same time. Also for what I've understood is that the devteam usually creates the fights at THIS level, and then pares it down for the story mode to make it easier.

I'm so glad you guys had fun with Shin ex, it's one of my favorite extreme fights in the game. I highly recommend going back and doing Warring Triad extreme. Each fight is challenging in its own way, Sephirot's yellow and blue aoe from normal actually does something, now. Lol. Sophia ex will test your math skills, and Zurvan ex will test your ability to match colors, recognize patterns, and bait invisible ground aoe's.

That was such a fun stream to watch and I'm glad y'all enjoyed it! Looking forward to whenever you guys step back into extremes or savages! (but shb sooooon!!) Tsukoyumi is one of my favorites, mechanically, but she is essentially the same as the story mode. I honestly cannot think of any other extreme that changes like this one does hmmm

17:17 - Languages can be in flux, but [SPOILER] from an early fight uses chains to make people stick together or suffer the consequences. Still "distance between 2 people" but used differently. It's pretty fun to try learn how each boss manipulates particular tells to their own advantage, adding flavour to each race's God rather than completely homogenizing them directly through play.

Honestly in terms of doing EXTREMES, I would recommend starting from the begining and work your way forward. They are still awesome fights, and you grow as a player as the complexity grows as you move from ARR to Heavensward to StormBlood(and eventually to Shadowbringers). Sure doing a few "out of order" is fine for the hype and excitement of doing some favourites. I'm just so excited for a "Wall of Extremes", cause boy howdy, each is so unique and FUN!

Yeah, one cool thing for me was watching Preach and his Crawlers start doing Extremes a couple months ago. Trial-like fights in general aren't exactly unknown in WoW - fights like Onyxia, or the bosses in Vault of Archaevon or Tol Barad come to mind - but they are something that modern WoW really seems to have stopped doing. And then stepping them up to an Extreme level? It's something that FF does so right, especially with the bigger, more transformative Extremes. Having one fight that is super hard, but that you can knock out in an easy raid night or two is something that's super satisfying, because even after you down an Extreme, it's so easy and so fun to come back to it again with a new group of friends or FC mates and do it again.

What a great video, like all you start with a serius boss fight. All the mechanics are really hard, but in ff is more like a puzzle. Have a great journey in ShB and try more extremes in the process, i want that Thordan ex XD

Welcome to the insanity of high level raiding! This is why I had to catch the vod of it but honestly, it was a joy. The Adrenaline of high level raiding is so GOOD. With the current content it gets even better because it's just hitting the same fight yes, but it's always like a combination of puzzle and reaction time and putting it together and how it feels when you get it just right. High end content asks you to know the game AND know your class. Cause if you don't know your class it shows.

Sorry ! I watched this release day but forgot to put my comment /tip in. So Controller tips! (I only play on controller even when I’m on Pc) : I switched my button map setup from grid to cross hotbar, this puts 16 blocks on one bar, if you hold right trigger on your controller, the 8 blocks on the right side are enabled so holding trigger I can press up down left or right for those blocks or triangle square circle or X for the other 4. Then you can hold left trigger you get access to the other side boxes with the same corresponding other button (up down square triangle etc). You can also enable it so if you tap right bumper it with switch to another set of 16 boxes and again hold trigger to select the one you want. You get like 8 different “pages” you can scroll through with the bumper. You can also enable it so when your weapon is put away/sheathed it goes through certain boxes, and when your weapon is out/drawn it can go through another set of pages… so like I have my melee attacks set to pages 1 and 2 and I have my teleports, minions mounts anc chocobo companion set to 7 and 8. So when I’m not in combat I can hit bumper and it will only go through bar 1 and 8 and I can hold bumper and then select certain pages if I want something from that page, and then when I’m in combat and hit bumper it will only scroll/rotate through page 1 and 2 back and forth for my combos. You can ALSO select an option so if you hold left trigger and then right trigger (so your holding both now) it will open another page you can select but isn’t in the trigger swiping (page 5 in my case) and you can get another page if you hold right then hold left (so opposite order) . So for instance I have my combos/moves only scrolling through 1 and 2 but I can hold left and right and the. Page 5 pops up which is where my limit break is (so I don’t accidentally click it when I don’t mean to) I also have my hot bars/cross bars set to hidden, and they will only appear when I hold the trigger. Clears up my screen (plus change the size of my bar to small) As for changing targets that is where Pc has the advantage with the mouse, but if your a healer let’s say, you just press down or up on the directional pad on the controller to scroll through my party members. Left or right to scroll through enemies. You can also select someone/something hold trigger snd press bumper to target the nearest enemy and scroll through enemies as well… this is just an easy way to target enemies compared to pressing just pressing X and hoping it targets the enemy…. Sorry lots of info, but that’s mostly the basics that made my life a million times easier with controller…. Still mess around and go through the menu customization options to see other things that are offered as well. Oh I think I also have it set up so if I’m moving forward I press bumper I think to auto run

In character config on the "filters" tab at the top you can setup the cycling to go through only enemies that are aggroed for left and right dpad (up and down will be party members). Can also setup different kinds of filtering you can hotswap to. Then in character config again on the left side tabs at "hotbar settings", you can select the top tab "cross" andat the bottom enable "Always display WXHB". That will show your other hotbars on the screen so you can keep track of cooldowns there. Enable "Position WXHB seperately from XHB" and you will be able to move the added bars independently of the main bar, resizing included. These are probably the most impactful settings you will get out of using a controller so I highly recommend them.

7:00 You summed it up there. It's less an MMORPG, more a traditional JRPG with unlockable Co-op challenges. And by focusing on that smaller dedicated group (MORPG if you will) there's so much more quality per everyone's input compared to quantity for the sake of saying "It's 100 people vs 1 Dragon!". Everyone feels important.

:clap clap: - time to enhance this harder livelier version of the side of ff eh? I think it's a really helpful addition if u can 'Get the Muscle memory down' - u know ur openers (really is just a methodical step by step to bring out the most you can ASAP), your rotations (so u have 2-3 less places to dart your eyes towards / or any number fewer of it helps!), have a nice and comfortable hotkey + hotbar + buffs debuffs placement that u're used to ..... it's all such a fun learning procedure, and then u have all these fights ready for u to step up towards!! Hnnnng cant wait for more streams :D

DPad + a is my preferred way for changing targets on controller. Up down goes through the party list and right left goes through the enemy list. Pressing a will lock on to a target If you press a will not going through the list it will lock onto a certain target depending on how your target settings are. I don’t know if anyone In your group told you but you can expand your cross hot bar twice to get another 32ish slots on one hotbar

Oh, I'm early for the first time! Can't wait to hear both of your views, I watched the stream (afterwards) and it was a good one LOL. FF14 is my first proper MMO, I was so stressed (LOL) doing the Extremes and Savages, but they are addictive. For Kyle, I play WHM, and healing in Extreme and Savage Content is SO fun. Try it! BRB with more thoughts after watching this video! Honestly, extreme and savage content are like a separate world within FF14. I'm in a Japan server, we learn fights before we go in, try to understand the Japanese Macro so I know what's my position in some of the phases etc. It is alot of teamwork. Extreme Susano is one of my fav! Savage raids are fun too! Glad you both enjoyed EX Shinyru so much, can't wait till you guys do the rest of the EX and Savage content!

FOR CONTROLLER TARGET SWAPPING! There’s a way to swap target by simulating the Tab key of keyboard and mouse. The basic way of doing this… when you are using actions you should be holding R2 or L2(RT/LT). While holding down one of those, tap L1 or R1(LB/RB). Tapping those buttons while holding down a trigger, you will swap targets as a left or right tab target. You can also adjust the settings so it omits certain targets under some conditions. You can restrict it to tab between only enemies while your weapon is drawn, for example. I don’t see many people doing this on controller but you can actually set the game up to swap hotbars when you draw or sheathe your weapons. So I have my weapon sheathed hotbar with initial attack keys as well as my mount and teleport/return. Then when I draw my weapon the hotbar swaps instantly to all my attack keybinds. It displays the menus as a bunch of check boxes for hotbars 1-8. You set sheathed to hotbar 1, and assign actions there, then set weapon drawn to hotbars 2-8, and your hotbar will switch automatically the moment your character draws their weapon. But you have to have actions bound to the hotbars in question first, otherwise it will appear to not work.

It’s nice that you got this experience and drive to switch up your settings and improve early on. There’s a decent amount of normal trials in Shadowbringers and beyond that have more going on in them than even older extremes, especially from ARR.

So, as a Mentor, I wind up in roulettes where I have to explain things to people. If I'm lucky, there's only one or two sprouts in an extreme trial. After HW, most things don't get randos looking for party through Duty Finder. I can very easily and concisely explain the mechanics for Ifrit, Titan, Garuda and Good King Moggle Mog XII (may the whiskers on his face ever grow long). It would be an absolute NIGHTMARE to try and explain Extreme mechanics if I had gotten Shinryu and I promise you that half my team would have bailed after a few pulls. This is mainly to echo the sentiments of your chat - You basically took a high end difficulty Extreme as your first outing. Congratulations! I would personally have chosen Ravana or Susanoo - both of whom I have actually gotten in Mentor Roulettes before. They are very fun extremes, but not half the challenge of what you just did. Extremes are actually pretty forgiving compared to Savage fights. The reason Exdeath is brought up as a Savage fight is because it is a good jumping on point. Not the most difficult, but definitely a good taste of things to come. I have done half of the current tier of Savage fights with a Static, and though there are Prog groups and such that *can* clear from Party Finder now, it definitely wasn't always that way. People are better geared now for example. Savage fights have far less tolerance of dying, often more personal responsibility toward mechanics... and you will start seeing people using Markers on them. You spend time on the ground, you will not make the DPS check. Someone dies, that means a mechanic may fall on someone who shouldn't have it. It is definitely an adrenaline rush and I am very proud to have been involved in current content like that. ^-^ It's also recontextualized a lot of the fights I'd done before. Going back into older fights and EX battles I'm like "Oh! I know that marker!" and I find it easier to place myself within the dance. Things I used to have trouble with no longer bother me. I am still far from an optimal player, but if *I* can do it, others can too. You just have to be able to persevere and be able to learn and adjust.
@vdinh1432 жыл бұрын
To give my opinion on your question about Shinryu EX's standing: yes it was very different and yes it can be considered more difficult than some savage fights. Most bosses have the same routine: watch cast bar, watch ground aoe, dodge, repeat. Twintania from Binding Coil was the first boss that you had to learn to use Focus Target as a feature, and Shinryu was the first boss that you had to learn to use Enemy List as a feature. That and the breaking platform mechanics were very new at the time.

When people say it's different i think they are talking about new phases exclusive to extreme and how the fight flows. Most of extremes are usually a harder version of the normal mode, with adjustments and changes. But Shinryu on the other hand starts the fight in the second part of the normal mode, and then adds more, all while keeping it narativelly consistent with Zenos. Also really big epic dragon helps. About difficulty, I would say Shinryu is probably the hardest of stormblood, or at least one of the harder ones. It's also harder that most other extremes overall, but I would say there are some other ones that are up to the level or even harder than this one. What I don't know is who it fairs now. Because even if you min ilvl, job kits are different, and balance is more focused on level 90, so I don't know how damage dealt and recieved is now compared to release. Another thing about fights in this game is the puzzle component. This is more true in savage than it is usually on extreme, but finding out how to resolve what is happening and what is the boss doing exactly goes a long way to clear a fight, and in synced content is usually all that matters, as damage dealt is higher than originally intended.
@InvictusRed19112 жыл бұрын
Part of FFXIV is "iterative knowledge" that is picked up from other fights. Stack markers, aoe markers, using the enemy list and cast bars. For jumping in to THE Extreme fight of the expansion after skipping the Four Lords and the other Primals.. y'all did ok lol Especially because you haven't done and ARR or HW Savage fights. There's a lot of content you can cover, and I'm excited 🤗

Pool of Tribute and Emanation are easier to learn. There are some tricky mechanics but it doesnt take that long to clear. Real reward for doing those ex fights is experience. It makes you way better player. Content in ShB and later is getting progressively harder as its expected from player having better understanding of the game. Still easy to be beaten by casuals, but way more intensive compared to previous expansion dungeons or trials.

Emanation is REALLY good for learning to watch the boss and what they're actually doing. Shinryu doesn't really have a ton of clear visual tells. But does teach you to pay attention to castbars. I HIGHLY recommend Emmenation.
