decided today that I would be that guy and point out a few rules mistakes, just so that in future games they can be performed correctly. Archmage Ascension has an "if" clause, and any cards with "if" clause only goes on the stack if the condition is met at the time it would trigger, and checks again upon resolution. Archmage Ascension + fevered visions does not give counters. When multiple triggers from different players are put onto the stack at the same time, all of the active players triggers go on the stack first, then proceeding in clockwise order. In the case where a player has multiple triggers the controller of the triggers decides the order. Now from what I noticed it didn't seem that it was ever done incorrectly but it seems like people felt they could stack all the triggers in any order they choose. Lastly although it never came up it was mentioned many times, desertion will steal someone's general, spelljack will not. The difference is that spelljack first puts it into the exile, where as desertion it never goes to the graveyard or exile and is instead put directly into play. All these being said I love the videos, love the great content and please keep them coming.

For the next time Desertion does actually steal a commander. The commander replacement effect occurs if the commander is being sent to the graveyard, exile, hand or library, but Desertion doesn't send the card to any of those zones, it just puts it into play under your control. 614.15. Some replacement effects are not continuous effects. Rather, they are an effect of a resolving spell or ability that replace part or all of that spell or ability's own effect(s). Such effects are called self-replacement effects. When applying replacement effects to an event, self-replacement effects are applied before other replacement effects.

at around 59:00 jon picks up 4 of his zombies that are in play and then uses those 4 to create zombies he got from milling... SO MANY missed mills, which would have led to more zombies and more mills. honestly i feel like jon almost had enough zombies to mill all 3 others out just in response to the decree. he had a really strong combo engine up

It would have made for a very short and not as entertaining episode, plus considering how they accrue points he'd have taken a penalty for killing them all at the same time. Technically he can of course kill mill two of the others then mill the last one during his upkeep after passing turn, but that's also something they avoid doing. I think Justin killed everyone "at once" when he milled himself combo-ing off with Mind Over Matter and Kydele, and Jon went infinite with Dralnu too a season or two ago, and killed people over 2 turns to avoid the point penalty. They avoid doing it when the game's only been on for 20-30 minutes though.

so you cited the correct rule and some how you still don't understand how it works. do you understand how the stack works? it's first, in last out. the trigger goes on the stack last aka the skullclamp draw 2 trigger goes on the stack after the burnished hart land search activated ability. which then means it resolves draw then lands. yavimaya elder is lands then draw because the activated ability is to draw cards, and the triggered ability is to search for lands.

The abilities actually trigger at the same time so the controller gets to stack them however they like so that they resolved in the decided order.

they do not happen at the same time. triggered abilities that are caused by paying the cost of a spell or activated ability do not trigger until the spell is done the casting or activating process, because that is when you get priority again and state base actions are checked. so burnished harts ability is activated putting the search on the stack, and then the skullclamp draw is checked and triggers

What Stephen did with archmage ascension (edit: at about 39:30) doesn't actually work, but that a weird rule interaction: the trigger has an "if" clause, that means it doesn't trigger at all if the condition is not true at the time it would trigger, in this case Stephen did not draw two or more cards, so the ascension would not get a counter. Minor detail, but I think it's important to understand how this works.

An idea for a theme , you find a way to assign everyone 3 or however many years that magic has been around and they can only use cards that were printed in those years. Say you get 2003, 2006, and 2011 you can only use cards printed in those years.

Funny thing about Fevered Visions and Archmage Ascension. They don't work together. Ain't Intervening Ifs a stinkah? Archmage Ascension sees it's opportunity to trigger, notices that there was only the one card drawn, and shuts itself up right quick. Oh also Stephen couldn't stack those triggers, but that doesn't really matter seeing as he stacked it right anyway(giving him the trigger because we're moving on and it's casual.).

So seeing as you guys play alot of commander and Desertion is a good card I want to clarify something, jsut so you don't disregard putting Dessertion into your decks in the future. Normally it would be true that when there is a pressence of two replacement effects you get to choose which replacement is used so to speak. However Desertion is what you call a self-replacement effect. And Self-replacement effects takes priority before normal replacement effects and so Jonathan doesn't have the choice to send it to his command zone. Hope this helps for future instances, I love you guys playing and its quite enjoyable. And rules mix-up is a given with magic being such an intricate game.

Not that it ever mattered, but Stephen's Archmage Ascension should not have been getting counters from Fevered Visions' draw triggers. Archmage Ascension has an 'intervening if' clause, so two cards would have had to been drawn before the end step in order for its first ability to trigger. Even if Fevered Visions would cause Stephen to draw a second card for the turn, that draw occurs to late to sufficiently allow the Ascension's first ability to trigger.

Not really a huge thing but I believe the activated ability of Burnished Hart goes on the stack, then the trigger from Skullclamp. So Jeremy would have to draw 2 first.

Hey Jeremy: If you havent' figured it out yet, I'd like to see you play Riku of Two Reflections for the Season Finale. I found that playing Riku and Panharmonicon quickly gets out of control. Adding cards like Doubling Season, Flameshadow Conjuring, and "Magic" Mirror, and the deck explodes in tokens. I think it's super fun and I feel that you would really enjoy playing it.

A couple of trigger things: 1: Jeremy, if you sacrifice something for an activation, and an ability triggers on its death, you resolve the trigger first. 2: Stephen, if there is an intervening "if" clause for a trigger-- at the time it tries to trigger, if you do not have the added condition (such as not having already drawn 2 cards for Archmage Ascension), the ability will not be put on the stack at all.

Since going into the command zone is a replacement effect and the text is only written in one part, the same replacement effect applies to the rest of the text, hence he can cast it. Since Jeremy killed Locust God on John's end step, it won't return to Justin's hand until the beginning of the NEXT end step, which would have been Justin's end step the following turn. Could have been a big deal because Justin wouldn't have made insect tokens.

Undead Alchemist and Altar of dementia let's you sac creatures and mill a player for cards equal to the sacced creatures power. Each time a creature is milled, you make another 2/2 zombie, meaning if you hit a creature each time you replace it with a new one, being able to mill even more cards (and the creatures are exiled).
