I hope brood war never dies. I never play matches but I just enjoy it as a viewer.

Same here. I'm horrid at RTS but I that makes it even more enjoyable considering I know how hard it is!

There's something enthralling about watching brood wars. I wonder if this is how sports fans feel.

I think the only thing Brood War lacks is better prize money. This way maybe we could get more people interested in the game.

Unfortunately there aren’t many younger players getting into BW outside of South Korea, and even there it’s not bringing in much new blood. I would guess your average BW player is 30-40 years old at this point. Hopefully some rich Saudi oil tycoon’s son will reinvigorate the prize purses in the coming years.

@@gasstationpeanuts1814i started playing at 19 years old, but bro, it's sooo hard. Watching these gods I cannot believe how good they are and how many thousands of hours they have.

Broodwar has a very sustainable prize money amount. Yes it's low but I'd rather have a stable scene rather than a scene with huge prize pools where if one day the company that owned the game or some rich billionaire got bored the entire scene would collapse. I think the biggest problem for Broodwar getting more people interested in the game is that people think of Broodwar as being insanely difficult (which it is) and having the most skill (which it does). That turns off some people. The people it doesn't turn off if they decide to play the game will go onto ladder and play against smurfs that are so much better than them they don't learn anything or play against the cheesiest things you can imagine. If they decide to watch they might notice really obvious mistakes and think Broodwar players aren't that good even if the reason why broodwar players can look so bad is because the game is so hard in the first place.

@@gasstationpeanuts1814 There was actually a BW tournament in Saudi recently (Gamers8) that had a bigger prize pool than ASL lmao. I think Broodwar should aim to get invited to tournaments like the Gamers8 tournament where you have like 10 different games and you might get someone that wouldn't normally look at Broodwar looks at Broodwar. All it took for me was one KZbin video in my recommended to start watching an hour of Broodwar a day, I'd think a whole tournament right next to all the other biggest Esports has to be getting some viewers into Broodwar long term.

I used to only watch SC2 pro matches. But slowly I started getting interested in Brood War with the release of remastered and learning about ASL. It took a while but now I love watching Brood War. I find SC2 kind of boring now and I can't explain why but Brood war is just more interesting!
@miramosa7768 Жыл бұрын
For me, it's the fact that it's so hard to play well. Even pros make mistakes while also pulling off these insanely skillful moves. It's how important the attention economy is, how a player can never be on top of everything, so mind games really feel like mind games if you can force your opponent to stretch their attention beyond what they can handle.

One thing that makes brood war more enjoyable for me to watch is how the armies move. In sc2, every unit moves in unison because you can put them all in one control group, but in brood war units are controlled in groups of 12 so fights end up looking a lot more dynamic and messy

Definitely not. He didn't have the gas to go hive (Or time. By the time you get adrenal, protoss is going to have storm and archons) or enough lings to actually threaten anything. Zerg was so far behind in that game that it was basically unwinnable with how many drones those first 2 zealots killed.
