Yeah I generally agree Dewalt had the build order and defenders advantage, Motive just out-micro and made better decisions, and Dewalt couldn't keep up in terms of building more gates and/or batteries. As you mentioned, he had a surplus of minerals he wasn't spending and I think that was the difference. Imagine if he had a third gate much sooner?

Bro I was thinking the same thing. He needed to add a forge and 1 cannon. OR added 1 more gate and 1 more sheild battery. You gotta do it super quick while you're microing though it's tricky.

Spoiler Alert: Alright... Damn, Dewalt floated like 500 minerals in the last game, he should have thrown 1 or 2 batteries to counter the 3. 3 batteries vs 1 is insane, you need to match it on energy or else they're effectively recovering shields 3x longer each time - that adds up! I agree also with building a forge next to nexus and a sneaky cannon or two to help hold. Again, during zealot build time he had tons of minerals doing nothing so he could have invested it in forge + Cannon or extra shields atleast, just to be safe. But, Easy to watch and comment than play the game and make the moves in that situation so no hate on Dewalt, just was rooting for him! Next time he'll go further for sure

I really liked switching to red and blue at the end, being partially colourblind some colour choices can make mirror matches a bit confusing when the big melee fights happen.

Sad to see Dewalt lose two games that he had significant strategic advantages in, I was rooting for him! In game 1 there was some shaky micro early on when he had equal goons and was up a zealot that led to unfavorable trades, followed by a big blunder at 5:30 when he attacks his own dragoon while trying to get retreating moving shots. In game 2, there were so many ways to win that it's hard to say anything other than that motive is a stronger mechanical player. He frequently had the zealot advantage, but couldn't create favorable or even equal trades and just bled his advantage. At one point he had 450 minerals banked! Starcraft is just such a hard game, hoping he keeps developing his skills and comes back next CNSL.

Oh man that last game was frustrating to watch. Dewalt was sooooo close to holding the rush, but a couple of indecisive moves in a hectic, high pressure situation sunk him. Good effort getting this far into the tournament and series though.

That was bogus. Dewalt messed up big time. He didn't heal and just took the fight and let him out micro him. If it were me I would've tried to add a forge instead of 2nd battery. If you get one cannon up you basically win if you block with probes.

Spoiler Alert: I mean props to Motive for winning the Zealot fight but god damn Dewalt microed like a a complete low-elo player. At one point he had a 3 Zealot advantage while defending, so he even had a larger advantage since he could reinforce his troops quicker but decided to not build any more batteries, nor target the ones Motive built with the extra Zealots he had. Also started floating a lot, he had 4 Zealots qued up and still had like 200 in the bank at one point, which could durely be spent on more batteries. I'd like to say it again, props to Motive for pulling out an impossible win in that scenario but I feel like Dewalt just played really poorly.

The mineral floating was sad, he really fell apart that last game. Could have made a 3rd gateway easy or more of his own shield batteries. More gateways would have meant losing one would not have lost him the match. He didn't look like himself that game.

in games 1 and 3 I think motive had clearly better dragoon micro, surprised he went for that 2 gate proxy g4. I guess he knows the secret though(build more shield batteries)

The first game was kind of too huge of a blunder for somebody of Dewalt's skill to make. Motive makde the "correct" buiid order that allows you to get an observer into their base and then play with perfect information. Dewalt didn't do that and tried to cut corners, which always results in a loss in PVP because you are always out of position as we saw. huge props for trying the base trade though, there are not many people that would've take this game from Dewalt despite the mistakes. The last game was just crazy. To say it in Artosises word "I lost because it was impossible for me to lose".

Ah man Dewalt did well but you can tell Motive's micro was just that one step above. Otherwise his macro was on point, he was willing to take big risks to try to win. All a solid recipe for a competitor.

I’m all in for Motive. Can sense the aggressiveness of Dewalt while trying hold and maybe disappointment 😄. Somehow I feel like Motive really studied a lot about Dewalt’s strategy and owned him completely at every step.

Why didn’t dewalt just make a forge or at least equal number of shield batteries? He floated 400 minerals that entire time while getting outmicroed with zealots. I think arty has a crush on dewalt. Commentary always seems to be biased towards towards him. “Motive’s execution too good” how about dewalt’s horrible decision making after scouting the gates
