I’m prepared to die on the hill that Ghost is the highest skill cap unit, and has the most utility in any non-TVT matchup. Though technically could have utility to emp Ravens and Medivacs.

Man, Dark sending all of those ultras to take out the last mining base was one of those Bobby Fischer queen sacrifice-type moves. Absolutely brilliant.

Actually, Dark did a similar move against Zest some time ago. He stole one of his HTs and used Feedback against all of the others. Won inmediatly after that.

That game was really close all the way through! Loved it!! Those traitor Ghost EMPs were not only badass but also devastating. The army supply that had the longest lifespan for Byun were Ghosts and Medivacs most of the time. So those traitor EMPs were often massive!! Plus Dark was sending an army into the Ghost clump most of the time immediately after he pulled it off to capitalize on that trick to the max. That was sweet!

Reminds me of this one game Serral played on Lightshade where he neuraled one high templar in a group and instantly feedbacked all the others then finished it off with a storm on the whole group, killing all but the one he stole (as it had no feedback damage).

It really feels like Terran needs some of their power redistributed away from Ghosts (at least vs. Zerg and Protoss) and put somewhere else. They are practically essential in the late game against both and have so much utility it's bananas.

yeah, ghosts just seem to be such a dumb uni. fantastic against anything big and expensive, great against spellcasters, can still shoot and run well against weak shit. what does that leave? also irritating how some units just flat out arent playable against a certain race, like ultralisks. seems like awful design to me.

@@johnhenryiii3070 It's not the player's responsibility to come up with good balance. As it stands now Ghosts with some good micro seem to completely break the game, even in a game such as this, where Zerg "should" have won 10 minutes earlier by being more active, acting more cleverly, keeping the Terran constantly contained, etc. If it means we need a new unit or a new spell in the game to combat something that completely breaks the balance, well, then that's what it takes. Even if it's just replacing the Ghost's AOE ability with a targeted or small radius silence with long range, perhaps. Keep the Snipe, but reduce the damage by a lot. It's effectively just in the game as an anti Zerg (and Templar) counter. Fungal used to completely immobilize enemies. Ultras used to be good at some point. But Ghosts? Ghosts shut down everything Zerg has basically. Maybe Nydus worms could be reworked. Zerg shouldn't "win" in a straight up battle, but by being able to replace their army quicker, by being able to attack quickly on different parts of the map, by coming at you from different angles with quickly changing unit compositions, but if the answer for Terran is just "build Ghosts", then that makes for very boring games. On a pro level at least.

Ultras need some kind of buff or something. Every other late game unit on all 3 races are at least situationally used in high level gameplay, but Ultras are almost never.

What is the rational against ravens? Zerg has Overseers with its army at all time as well, saving on scans also means you can drop more miningmashines.

Maybe because they're slow and get picked off easily, especially "all army moving", while a scan is just replenishable energy and covers a wide radius at any place on the map. Yeah, you could drop more mules, and maybe that would make sense. Mine out those bases faster, so you can move on to the next and starve your opponent.

It takes a huge amount of micro for very little payoff. You'll probably end up losing something around 30 minerals per supply (partially because of the loss from cancelling, and partially because of lost mining time), and it takes too much focus to micro your army at the same time as doing it for any more than a few supply so if anything is actually happening at the same time (which it almost always is) you're in a lot of trouble. It can also never give more supply than you have in drones, and because you're using those drones for the spore trick they aren't mining, so you really may as well just suicide your drones instead if you wanted more supply in your army since they aren't doing anything other than waste resources while you're doing the spore trick anyway..

I'm am not on these players level (and do not pretend to be) but I have to wonder... if you are a zerg player who is supply maxed on roach ravenger, why would you not want to skirmish the crap out of your army while tech'ing/researching into an end game army that can be insta-built after a losing all in? Full hydra/lurker replacement after suiciding 200 supply of wreckage?

1) Because they just wouldn't do much damage if you suicided all of them into a fortified position. They aren't as valuable as other units. but you still don't want to lose them for nothing. 2) It still takes time to create a new army and rally all of them - in that time the opponent will kill 2-3 bases if you have nothing left to defend yourself with. 3) They rarely actually have the resources to create an entirely new army at once. Even if they have some resources in the bank, it's not like it's enough to create an entire army at once.

This game felt like Dark was either really toying with his food or was really trying to lose. It feels like those ultras he sent after the planetary were mostly useless. Like getting highly educated engineer to tighten a bolt, and then shooting him once he's done so. He had such a huge bank that got absolutely obliterated by steady targeting, while the ultras were going after the planetary. I don't know if it was a misplay or what but it seemed like impatience to me. Dark wasn't trading great but he had access to so many more resources than ByuN that he would eventually have just too much for ByuN to handle, with his last bastion of ghosts..
