Hi winter. I am that one Terran you got to play a game of starcraft. That game was in fact my first game. I made my barracks and started making my marines. Then a reaper jumped in my base and started murdering me. As advised I didn't panic and it lived there for a moment while my marines where builing (it killed the first three). I thought "Well this guy is likely not building workers while this reaper runs rings around me so I will max out and murder him. I died to a tank in my mineral line a minute later.

Listening to those questions at 1:30:00 - 1:43:00 - you have so much patience. Quick summary: How do I counter a (dubious North American) build? 1. run the replay through a build order stripper 2. Practice the build as the cheesy (North American) 3. Create a new account on the European ladder 4. Play the build for your placement matches If you go 5-0, bring it back to North America and get #1 on the ladder. If you get crushed on the European ladder, 1. run the replay through a build order stripper 2. Practice the build as the European 3. Always win against that (North American) build as long as you identify the dubious build early by scouting.

@MrGeorgeFlorcus2 жыл бұрын
I think this sort of thing is really helpful, it shows just how much you can get done with less APM if you are making the right units, making the right calls, and taking meaningful, informed actions, instead of just wildly clicking, building tech you don't need, and rushing the enemy with half-baked compositions. Him beating the smurf accounts with 100+ APM while usually going about half their APM is pretty impressive. These tips, without the actionable penalty of being soft-capped at 50 APM could really help someone who can spare the extra 5-10 APM to do everything he would have done, only faster.

I think this is the best B2GM guide out there, mostly because he actually limits the speed at which he does things. He also does a better job at explaining the principles rather than just demonstrating a build order. Other channels like Vibe or PIG do a pretty good job of explaining the game but they also move waaaay faster. PIG had something around 120+ APM in his Bronze league videos. Vibe and PIG also really train a specific build order while this guide shows many different ways of playing, focusing on the fundamentals of macro, scouting, etc.
@MaybeTiberius6 ай бұрын
yeah. i really dont like vibes or pigs approaches tbh. i am not saying that what they do teach isnt working or wrong. but its too static and too brute force ONE thing. i primarily play games because they are FUN. and playing hundreds of vibe games sitting in your base afk for 30 minutes building workers is not fun at all. and if something happens outside of your plan, you re screwed. in reality the game is very dynamic and stuff happens and... you know i m just not a big fan of having a static ''do this and only this and ignore everything else'' in a very dynamic enviroment that you are supposed to interact with. also i think vibes way can even be damaging long term. if you follow this ''build worker for 30 minutes and then a move without watching'' gameplan and lets say you hit like plat or diamond... then what? all of a sudden your opponen start actually playing the game and all you can do is build a lot of workers and a move because you have not practiced anything else. i think understanding basic concepts and gradually improving in them together as you play will just make you an overall better and well rounded player in the long run. and winter is kind of doing exactly that. winters series, you learn stuff, you ll get a little bit better at everything every game and foremost .. it is FUN
@Louel32 жыл бұрын
This series is great because unlike a LoL ladder climbing series you set a hard limit on yourself to try and even the playing field. It is actually a great learning series, not just stomping lows for no reason.

I didn’t realize how important worker count is. I’ve only been building 55 workers and could never max out before 13:30, which felt really slow. Getting more workers would let me max out earlier and have the production to replace my army quickly after attacking if I don’t wipe them out. Huge improvement! :)

even though maybe gimmicky(?) im very glad i found this series, while trying to find out how to get into the game, it has felt very challenging for me to acquire a proper sense of understanding and perspective on the workings of the game and its developed techniques, as my very first rts and first non-fighting game/non-fps that ive tried to learn in a long time, im pretty lost when it comes to familiarizing myself with the atmosphere in the community and the objective of the games core mechanics like i can swiftly achieve with subjects within my usual territory like with games in my known genres, i look through tutorials in game, experiment against bots, and look up a variety of tournament as well as nonprofessional higher-level footage to kinda get a big picture that can demonstrate the state/purpose of the game and its community. but as i expected, this style of versus, and version of mechanical depth is more intensely unique than i could prepare for, my usual method is much less effective here while struggling to become satisfied with how i control the game, analyze, and respond to conditions within time, my objective of finding something that can act as my tutorial so that i can practice in a way thats not just reading through help sections over and over and/or practicing solely for higher apm that i dont even know what to do with, was turning out to be kinda far fetched; finding this kind of content is what i was looking for, allowing me to see through a terran's pov who (even though just by coincidence) wont fire out drum loads of inputs, giving me nothing to hold on to and take in (this usually can be overlooked in fgs and fps' but that doesnt seem to be the case here for me), explaining the core thought process, and even demonstrating some of the community's thoughts through the calm humor mixed in; this is the kind of stuff i look forward to finding when exploring new games i still dont know a ton and have a long way to go before feeling confident, but thanks to you, what previously seemed like a rough and inefficient learning process is now looking to become a comfortable and passable welcoming into a new experience that started as exciting, then turned uncertain, then was assured to be exciting again it's just the right stepping stone for my style of playing and learning tl;dr: kool vids, dud 👍

I grinded to gold as a Zerg maybe like 6 years ago that’s it, but with these videos, I did my first few ranked matches and got masters league. I really don’t mean to be condescending to anyone but if your still struggling to climb the ladder, and you haven’t listened to what winter thinks is important, than your doing yourself a disservice. Sticking to your build order/gameplan and successful scouting. THATS IT. Boom your master league. Stop over thinking the game and stop cheesing, stop trying to go for worker drops and all this fancy shit. If again have a gameplan and stick to it. Nothing more or less.

I'm new, I play on a laptop with a trackpad, my left click button is not very responsive, and I just am not that fast, so seeing someone play at low APM is very helpful I'm also a long time fan of Brood War, never played it competitively, but it was the first game I ever played, and I continue to play it frequently (against ai). So I'm getting used to all the new hotkeys. I can't tell you how many times in campaign I kept mashing the M key and wondered why my barracks wouldn't build marines SCII was my birthday present to myself so I've only been playing it for a couple of weeks.
