For the militarytime: it depends how many brothers you have. Normal only the first 3 brothers must go to milirary. If he is number 4 he is free. His family has fulfilled its duty.

It also could happen due to medical concerns that could not even be disclosed to the public. If someone has a weak heart or some chronic illness that makes physical exercise unhealthy for them - this could be a reason not to be enrolled into the military, because you're effectively pretty useless as a soldier, and can just die or have a health complication suddenly, meaning the military wasted their money and time on you and got a huge bad PR for that.

As a cheese-loving American, there are two cheese fact to keep in mind: 1. Cheese doesn't come on everything by default, but you can usually request it be added/removed. 2. The plastic sort of cheese must legally be labeled as "cheese product" due to lower fat content. it gets used so much because it's WAY cheaper than actual cheese.

Yes Zest still has to do his military service and in fact he recently played his last GSL before conscripting. But hey Classic is back from the military and he already had 2 Bo5 series against Zest in code A and was right around his skill level so I wouldn't worry too much about Classic getting back in form.

If you watch Tastosis, they occasionally elaborate -- apparently men in South Korea can defer their mandatory military service under certain conditions. One of those conditions is something like 'providing significant cultural benefit' or something like that, which includes being an eSports pro.

I wouldn't know for sure, not being Korean, but ik in the US a lot of times certain health issues that wouldn't necessarily affect your ability to play sc2 effectively can affect your ability to serve in the military. Obviously I'm speculating and he would likely not be comfortable talking openly about it but it may be possible that Zest falls into one of those categories.

Some South Korean can do civil service instead of military service. IIRC, they usually require to have some physical hindrance which makes military service impossible.

There is an age requirement when you can do your military services the latest. I think it is either 35 or 45. So you get to choose at which age you want to join the army. Obviously, there are social status penalties if you are eligible yet choose not to serve. The penalty will lift once you finish your military service. I think one of the penalties is if you are eligible to join the army, but have not served, then you won't be granted a passport. I could be wrong.

As others have said the common reasons for avoiding military service are being unfit physically (too fat or skinny), full body tattoos, mental illnesses having been in treatment for at least six months, citizen of another country, political connections, or something that could play more in the future being an Olympic medal winner. Obviously not all inclusive, but those are the most common reasons.

In South Korea, only men between 18-28 must perform compulsory military service. Since Zest was born in 1992, he should be 29-30 years old now and isn't expected to serve anymore. This means he somehow delayed it long enough until last year, possibly by faking illnesses, studying overseas, changing citizenship, using political connections, having body tattoos, or being over/underweight etc.. Draft dodging is, however, deeply shunned in South Korea though. This is just my speculation, but if Zest can spend a couple of thousands bucks to buy a fake medical certificate in order to retain his SC2 skills and possibly earn hundreds of thousands from tournaments, public opinions are irrelevant.

It's possible that he just medically DQ'd over various things that while minor if you have will prevent you from signing up. Flat feet, history of mental illness in immediate family, arms being too short, food allergies, disorientated sense of balance, etc. If that's the case then Zest likely just had to show up to get a medical waver of exemption and nobody can blame him for that. If you're not fit to serve for factors out of your control then you shouldn't be blamed for it.

AFAIK, the only things that could really get him out of military service are extreme weight loss/gain, a debilitating mental illness, or full-body tattoos. Most of the things you mentioned would still have him entering active duty, supplementary service, or 2nd citizen service. He'd at least be going to boot camp for a month if nothing else.
