Yeah; this game was over after a few minutes. Serral is patient and does not like to take unnecessary risks, but boy this was the most boring match ive watched in a long time. Nukes are such a meme against top tier players as well; at least he managed to get his own vikings though... oh yeah and a handfull of drones against a guy with 20k in the bank... not sure which is more pointless.

@@blebgoegbleb zerg is unbalanced and also comparatively boring to watch, especially at higher levels - that is unless they lose to a protoss or terran player, because it means whoever the zerg is facing is so skilled and/or intelligent that it outweighs the poor balancing. zerg has so much going for them and so few downsides that it cheapens anything a "top zerg player" manages to achieve to anyone who isnt extremely biased

I don't play SC2 but have been watching since the MC/MMA/MVP days back when Day9 was around... Lately it's been hard watching the Zerg matchup because it seems like Infestor/Brood/Viper/Corruptor hard counters everything, terrain can shoot off 20+ nukes and still loses haha. Idk who the best of all time is but I feel it's a small knock against Serral (although he is still very good) to have won during this period. I know he isn't at fault and the balance just happened to swing in his favor.

Agreed. Given the human skill level being equal-ish (and at the top it is) the Zerg is just too strong as a race. This shouldn't even be a hot take. This game was over from the first 5 minutes, although massive credit should be given to Serral for making it look so easy.

Yeah but Byun had one good year and it was due to the reapers and liberators after they got patched he fell off hard. The best players dont have a good year then just fall off completely. They have consist results like even Innovation hasn't done well but its never a surprise when he wins something. He has never fell off hard in a year. Hes been consist with his performance. I like byun but after that gsl/blizzcon win he became irrelevant fast. He does has god like mirco though. Just my opinion.

Serral IS probably the best Zerg of all sc2 HOWEVER, it just so happens that the meta for a while now has slightly favored turtling up as a Zerg and being able to defend to macro up to tier 3 because of a multitude of things that add up like winfestor broodlord cost efficiency, queens (arguably the best unit in the game, apart from ridiculous buffs like with warp prisms) being able to defend essentially anything, balance changes favoring against aggressive openings against zerg, etc. just so happens to favor Serral’s “scout them then counter to defend it” playstyle and just happen to coincide really well NOT saying he isn’t a great player, probably among the best of all time BUT considering how some players from other races have dominated beyond meta changes should be considered if ur clumping up the players to be regarded as the best TLDR: Terran’s weak balance-wise, but Blizzard loves Zerg and anything that hits Zerg lategame gets nerfed also Protoss players are irrelevant because toss imba Thank you for tuning in to my TED talk

She was one of the best even when people like snute and stephano was on the sceen. I also remember her wins against MC who was really good little better than Polt. End even now she is more experienced with more build orders than Serral, just Serral is much faster in thinking and movements. Age does matter, Maru shows the same problem...

Fungal growth. The fact it does damage and Parsitic bomb does damage and then they removed the Terran damage missile from raven...... And I've said it before that Zerg is just slightly easier to control than protoss and terran due to the Hatchery/larva mechanics. Also I notice that zerg units have less activated abilities than terran so it leads to easier control for the groupings. Zerg can have banes, zerglings, hydras, and an infestor in a group. While terran has marines that need stim, a dropship that advances too far, ghosts that require them to be tabbed. The list goes on with activated abilities. I really don't think fungal growth should do damage. Limiting movement is a massive bonus. Especially with a decent casting range.

That shadow is the there because the actual light source for the map is pretty low, and when the rocket goes up it goes higher than the light source is, making the shadow go trough the entire map. Kinda weird.

Has anybody been able to take on Serral with bio in late game? I can't recall a single match that went any other way than what we just saw. Ghost/nuke switch was a good start, but you need to back that with something heavy. BCs could have helped a lot, both as harassing units and to help thin out the brood lords. But overall, mech seems like a way better fit against Serral's style.

2 things: I wonder what would have happened if Inno held that center region with nonmining, repaired planetaries instead of yankable liberators to counter broods. Second, what if Inno tried flooding the map with cheaper mines instead of ghost/nukes each time, to tax Zerg's detection. On that note, an interesting buff might be to allow an upgrade allowing mines to be burrowed but not auto-activated.

And another ZvT where late zerg tear terran apart. What's more, it seems that Infestor counters vikings, counters cyclones and hellions, counters bio, counters protoss air, counters battle cruizers. And what does Raven counter? Huh? I'm not sure what would help protoss deal with late zerg (funny how in the past zerg struggle against airtoss and toss deathball, and now toss is defensless against zerg late game). But I can already tell that terran need to get back damage on their Raven bombs back. Terran late game is worthless against zerg because terran spellcasters are vastly inferior. Zerg was always about being superior in economy, so if late game zerg army is more cost-efficient, it will always win.

If we go this route then Zerg units should produce much faster. You can't just make Brood lords and infestors and then just lose them and think that you max out again in seconds. Raven nerfs were justifiable. At least the earlier splash spell was just ridiculous and broken. We also literally watching the best player at the moment. It should be not a huge surprise when he wins and makes it look easy. And lastly it is kinda pointless to cry about nerfs, when those are coming soon.

@@KingOfBlades27 That nerf will only weaken infestor infested terrans, which were efficient only against air units, and it can still prevent terran BC from teleporting or turning one BC against another by controling them. So while this nerf help protoss a bit, it still doesn't change TvZ. Infestor and Viper will still make zerg late army more cost-efficient, and since zerg players always have superior bank, they'll tear terran apart. Personally I don't care much about nerfing zerg in general, but rather giving terran toll to stand a chance against zerg late game. Like I said before, Infestor/Viper make fragile vikings nearly useless. Infestor/Vipers also make terran battle mech easy to kill since they are very fragile and die easily if they can't keep distance. Even Bio don't like Infestor spells, and expensive ghosts seem to die before doing anything at all. Raven in the past may seem OP, but only because for the first time terran had an actual tool to fight zerg late-game head on. Ever since the nerf late game TvZ is just zerg tearing terran apart. It all comes down to how versable infestor is now. It works perfect with army, perfect when massed, and counters nearly every army composition. Infestor now is like High Templar but on steroids. Raven and Ghost are nowhere near as good in comparation. (I dunno if new Ghost upgrade will allow them to EMP infestors from now on, but Raven's only role nowdays seem to be for TvT).

But if you start nerfing it's other abilities then what exactly are Zerg players options in late game? Zerg really doesn't have other consistent/reliable late game options than playing like Serral is playing here. And doing it isn't easy.

@@KingOfBlades27 It's not that zerg doesn't have much of a choice, but rather that Broodlords were often called GGlords, because the moment they are out, the game is over. Thor was buffed to help deal with them, but I don't see any pro terrans winning with Thors or Ghosts in their armies. The issue here is that Infestor/Viper provide so much useful support, that Broodlords are nearly untouchable. (While Broodlord on its own have many weaknesses, Infestor/Viper cover those weaknesses perfectly). Also, I said it before and I'll say it again, I don't care much about nerfing zerg late-game, but rather improve terran spellcasters. Maybe they can give an upgrade that takes very long time to finish, but adds damage to Raven bombs, or if 50 damage per bomb is too much, why not give it 75 damage that doesn't stack (15 damage for per second for 5 seconds). Or they can just allow this upgrade to I dunno, reduce opponent's speed, so Anti-Armor missile will not just reduce enemy armor, but also allow terran to capitalize of it. At the moment whenever anti-armor missile hit something, terran can never take advantage, but if opponent will be slower, this would prevent enemy from retreating. Mobility is very important, so being able to slow down enemy army for long period of time would make Raven a solid support unit rather than solo TvT tool.

@Cgi Dude Funny, because Infestor spell not only slow down opponent by 75% but also do overtime damage to them, so I see nothing wrong with Raven bombs doing overtime damage as well to even things out. And if damae overtime is too much, just let anti-armor missile slow down enemy army. I mean, what's the point of reducing armor of the enemy if they will just withdraw, wait for it to pass and re-engade. Raven was meant to support armies and make them better, yet I barely see Raven making any difference. 9 out of 10 times when anti-armor bomb hit, Terran fail to rush in and capitalize on it, especially in pro battles. If they added 20% reduction of mobility, this would change a lot. Being able to slow down enemy army aside reducing their armor would be massive and make Raven useful for more than TvT.

Hopefully next year that changes for her would be great to see the success she deserves. Reynor is definitely one to look out for next year.

Feeling like Terran has a very distinct play style: creating fortresses and defending with static units and defenses while sending out faster groups of unit. Terran is vulnerable to being choked out and losing map control if their army is defeated too often while in the field, making it difficult to establish new positions. My take from recent meta is their static defenses vs air are lacking. All Serral committed when moving on a PF (except the bottom right and other isolated PFs) was air units. I believe a buff of some sort for the Missile Turret would be the most favorable adjustment Terran could receive as of this game. Still liking most of the upcoming changes.

Could Terran experiment with ravens to counter this type of zerg composition? infestors complement broodlords, so maybe ravens could come up as a cost-effective unit to push away that zerg army. Battlecruisers are also dangerous, because they can do yamato shots, but can also be taken by infestors. Maybe the matchup changes a bit with the new ghost EMP radius upgrade, but it surely feels grim when Serral assumes that late-game army ._.!

Infestors abilities shouldn't touch massive units at all this is complete nonsense. And fungal is getting nerfed FINALLY but still am sure it won't be enough. Battle cruisers need their campaign upgrades and raven need the healing satellite from campaign. And let's not forget : BRING BACK firebath and medics. !!!! You can clean any zerg ground with that; no f sporecrawlers killing medivac.

Devourer would be better then scourge to replace the anti air capital ship void from viper and neural parasite nerf. Devourer would also give mutalisks double damage vs air units as well.

Agreed late game Zerg is honestly pretty silly. It didn't even seem to be hard to get to that late game stage for Serral this game. There wasn't any aggression except for a few helions and failed drops that Serral had to face.

Until Zerg isn't broken late game, then, can we determine who the real world champion is. Because Zerg can't loose at late game if the player is extremely good. They outclass the other races. Sure they can loose, but on average especially with the games you've hosted Lowko, you can see Zerg doesn't loose late game like 90% of the time (just a hypothetical estimate)

Over the 9 years this game has been out and changed and patched we have seen many changes to which class is OP and when. While it is true Zerg is too strong in the late game right now and it needs/is getting worked on that does not count out the player being extremely skilled by any means. To chalk it up to balance this time you would have to take away everyone who ever won anything when their class was the best victories.

After watching SC2 tournaments for over a year (almost 2 now), I've noticed a few things: 1) Serral around WESG / IEM 2018 was already incredibly dominant (though not on the levels of Rogue, Stats, Maru and dark to an extent). Even without patches Serral showed ridiculous growth as a player which is why he's so dominant towards the end of 2018 and end of 2019. 2) Out of all the terran matches I've watched against zerg, hardly any allowed zerg to tech up to both broodlords and infestors. That seems to be the end all be all for all races, even outstripping a maxed out skytoss (Serral vs Trap at IEM 2018). 3) Protoss Immortals / Warp prism seems to also be a ridiculously powerful strategy against anything early game. Zerg always has the ability to hold on and snowball, but I've hardly seen Terrans gain a lead from someone who can micro well. Also note that I'm NOT a pro SC2 player, as I'm sure many who are here will point out a hundred and one things that I've missed. It's more so a viewer's perspective on how the meta of SC2 favors Protoss and Zerg more than terran. Perhaps this is because Terran is one of the most mechanically intensive races to play (almost every unit having their own special ability), or maybe Zerg and Protoss are easier races to master. Tl;dr Zerg is certainly unbreakable late game and the only race that has an answer to preventing that development is Protoss with Immortals / Warp Prisms.
