Actually, the 87% win rate by aligulac was after they changed Oliveira's score based on his performance in the IEM. Before that, it predicted a 94% win for Maru

Olivera said in Chinese - I would like to say to everyone who’s still watching this live - there really isn’t anything that’s impossible, (choking up) I mean, I’ve already become the world champion, so there really isn’t anything that’s impossible (crying now). In the beginning, it was really difficult. In the beginning it was really really hard. I lost 0-6 in the last contest and I told myself that as long as I worked really hard, really really hard, (almost sobbing) one day when I become the world champion, I can show everyone that it’s possible.

Wow. The mindgames. 31:00 Blue finishes his bunker and puts the SCV building it inside to make the bunker look full and defend with the other units the jump pad. At 31:28 Red comes in, look at that bunker and decide to retreat right away to take any damage (even though the bunker is filled with 1 SCV). Just, wow. 33:02 as Red comes in, the critter's behavior is to move away from any units and that gets picked up by Blue which unload the marine to scout why that critter moved. It's extremely precise gameplay.

I watched this live at 4:30am from China, a lot of us here cried as he did. Counting from the third match vs. Reynor, he won 10 games out of 12, against the highest rank Z, P and T in the world. In this match set with Maru in particular, he won in every possible stage - early game, counter-cheese, mid game, and the 25-minute late game. It was a miracle. I don't think he can replicate such winning streak against these players and actually he himself thought so too. But we'll worry about that another day. Today, we have a champion.

51:28 looks like Maru made an impressive hold at his base, but what happened at the same time, and none of the casters noticed, is that Oliveira set up two liberators at his 10 o'clock and 6 o'clock expansions and killed 35 SCVs with no response from Maru. This basically sealed the deal for the final match, even without Maru's pathing mistake in the end.

I haven't had time to watch the tournament until just now. I had to look real closely when i kept seeing the name "Oliveira" in the VODS. Didn't recognize the name. SPOILERS Realized during his match vs Her0 that it was Time. I hadn't heard about the name change. Then Time won the world championship??? What????? I knew he was good but he always seemed kinda mid tier, like Gumiho level terran. Gumiho is an amazing player he just isn't a regular tournament winner like Maru or old school Innovation or even someone like Cure. What a crazy run for him. Ragnarok had a great year and so did Creator also. So glad to see these long time players finally having success after a goddamn decade of grinding.

No one and I mean NO one saw this coming. I don't remember the last time Maru lost a TVT series. However Oliviera completely dominated. He played out of his mind. His decision making was out of this world. He read everyone perfectly. Nothing beats the SCV pull against Hero though.

Lowko, I dont like to say this, as you're by far my favourite caster, but I have to admit I was super hiped watching it live... and Tastosis did a banger of a cast. Once said that, I loved your casts at Katowice. Very very nice job you did there. Sorry for the first part.

Im all for Maru and anyone winning. I just love to see the match. having a chinese champions possibly means spearheading the market share and a brand new audiences(or something of a similar manner, you know what i mean.) and its a huge one. if you are asian like me you'll know how big of an impact china has over the region. could potentially be a double edge sword for the overall SCII community, yet I'm excited to see what comes up next for our beloved games and player. if it goes to where im predicting this might be the spark that lit a whole another waves of China for SCII which could impact the competitve scenes as a whole. this is history in the making. Oliveira being the first against a legend Maru himself. what a story.

So excited to see you cast this!! Lowko, I enjoyed seeing you on the ESL Twitch/KZbin videos for IEM Katowice 2023, but honestly I much prefer your slightly more laid back "Meta Commentary" as opposed to the more technical "click by click hype" I heard from Wardi and Zombie Grub when you cast with them. I get that casting a game live adds a lot of intensity and the tournament wants to keep up the energy for the fans watching live, but most of the lead commentators were not my favorite. One day Simon, one day. I do have to say the ESL obeservers were AWESOME. The picture-in-picture second perspective of two things happening at once was great.

A fun fact to note. We saw a lot of zerg players in the quarter finals, and people complained a lot about the race being op. But then we get a finals without zerg, and we don't see a single balance complaint. This really shows that the people complaining just hate zerg, and that balance has nothing to do with it. If it would be actual balance complaints, terran would get destroyed by the starcraft community.

For people who are subscribed you're probably absolutely right. But in general people don't click on videos if it's not clickbait in the title and the thumbnail. So would you really ask lowko to lose half his views to prevent a spoiler that many people in the community already know?

The deciding moment for game 2 and maybe the entire series, which Oliveira himself acknowledged, is Maru not scouting with the SCV building the first proxy barrack and discovering Oliveira going reactor first. If he did, Maru would not wait for the 2nd reaper to go in and Oliveira's factory would never finish, and Maru would win game 2 99%. I'm surprised none of the casters pointed this out.
