IIRC, the meta in the Korean scene for TvZ was to just get a couple tanks ASAP, with a couple medivacs and ~15 Marines and just go try and contain the Zerg. Zerg would go Muta-Ling-Baneling and just try to survive until they could get Infestor/BL. They would need to sacrifice every zergling and baneling and then have their Mutas clean up the tanks. Remember there were no Vipers in WoL, so tanks were extremely difficult to deal with. Building roaches was never recommended because that would just entice the Terran to build a bio-ball which was very strong at the time.

About injects : they can't be queued but gave 4 larvaes per round, currently they only give 3 per inject, that's part of why the number of drones was exploding very quickly.

i took a break right after heat of the swarm and came back in 2019 and i wonderd how even in diamond league all the Zergs had such perfect inject timing. Eventually i read this. WOL Zerg was defiantly the hardest race for low level play.

the funny thing is back then the winncon for toss was zerg to magically clump up all brood lords in a single spot. And Terran i don't even know what they tried. when Infestors were discoverd were was a time where Korean Zergs had a gentmants agreement of not going broodlord infestor but since blizzard didnt do anything for like 10 months this eventually stoped

It's because everyone plays on 'fastest' speed. There's a 'normal' speed too. If you play the campaign on an easier setting, the speed of the game is lower too.

@@MeesterG yeah imagined! Just so confusing to see the progression of the game (tech, economy etc), when compared with the ingame clock. Even Harstem made a reference to the timing and he can get misguided by it (in addition to start with less workers)

You could probably do a rogue style and build a lot of overseer, send changelings to scout, and send burrowed infestors that pop mass infested terran instantly in the terran base where there are detection weaknesses. (and nyduses as well to get them in why not).

Reaper back then required a techlab, were slower, didn't regen health, had a little less hp and didn't have grenades. They can suicide for worker but did not pose any threat to queens.

@13:40 yep this is how you died as zerg back in the day. terrans pushed you before you got broodlords out and you just died. ppl forget there were no lurkers so zergs had to be good at ling / bling / muta or go roach infestor, ending the game before terran deathpush or holding off until broodlords came out. super late game terran just did full air switches and your broods became wasted gas

old infestor fungal did prevent units from moving, as right now it only slows them. also they had infested terran, wich mean they spawned eggs (could be casted while burrowed) and the eggs spawned an infested marine.

The mod balances all the units to their WoL values and abilities. Loading a WoL map does not do that.

What the replies to this comment fail to realize: The player pool is infinitely less casual and more knowledgable now. It's unappealing for new or inexperienced players. Yes, there were still cheeses in WoL, but it was less common for the average player to experience them. People saying that cheeses used to be more prevalent, have a biased POV

@@JustKillam objectively incorrect. people in bronze-gold still have zero clue what they’re doing. you can look at pretty much any gold league/low plat game and see that they just… do things half-randomly. also, even if you were right, that doesn’t matter. the whole complaint in the original comment was that people cheese today, as if they didn’t back in WOL. and they definitely did. I played back then. Cheese was very common- I don’t know what you’re talking about. it’s not like building a pool at 6 workers and spamming lings across the map is some sort of genius 200 IQ strategy that required years of innovation to figure out.

I prefer wol cheesing and macro game, the 12 worker start is good for getting started faster but it removes pacing and strategic options

realsitcally it removed the option to 6 ´pool thats it. therr was never a build in the game that didn't start with 9 pylon 12/13 gate or forge. i guess 2 gate went away instead you got 4 Gate proxy wich does the same playes the same its just more.
