A surprising amount of RTS games appeared on console. Aside from Starcraft 64, early C&C and Warcraft 2 got Saturn and PS1 ports. C&C1 even got a unique looking N64 port with 3D visuals. AOE2 has a PS2 port. EA even ported the later-gen C&Cs to 360/PS3. Plus stuff like Halo Wars. RTS with a controller is pure suffering but the prospect of console $$$ was too juicy to ignore.

This might be the place to share this story but when I was a little boy I went to the boys and girls club. There was a computer lab with StarCraft 1. I would always play it whenever I got the chance. One day there was a tournament for a box copy of brood war. It had just come out that week….. The older kids were much better and there was this brother sister duo named Sean/Becca that absolutely murdered everyone. Well….at the end of this tourney I had to play Becca first…and then her brother Sean was the final boss. I think they were in high school and I was in elementary school. Anyways…. I beat Sean and was rewarded with brood war. When I got home my gateway PC didn’t have enough ram to play it so I begged my mom to upgrade it and someone from her work showed up and did just that. For the next year I haunted that computer lab. I was feared by the high schoolers and kids my age. I lived and breathed star craft until i was introduced to Planetside 1…at which point I dedicated my life to it 🤣😂 seeing SC on n64 brought this memory back and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this
