This got way more views than I expected so here is a quick FAQ while I continue writing up notes for my commentary stream: What the heck is this? - Tool Assisted Speedrun (TAS) for Glitchless Community Center %, attempting to finish every bundle in the community center as fast as possible. This is done with a custom build of Stardew Valley 1.5.4 that I've wrapped to allow me to provide frame-by-frame advancing/input replay. These tools are CLOSED SOURCE, as they'd require me to redistribute the game to effectively let others use the tools as is (as there are multiple areas where I need to wrap the normal control flow to allow the TAS replay to work). Why are you walking in bed/why is it raining every day? - Step manipulation - many events like rain, luck, and whether a villager gives you a gift are decided during the overnight save, where a random number generator is seeded with (among other things) the player's current step count. This run makes heavy abuse of this mechanic to force rain on basically every useful day to water crops, luck for all mining days, and gifts from Robin who ends up giving us about 800 wood in the mail. Why are you waiting in the mines? - Mines floor seeding - when you enter a mines floor, the generation of stones/etc is determined by the second on which the new floor is generated. I'm waiting to roll for a good floor that either has a free ladder or a rock nearby that I can break to spawn a ladder. What on earth is that fishing slide? - I animation cancel during the cast animation, which leads to some really wonky behavior. This has no real practical purpose (I guess it doesn't advance step count...) but I have 2 in-game hours to kill and nothing productive I can do... it's dumb looking though so there's that at least 30 seconds of pausing in skull caverns? - I pause the frame before the in-game clock is about to tick. On a tick, if you're in the mines you can either get a monster spawn or a fog spawn (or nothing). Here I'm waiting to get a serpent to spawn that has a rabbit's foot in its drop list. Why dog not cat? - dog >> cat despite the dog being 3-4 seconds slower. Let's call it RNG manip... Perfection when? - kill me, though I'm interested in routing other categories, I need to get Blade to dust off his marriage notes😎

Why no traveling cart? It could guarantee not having to run all the way to Summer Y2 for the red cabbage, and with the right seed could even make some aspects of animal raising obsolete.
@Underscore763 жыл бұрын
@@rmzing this is something I forgot to call out here (I’ve said it on another vid) but I think a cart run would be extremely boring to route/watch, so for this run it’s no cart/geodes/trashcans for bundle turn ins. That way I’m forced to do basically every aspect of the game (otherwise the run would have no animals/no house upgrade/etc). You’re definitely right though, it’s significantly slower this way assuming I could find a good cart seed

You, sir (or madam) have earned a coveted spot in my favorites list. Of ALL the videos I've watched over YEARS, there are only 186 currently (including this one) that I've put in that list. Only reason the number usually changes, is when videos or channels are no longer available. lol Edits containing thoughts as the video plays out: 2:35 for whatever reason the way you just threw that scarecrow outside in the rain and went back to bed made me laugh WAY more than it probably should have. LOL 5:30 "wait what?" beat "OH, you turned in the quest for the parsnips." 12:33 and 14:10 AHHHH!!!! D: Oh right, must not despawn when you sleep if you dropped it inside, or something. lol That gave me a fright. 14:29 Huh, surprised you didn't already have enough for both bags, with all the thought you obviously put into this thing. lol 17:20 OH! I just realized you never zoomed the screen out! I always do that when I play, but it makes perfect sense not to, for a TAS run! 21:04 Oh that is so satisfying. It don't matter how (or how much) you play the game, it is always so fun getting the crab, without needing the 'crab'pot. It feels like an exploit, without ever actually being one. lol 26:04 Should have grabbed that purple mushroom while you had the chance... Oh wait, guess he was keeping an eye on the time of day. Wait no... that was 1:50 Pm not Am. I missed that part. 32:00 Huh... could of swore you were gonna get the iron axe so you could get the fern here(*). I mean you had the 5 iron ingots and enough funds... Guess I'll have to wait and see why you didn't. (*) Wait... ferns are spring... my bad. (aren't they? I'm SO confused now. lol) 38:10 OHno... You aren't grabbing the reward thingies... D: I get it. It's for the TAS... but that still hurt. lol 38:57 Wait... what did you even build? barn? coop? that was REAL fast. Had to rewind a few frames... I THINK it's a barn? Guess I'll find out. 40:00 I bet this is where things are REALLY going to take off... Skull mines are near at hand. 42:14 ... wait... wouldn't it have been a few less steps to take the minecarts back to the mines than hop out that door? OHH!!! You were seeing if there were any convenient forages along that path, weren't ya! Clever. Continued in a reply for ease of reading...

That went by so fast I couldn't see what you did! (rewound a few frames... 3 spicy eels, and 15 coffee. NOICE find on the eel dish. One of my favorites in the game. 49:30 LOL there's that animation canceling you had mentioned! SmallAnt would call something like that, an XD skip, because it's all about the lulz (thus the XD as a laughing face) but doesn't save any time. I don't remember what GDQ calls the 'for-show' glitches... I remember the word 'showcase', but I don't think that's the right one for DURING a speedrun. 'Pro-Strat' maybe? Said ironically? I'unno... SWAG!!! They always say, "For the swag!" or "Swag-Strat". I knew it would come to me eventually... totally... rolls eyes at self (( Edited after having watched the entire video, and re-reading my metric ton of comments on this thing. LOL )) PS: Would it have been a benefit to go for those bubbles on the right at 50:15 for quicker fish bites? Or does that kind of time-save not really make a difference, when you are running this tight of a TAS? 54:50 Well 88k's a nice tidy sum. For this sort of game, that's about all you could ever need. lol ... Unless you're going for more tools. 58:20 That was interesting. You got Pam to rush twice, collected supplies, upgraded a barn, and STILL had a few moments to spare before she got to her post a few moments early there. Nicely done. PS: close enough that I didn't want to use another timestamp... had to frame-show to see what you did at the desert merchant there. Bought a single stairwell. Okay, carry on. 59:42 There was a hole under the Health bar there. That would have dropped you several floors, instead of only one. The only reasons I can think that you wouldn't have wanted to use it are, can't manip it as easily, or just missed it in the process... which I can't imagine, since your TAS input even knows where ladders are before rocks are cracked. PS: Heheh there's that hype pause from your channel-page. lol So THAT'S why you didn't hop the hole. Might have had to go more floors to find a serpent with the rabbit's foot, Would have taken longer. Makes sense. 1:03:15 Wait... why do you need to still do step-manip-ing in winter? It's not like you can get rain, or storms this time of year. 1:05:30 Oh good, you DID end up grabbing a couple of the rewards. As you may have recalled from one of my previous comments in the first half of these time stamps, it felt weird to just let the rewards expire like that. lol 1:10:40 I didn't think the animals liked the main doors left open at night, especially during cold weather. On a related note, would heaters have helped them be happier a little faster? Or is it another case of it not making enough of a difference for a TAS run, where things can just be RNG-magicked into place? 1:18:15 I couldn't for the life of me, remember whether you needed void eggs or void mayonnaise for the community center or not. I've been playing remixed bundles, and I can't remember the defaults anymore. lol Either way it was a nice break from the sleep spam. ;) PS: Still trying to figure out why you are still occasionally step-manip-ing before bed, since you don't have any crops to worry about any more. 1:19:50 Well now; with that, you've had every night-time event except a crop fairy. Way to go. :) 1:25:55 Ah, there it is! And right on the cabbage too! :D I was wondering why you didn't go get the stuff, because that meant everything was full grown now based on its usual radius... But then I remembered you were working on a wine back at the Community Center. Have to wait for that anyways, might as well zip away the nights anyways. 1:27:10 Oh. We're done? here? Dang it, I thought you'd still have to go through the cut scene and we could see Pierce knock Morris to the moon. }:) Oh well... Still a REALLY fun run. Even without commentary. WOW THAT WAS SO COOL TO SEE!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THE TIME INTO THIS CRAZY THING!!! I hope this ridiculous set of word walls didn't bother you too much. ;) It enhanced MY enjoyment of the run, anyways. lol I'm on to your Joja% video. But I have a feeling I won't have quite as much to say on that one. You get good crops going, you farm them, you sell them, you make the town investments. I hope you keep doing these. They certainly have the capacity to bring joy to those who take the time to watch them. :)

They then proceed to sleep for multiple days on end, yet somehow become the richest person in the valley, and then buy 200+ seeds from Pierre on a regular basis. They're seen every now and then, but it's very little moments just watching them fish or head to the mines. Then one day, the community center is just... Complete, and they're never heard from again.

okay, just finished watching this, and thought of some questions i'd like you to address, either here or in the commentary: 1. why did you give robin a bday gift? for the little amounts of wood she gifts you in the mail, maybe? 2. when you're in the process of petting the animals, are their positions in the barn predetermined? or if not, how difficult was it to teach the program how to "find" them? 3. were the witch and fairy random events planned/desired? if not, what would it take to avoid them? 4. i know that missing bundle% is damn near identical to this category, except at the end--but if you ever did feel like running that category, how much would need to change? how much of what that bundle requires could you and the RNG control? (getting a dino egg and an ancient seed as fishing treasures, for example)

Since it’ll probably be a minute: 1) so Robin gifting was a thing I wanted to try once I decided to go for skull caverns since the early dino floor lined up with it, I think in total she sends me 800 wood in the mail (which is good cause money is super tight with only the 1 pumpkin harvest/no jars) 2) this Q makes me realize I should clarify, this isn’t a bot playing and “solving” every facet of the game, I do have automation for things like “animation cancel on first frame” and even “find/walk shortest path to tile loading zone” but otherwise I’m doing frame by frame advances manually, and this is just replaying that input stream. Animal positions in the barn get rerolled on the frame you enter, this is one of the areas I didn’t fret a ton with super optimizing for positions 3) the night events scan your farm and look for random placable tiles to trigger on, but they’re based on your game seed which I should’ve done more investigation on before starting. The witch/owl/capsule/2x meteors are all time loss, the fairy I could have avoided by changing up crop tiles but it saved me manipping rain/at that point I think it’s ridiculous that I could trigger every night event so I kept it 4) my first glance look at missing bundle doesn’t honestly look that horrible, even post CC I think it’d be fairly quick. I’d want to have saved the sturgeon for a fish pond, gotten extra gold for a seed maker to manip 5 ancient seeds, then it’s whether I should’ve tried for dino egg while I was in SC (I have no idea what the pepper rex drop was, too focused on the rabbit’s foot) or I’d just be sleeping for the correct artifact spot (need something to do while waiting on ancient fruit). Void salmon/quality wine are both kinda hard, I guess I'd race money for the house upgrades? 150k+150 hardwood would've been better to route in earlier/would've probably changed the math on just buying the deluxe coop Great questions!

I’d love to see more TAS work in Stardew. It’s really neat how much you really understand what makes this game tick to do what you did. The fishing slide is also a nice touch lol.

If a speedrunner could pull half the bullsh1t off done in this TAS I think that would be terrifying, the RNG manipulation is insanity, getting wild seeds out of every grass cut, and getting straight potatoes with every seed planted, it's like that 1:32 TAS of minecraft I saw a while back, this is insane and I love it

I'm not sure how it would fit in as a category but I'd be interested in seeing something like a Ginger Island All Golden Walnuts tas, but starting the tas from the day you'd go there the first time, maybe from a different CC-completed file. It'd be neat to see the island in isolation without having to worry about setting up the entire run beforehand. Good work on this tas by the way, it is super satisfying!
@Underscore763 жыл бұрын
so that I find kinda interesting, basically start a file at Spring 1 Y1 with the CC finished but nothing else. Time is to All Walnuts (requires unlocking the island from Willy)... 🤔

Starting at 1:10:30 ish, if you animation cancel milking on a cow, you can increase its friendship to max in 1 day. Weird glitch I discovered the other day
@Underscore7610 ай бұрын
As far as speedruns go, that tech is banned from vanilla/glitchless categories. It is pretty nice though if you just need to boost friendship quickly in a playthrough

Really cool! IDK how much you are gonna be optimizing this tas, but I believe the cat is a few frames faster than the dog! or maybe that’s an old update lol
@Underscore763 жыл бұрын
I know, I timed it years ago for the speedrunning community but eh, I wanted the dog lol (it’s like 3 seconds+ slower, but let’s call it rng manip)

Wow, this is super fascinating Really looking forward to the commentary/script for this, since I already have a lot of questions concerning the routing, which will almost certainly be answered ^^ This game seems incredibly daunting to route for a TAS, let alone actually create the TAS AND the TAS tools, this is incredibly impressive

if you don’t mind me asking, why do you do the thing where you walk upwards in your bed before you actually sleep?
@Underscore763 жыл бұрын
Lots of rng is dependent on the player’s step count (rain, gifts, luck, etc), so I’m taking steps to manip certain outcomes. It varies on the day what I’m looking for, though rain is the biggest need for the first year

On a scale of 1 to 10, one being normal playing with rewinds and ten being every moment goes as you want, how optimized is this run? I love TASes and considering how mind numbing extensive RNG manip and seed stuff can be, it would be interesting to see the absolute optimized RNG and how fast that could be. This run is still fascinating, and I appreciate you posting it and answering some questions before the commentary stream
@RyanSwiney3 жыл бұрын
Just found this and I have to say this is very impressive (even for a TAS), I just want to know how the actual hell you were able to seemingly manipulate the RNG to be so heavily in your favor (especially the mixed seeds at the beginning like WTF) but it was an amazing run! Can’t wait for you to finish the script on this and add commentary so I can actually understand what’s happening and how lmao
@rulliantheskunk2091 Жыл бұрын
Step Manipulation During the loading screen between two days is when most RNG elements are calculated, and one of those factors is number of steps the player has taken. By taking a precise number of steps, you can manipulate the RNG in your favor.
@Phys1nk Жыл бұрын
My guess is that you’re not entirely aware of what a tas is? Tas is entirely run by the computer and the rng was manipulated to be perfect for the route which is allowed because it’s a technically a possible sequence of events in the game

This is a TAS, also known as a Tool Assisted Speedrun. Basically, you run a special second piece of software that lets you rewind and retry stuff as many times as you want, or run it in slow motion so you can do things as fast as the game can physically process them. This is useful because it can prove that certain tricks and glitches are possible before speedrunners who are people can figure out how to do them reliably, and helps to see if those glitches save enough time to be worth using. You can look up TASes for other games, too - Pokemon runs are often similarly good at RNG manipulation (controlling "luck"), and Undertale has some pretty cool glitches and stuff

Amazing TAS! Both the routing and the execution must've been painstaikingly precise. And some mechanics, like enemy swarm on a clock tick or smelting bars in the mines, are gonna be useful for casual play as well! 1. Is the fish variety manipulated in any way, seeing how you never get trash and such? 2. Isn't going in and out of bed faster than running in place?
@Underscore763 жыл бұрын
1) yup, when possible I try to manip the actual nibble timing (how long after the bobber hits the water to the ping) and then it selects what fish/trash on the frame you release the click. 2) I don’t think it matters? I guess I need to look into how steps are triggered again but I thought it just was based on the animation state progressing which still happens when running against a wall. Turn around frames I think undo your state so you’d need to walk full cycles and then lose a frame or two on each turnaround. Worth me re-exploring though
