CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Yvaine (Claire Danes) tells Tristan (in rodent form) what she knows about love.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A charmingly naïve boy from the English village of Wall travels to a magical, mythical world in search of the falling star that will help him win the heart of his true love in this fantasy adventure starring Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ricky Gervais, and Sienna Miller. For hundreds of years the massive cobblestone barrier that surrounds the sleepy English hamlet of Wall has kept the citizens of the village safe and secure from the malevolent supernatural forces that stir just outside its perimeter. When dashing Tristan Thorne (Cox) promises the fairest girl in the village, Victoria (Miller), that he will prove his love by bestowing her with a genuine falling star, his daring mission sends him on an adventure far outside the comfortable confines of Wall. In order to find the fallen star, Tristan will have to ascend the wall and venture deep into the forbidden heart of the fantastical realm known as Stormhold. Upon discovering that the meteorite he sought was in fact a beautiful girl named Yvaine (Danes), who has stumbled though space and is now being pursued by the King of Stormhold's (Peter O'Toole) sons (who long to use her cosmic powers to lay claim to the throne), Tristan vows to protect the otherworldly visitor at all costs. But the king's sons aren't the only ones in search of the luminous Yvaine; fearsome witch Lamia (Pfeiffer) has become convinced that the young girl's power can help her to achieve eternal youth and beauty. As Tristan makes his way through Stormhold on a mission to bring the star back to Wall, he will encounter a series of spectacular characters and creatures that will lead him to a fate he never imagined. Layer Cake director Matthew Vaughn serves as director and co-screenwriter for this tale of witches and pirates adapted from the novel by fantasy icon Neil Gaiman, who also produces.

"my heart, it feels like my chest can barely contain it, it's like it doesn't belong to me anymore, it belongs to you and if you wanted it, i wanted nothing in exchange, no gifts, no goods, no demonstration of devotion... nothing... but knowing you love me too. just your heart in exchange for mine" the sweetest, most touching declaration of love i've ever heard.

I bet that Claire Danes summoned up some awkward teenage romance to deliver these lines so perfectly. Not an ounce of pretension or cheesiness. She truly wriggles uneasily with the emotion she describes.

What I wouldn't give to have someone feel this way about me and me about them. I love this scene. Also when Tristan pushes her down in the bushes to hide from the traveler on the road. The way Yvaine shines and blushes when Tristan is above her is amazing. Claire's facial expressions and acting in this movie were phenomenal. In my opinion. I know it is only a movie but I long to feel this way.

I know this an old comment, but she is really selling it with a refreshingly plain sincerity. It's like she's realising it as she speaks it, so there's no great grandeur that feels false, she's just hashing out her thoughts there and then. Really clever and different take on a big love declaration scene.

This scene has stuck with me since I first saw it at the theater 14 years ago. Come back to it every now and again, it undoubtedly makes me smile from the inside out. Warms my heart to know that I've felt this and have had it felt for me. It fills me with hope to know that pureness like this feeling exists, and as cheesy as this may sound, even though it didn't work out, I am thankful "to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all." 'Night y'all.

This is easily one of the best love confessions I've ever heard in my life. Ever. In a film, or a book, or a show, or real life, or ANYWHERE. The confession itself is BEAUTIFUL, but it would just seem super cheesy if it seemed like it was forced, or the characters didn't really truly believe it. But, the thing about this confession, is that it seems so REAL. It seems like the characters/actors/writers actually believe in this confession and what Yvaine is saying. And that makes you believe it too.

Since I was young, I have always been a hopeless romantic and loved engaging in fantasy worlds of adventure and finding true love. I’ve been through some pretty rough things throughout my life and at times lost hope on love. This movie has always had a special place in my heart and today, I’ve come back watch this clip because this is the speech (edited a bit) that I plan to use as my wedding vow to a person that I have been lucky to eventually find and has made me believe that true love does exist… and that true loves wants for nothing… “Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine.” Beautiful quote. My favorite, to this day.

Though from what I could tell from other scenes this movie (haven't seen the whole movie yet, but will eventually) seems like a deliberately silly comedy akin to Princess Bride, this monologue has to be the most heartfelt description of love I've ever seen in any movie. You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know a lot about love. I've seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars. Pain, lies, hate... It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But when I see the way that mankind loves... You could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and... What I'm trying to say, Tristan is... I think I love you. Is this love, Tristan? I never imagined I'd know it for myself. My heart... It feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it's trying to escape because it doesn't belong to me any more. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I'd wish for nothing in exchange - no gifts. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine.
