Starfield Crashing when Loading Saved Game / Save File load? - RESOLVED! / Bug Fix!

If you're like me, you may have been completed distraught / bummed out / upset when you went to load your Starfield saved game and the game crashed to desktop.
The fix is simple! You can adjust your game display settings and your saved game will load just fine. Consider this problem RESOLVED!

My game will crash even before that and just an FYI, my FSR setting is off on my system but the game still crashes 3 or 4 times before it eventually loads and runs it seems to crash mostly on transferring to another area like ship landings, but sometimes just running around in the world or moving through a loading screen ie a door.

I can't load save. I tried a new game. Then i loaded my old save. It looks like it worked. But then i tried to launch an older save file it crashed again.

Mine just crashes to desktop everytime I try to load up a save, regardless if I have on upscaling or not. Just completely broken.

So the fix is updating your DLSS-g mod if you have it installed. Need the new DLSS and DLSS-G files plus the other mod Files. Update all of it and should be good to go. Fixed for me

So the problem is the autosaves , as long as you save manually when theres an autosave you should be good, and just save a lot if you can , especially when getting inside buildings and outside

And does the game still crash after you manage to load up a save, play the game, turn fsr2 back on, save and then load again? Or do you have to repeat this process of turning it off before loading up a save each time??

Mine started functioning normally again after this, best I can tell it depends on if you're in some specific missions or not.

I did have a couple of mods on mine like the burden me not no clutter, UI mods and the natural lut. Followed this and still didn't work unfortunately. Works on a new game though. Too bad for me.

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work for me unfortunately. In my case, the game crashes pretty much instantly after selecting a save. I don't even make it to the loading screen

Did you at any point use a dlss mod? My friend searched for and found nvidia's nvngx_dlss.dll file still in the starfield folder structure. They deleted the file and it worked for them

Load a file that is good then load the “corrupt save” this worked for me.

Every time I have more than 40 saves for a play through it starts crashing while loading saves. I tried your method and had no luck, but deleting half of my old saves fixed it for me. Wondering if anyone else has tried getting rid of saves fixing it? Thanks for the video.

After turning off the upscaling setting to off and reloading the latest save game where after waiting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds the game unfortunately still crashes for me... 😞 so unfortunately this wasn't the solution for me... any other ideas on how I can resolve this crash bug/glitch/issue anyone? would really appreciate the tip! thanks guys!

Nope, crashes everytime on PC. Saved yesterday, no issues. Now finished work and it doesn't work...omfg. New game works fine. I had to load older save, like very old and reload the new one. Now it works

It took a couple of tries, but this worked for me and switching between the 3 upscaling options instead of just "fsr2" and "off".

Some people have found that starting a new game and playing up till you meet Constellation has fixed this issue. Basically once you meet Constellation, do a hard save and then load up your other charter from that new game.

On xbox serries x its totally unplayable crashes all the time. Tried all the work arounds even cleared up saved games. Ended up uninstalling it. Tip never preorder a game on xbox you cant get a refund. Since 14 days passed😢

Starfield has some other problem...My day old save loads and works , my new saves that I worked a day before , the next day get all the way to the point where I can play for a second or more (Depending) on the save...Then crashes...happening after 90 hours...I did have over 400 saves but deleting them never makes the new saves work. Doesn't make much sense that some saves work and new ones do not. Having so much fun...sure hope either the next Bethesda update or Nvidia driver fixes it. (Already had FSR off...also have tried every other fix on youtube)

I have over 250 hours in the game and just this morning ran into the "Starfield Won't Launch" wtf fiasco. I tried every fix recommended in various forums and tried half a dozen fixes from YT, except running in Win 8 compatibility (!) and still nothing worked. I just now deleted all the info in the MyGames>Starfield folder except for Data and Saves, completed an uninstall and reinstall, and still no bueno-until I saw your post, "My day old save loads and works..." So I simply reloaded my exit save from yesterday, and whaddya know? Success! Good grief. It looks like it must have something to do with what OP said below, "best I can tell it depends on if you're in some specific missions". So I'm going to finish getting married on Paradiso, steal a couple of swimsuits for Andreja and Sarah, leave paradise and never look back. Many thanks, @davejohn255!

Same. I had to create new save. I was waiting on patch 1 playing baldurs gate. A week went by, so i started starfield. 20 hrs in my save won't load. Only after Sept 13 patch

My game won't even load up. I have over 300hrs in this game almost 2mil in credits level 237. And I refuse to start fresh. I guess i gotta excuse to play my ps5 now. **This is not the fix for all who encounter this problem. Disabling FSR2 does not address the crashing when attempting to load issue that was just recently introduced. It's a shame devs at Bethesda actually make a living.

It's their engine a necro'd Creation engine built from the bones of gambryo people are going to say its not the engines but in reality it is. The tech is like this for example fine tuning a combustion engine to work in a tesla the harsh reality is its not going to run well. Bethesda said their using newer resources along side the Revamped engine my guess has to be the New coding from other software doesn't want to play nice. Another example would be trying to run windows 10 on a desktop made in 1995 its not gonna run conclusion is that the processing power exceeds the Engines limits.

Go back to your last manual save. This happened to me on the Series X. I got the Petrov mission and it crashed. After I tried to reload the save; none of the last 3 Auto saves worked and so I had to play a manual save from 4hrs prior. Make sure to manual save often. Cuz none of the debug suggestions fixed the problem but reloading the manual save did.

On the series X a hard reset should work for that specific situation (or what passes for one, which is, "restart console")
