This game put people like me in a strange position. Before release we were "careful guys, it's obvious that it's going to be a dud" On release you guys were "it's the best thing ever" So we told people "actually, I seem to have been wrong, man, people seem to like it in the end, maybe you should give it a shot" A month later you were "actually, it does suck, big time" Now I'm like "I might have convinced people to buy this game because of you, you know that?!" I don't even care to have been proven right, I don't think that there is any merit seeing that obvious duds will be duds, what pisses me off is that you can't see it... Why?! What a strange phenomenon... It's almost like it's written on the box at this point: "PEGI 18, sh!tty game do not buy" but it's like you can't see it... Just strange.

Here is my personal opinion without regurgitating catchphrases from other reviews I've seen: People keep changing their minds, turning a 180 on the game with their opinions en masse, because the game is lazily crafted with a half-assed feature set that manipulates you into thinking that it has potential, so the initial impression is good (mostly through remaining traces of gameplay elements the developers were too lazy to remove, that hinted at something greater that never came to be), then you go through the content and see them as the false promises they actually were. The game is lying to you. Then after there is no more content left for the game to own up to its promises, you are being made aware that those were all lies.
@TheSeoulDojo Жыл бұрын
I like your take on the game. I agree, the inital feeling of the game is good but later down the line it starts to show its flaws.
@dominic.h.3363 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSeoulDojo It's the objective truth. THE GAME ITSELF spells out for you in text, and you hear it in NPC voiceovers what things should do, what things should be like, what effect your decisions should be having, but they don't. The gameplay is a completely different thing from the features and consequences described in text and dialogue within the game. For that information to be in sync with gameplay is not an unrealistic expectation. Therefore there is nothing subjective about the fact that the game is lying to you, that Bethesda sold you a lie. It's the objective truth.

The most baffling part of Starfield is the giant gaping holes in the game design. Ask ANYONE and they'd have told you the most fun part of BGS games was exploration, running around in Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout. They removed that dynamic entirely. A part of me has to wonder if they KNEW the game was bad and just felt they had to release it anyway, or if they are so deluded that they actually thought it was good. On top of the game design flaws, the quest design and writing are terrible, and it's not impressive technically either. The game simply fails on every front and Bethesda, in my opinion is dead.

A huge part of Starfield relies on the fanbase having absolutely 0 attention span, no intrest into the story, and intense focus on the graphical prowess. If you have played Fallout 4 before, even once, you're going to be ready to handle anything the game throws at you because it all feels like a weird Creation Engine Asset DLC , for Stafield 76 - I mean Fallout 4. The combat feels ripped right from Fallout 4, there's grenade indicators that ARE ripped right from the other game, there's literally only two enemy-types availible; Humans with guns/ Humans with Swords, Monsters with Melee, Monsters with range. There's this overarching, "4ified" feeling we get.. It's weird you know, after everyone got the jab games took this "4-fold approach" where you get basically 4 of everything, 4 endings, 4 dialouge choices (No, yes, yes but in no, no but in evil/good), 4 enemy types (ranged/melee/human/monster), 4 main quests that feel worth completing.. (less in Starfield, I'm talking about Skyrim now but basically the same game). The 4ification took place after Oblivion, the games got dumbed down even though they were being made on machines with multitudes greater processing power.. Anyone remember typing in dialouge to Fallout 2? Why is it that as we move forward, we go so, so far back? Listen to Emil speak about writing, it's fucking terrifying because that's the guy that's going to be writing Es6.. That I absolutely will not be playing, since it's a common trend now for BGS to simply blame us the gamers for not knowing how to game.

Like you I started off eager and mostly entertained by stuff like the shipbuilder and the IDEA of a 1000 planets... but gradually I just stopped engaging in parts of the game until there was nothing left but to stop playing. I stopped exploring because that poi in the distance is probably the same abandoned factory I've visited 300 times, resources can be bought from the stores, and there's nothing unique outside of the main hubs.... I stopped running with companions because they were annoying (tactically and socially)... I stopped collecting loot because that was just tedious with storage ALWAYS being an issue (and loot is ultimately useless)... I stopped collecting guns and suits because I couldn't tell much if a difference between any of them (I just stole the mark iii and a magshear, and that was that)... I stopped some quests because they were uninteresting... I stopped fighting in space because that was getting a bit samey (by pressing m quickly)... I stopped stealing, collecting, building ships because... well they're kinda useless, ones enough... I ran past enemies because they're just uninteresting bullet sponges... I stopped outpost building bc they serve no purpose at all... I stopped the pirate quest because I couldn't kiss and make up with sysdef... I gave up on the nasa quest because it became too tedious and at this point I'd run out of patience (disabled collisions and ran to the endpoint)... and I bailed out of the unity asap because there was no way I was going to loose all my ships and do all of that BS all over again.

For me, i at first was super excited and instantly thought it was a masterpiece, but over time i started to spot more and more issues with the game, then i started to get a little bored and started to wonder if it was worth my money. But then i beat the game and started doing NG+ and now i’m back to enjoying the game, though not the same as whenni first started. I think it’s a 7.5-8/10. It’s pretty great and i think it’s overhated, but it still isn’t as good as Skyrim which was a masterpiece.

@@dudemantype i don’t really know what it changed to be honest, it’s just hunting down artifacts and re-doing the game over and over again. I might be more forgiving to Starfield than most cause i always wanted a realistic space RPG that plays like Fallout 4, and being a realistic depiction of space meant barren planets. But i also liked the story’s theme about discovery and heading into the unknown. How we started off as naive explorers trying to solve a mystery, only to find out that we dragged ourselves into a conflict with inter-dimensional humans who want the artifacts for themselves, and we end up learning that those artifacts lead to a place lead to a place that connects the entire multiverse. It’s not like some quest to save the world or something, but simply us becoming curious and wanting to learn more, and we make the discovery of a lifetime, something people previously would’ve thought was fiction. That, and me wanting to be an astronaut as a kid (still kinda do) helps. And it’s insane to imagine just how much there is that we don’t know about our universe yet. Anyway, i think just having that feeling of reaching the climax of the game, and reaching the end of a game always give me a grand feeling i suppose.

After I got to New Atlantis and it just felt SOOOOOO lifeless, I had no enthusiasm to continue. I'd rather just go back and play through Mass Effect again for my space RPG fix. To be honest, Bethesda games just aren't doing it for me anymore. I put only 25 hours into Fallout 4, which was far and away the least I've ever put into a Fallout game before. Their formula is so old it's practically a corpse rotting in the ground. They may well be a lost cause. Prospects for TES6 are looking BLEAK!

Whoa, Whoa!, WHOA!!!!! This IS NOT the same Bethesda as 'before'. These are not the same people that created Skyrim, or Fallout 4. So you're just setting yourself up for disappointment by expecting Starfield to be anything like previous Bethesda games. Also, Bethesda was bought by Microsoft. So they gutted what they were originally going to make to do an Xbox game. And, fun fact, all of the UI is designed to run at 30 FPS because that's all the Xbox can reliably do with this level of graphics. That last part ment that I couldn't really do space combat. Because I was getting 90+ FPS the reticle would fly around all over the place, with the game setting turned down to '5%', and my mouse set to it's lowest DPS setting. It was frustrating to say the least. And yeah I have an Xbox controller, and it works better if I use it. But have like 30 years of gameplay experience with a keyboard and mouse, and I don't like playing with a controller. Thankfully, a modder fixed this issue by coming out with an update the the UI to get it to work with 120 FPS.

I like Starfield. However, I’m not in love with it. It’s just a game. So this isn’t me defending Bethesda. I’m a 43 year old man who loves astronomy, not Bethesda. So here goes …. I’ve watched a TON of negative videos about Starfield and reviews. The actual critiques are 99% true. Like, I don’t see anyone lying(I don’t know why you have to get flying to doctors. I’m on ngp9 and maybe went to 3 doctors during 9 play through). Critiques like, you can’t fly to a planet, no cars or other forms of travel, tons of loading screens. These are all true. But the extreme negativity of what’s being pushed out doesn’t match the entertainment of the game. To me, it is a let down from extremely high expectations with how Bethesda pushed the game, but this isn’t a “horrible” game. Starfield is being talked about as if it’s “The Day Before”. That’s a HORRIBLE unplayable game. I just feel the warranted anger is misguided to gameplay instead of where it should belong which is “you set crazy expectations Bethesda and didn’t deliver”. There is a difference. What I love about starfield….a game exist where I can dock my ship to a pirate’s ship, take them out, and fly to an unknown planet only to land and enjoy the ocean with my girl. Then hop back in the ship, go sell it, then fly to a western town and become a deputy without them knowing my prior crimes. I can find a secret Batman-like layer, with lore and history, and due to me already having Superman like powers, I can give this batman(Mantis) suit to my companion. We can travel the universe saving an old vessel with humans that’s been flying on it for 200 years and then land back on our secret outpost with the rest of the crew to discuss what is our next adventure? Should we become a part of the pirates we ripped off or should i get arrested and go undercover to take the pirates out once and for all. or should we rid a forbidden snow planet of an alien species far worse than Xenomorphs? im open minded. so im totally fine with someone not liking or being able to immerse themselves into the game like i can who loves astronomy. i just feel even with the correct negative things ppl dont like about the game, there are far far FAR worse than this. i think its a total mixture of 3 things 1. bethesda making grand expectations they didnt deliver on 2. snowball effect - its as if its now the cool thing to do to post tons of negative views about starfield (not saying this uploader. my first time watching and he seems like a cool guy) 3. You get more views bashing starfield. id give starfield a 7 to 7.5. that isnt an amazing score. but the way its being destroyed online one would think its an easy 1 or 2 score.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't that what happens with EVERY SINGLE GAME that you've ever played? At the end of the day though, no publicity is bad publicity. Even content like this supports the game because it is increasing the exposure it receives. If you actually wanted to hurt the game's success, you'd be better off ignoring its existence entirely.
