Amendment to what I say in the spaceflight chapter - you CAN grav jump to a new system to escape mid-combat. I cannot believe it took me this long to figure it out, I could have avoided SO MUCH DAMAGE lol. The issue was I was trying to escape to a different planet in the same system, which is considered fast traveling, not jumping. Fast traveling is prohibited while taking damage.

Does Starfield play more like Skyrim or Outer Worlds? Skyrim is a real deal RPG to me. In every sense. Outer Worlds was more linear (for lack of a better example), in my opinion. I enjoyed it, but it was nowhere close to the openness of Skyrim.

I expect this will be the only video I watch about Starfield until I'm a couple hundred hours deep in it. Thank you so much for being spoiler-free! Based on your review, it seems this is exactly what I expected it to be, and I'm going to try to avoid another second of footage until I'm at least 100 hours deep into it! I'm usually the person who's always scrounging the wiki, but this is one I've been waiting for since my days of Skyrim mod dev. If there's one thing I learned from Skyrim... it's hoarding everything you find in the world. Bigger world just means a bigger hoard 🤣

Thanks for this video! I really appreciate the effort to avoid spoilers. If you don't mind I do have a few questions... Out of curiosity, were you playing with gamepad or mouse and keyboard? Have you played Star Citizen? If so, how does this experience compare to what they have planed for when that releases? And as a fan of Elite: Dangerous, it's disappointing to hear you do not manually land and the only flying you do is in combat... but are starship-focused occupations viable? For example, I enjoy just flying around Elite in my Space Truck (the "Haulin' Oates") making food deliveries to planets and spaceports. Is that something to do here or not so much? Thanks!
@Jadziax
@Jadziax Жыл бұрын
Mouse and keyboard! I have played Star Citizen, but not much, so I don't feel qualified to comment on that. As for starship focused occupations, yes, you can earn money hauling cargo around, though it wouldn't be the same experience because it's really not a relaxing flying sim the way I think I expected it to be, so it would feel a bit back-and-forth and not as relaxing as say, hauling stuff in snowrunner or other sims. Love your space truck name :)

Great review! Finally an honest reviewer who says what she thinks without compromise. I will be grabbing this game tomorrow. I love sci-fi and RPG's. 2:35 I agree. I had a funny experience today related to this. I was running a Rangers' mission and had to go into a city to meet a character. On the way into this big building with lots of security, I ran by this couple who were talking. Somehow it triggered a mini mission and replaced the mission I was on (bug likely). I didn't catch the switch out and followed the wrong blue dot mission marker which led me to a room with a security holding cell with another character in the cell. I interacted with him which triggered security who stormed in a killed me. : P

I've had a number of glitches. One was bad enough I had to trash an hour of gameplay an load an earlier save. I was going into the missions where I'm supposed to be infiltrating the Crimson Fleet for UC. Well, there's a door that's supposed to unlock once you've accepted the assignment, and the next step on your mission is on the other side... I think I'm supposed to talk to someone. But the door glitched and remained inaccessible. I was trapped in a small area with no way out. After several reloads to different points and always getting the same result, I had to go back to a save before the story arc started. Very annoying. The other two were minor. In the Dream Home arc, the guy you're supposed to talk to at the bank about paying off your mortgage won't talk to me about it. The other was simply a creature I killed that did a ragdoll flip and launched itself off the planet. It just tumbled through the air, up and out of sight.

I’m only about 6 hrs in but unfortunately so far I’m not feeling it. I don’t find the story, characters, or universe compelling and most things feel tedious and confusing. I didn’t find the graphics to be great at all. The beginning of the story actually feels a bit like a copy of the best sci-fi game ever, Mass Effect which nailed all those notes. Looking forward to phantom liberty, hoping the game grows on me in the meantime.

A lot of the mechanics feel very No Man's Sky like - resource collection, base building, research, space combat. I enjoy that but would *LOVE* to know if there is more going on from a mechanics point of view. The story and world aspects seem much richer, which might help to relieve some of the sameiness that you can get in massive open world space games.

Sounds to me you should give Outer Wilds and its DLC a go based on your preferences. And make it a let's play! You'd love it. We'd love it. Don't read up about it though, as you *WILL* get spoilers you don't want. For a fairly spoiler free review of it, check out the video "Cohh Gives His Thoughts About Outer Wilds" instead. The story, which you will uncover along the way - unlike Death Stranding where everything is revealed towards the end - is absolutely amazing, and it boggles my mind that "just" an indie game can outdo AAA titles as far as story goes.

Having played through The Outer Worlds multiple times I wouldn’t compare it to that at all, aside from being an aRPG set it space. TOW is a much smaller hub based tongue-in-cheek space adventure that’s constantly winking at the player throughout. Starfield is not like that. Take some aspects similar to No Man’s Sky, but base it in a more grounded realistic aesthetic like Interstellar or The Expanse and then wrap it around a massive open world(s) RPG vastly bigger than Skyrim + Fallout combined. This game is ridiculously HUGE. I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface.

I have been playing this game since day one too. I feel like all the hype is okay, but as much as I love the game, there are some faults too. It is really vanilla, even though they claim it is MA rating. No one will mention that in reviews, but it is true. Fallout 4 was more mature than this one, and this one will take modders to make it what its claimed to be. I am not even talking about skin. I am talking about the talking, combat (no damage like in Fallout), and no mature themes. Call of duty has more "blood and gore" as they claim, and that game is for teens. But that aside, I am loving just making a spaceship and testing out how it looks. I feel like there is more design in that than in the character creation though. The body slide is the generic Fallout 4 one, before mods fixed that. And even less so, really. I am sad that there are no cute outfits in the future and no long hair. I get the long hair thing, because of the helmets, as people tell me. But I don't wear a helmet for more than 50% of the game. So, that is not a good excuse. And why no skirt or dresses? The poncho looked like a giant paper bag someone put on her. I mean, it was bad. I am a 3D artist and I love to make outfits, so I am hoping that mods will fix that flaw in time. The story is good... so far. But I don't like how you are kinda forced to use "FLIRT" option at the worst times, to keep from getting locked out of the romance and being "Friend zoned." Did you notice that too with a certain NPC. You talk to her and she is in a really deep part of her story and you are given the choice of "It will be okay" "Get over it" "I love you" It felt unearned and just threw off my immersion. But I took the flirt, so that I could continue her arc. So, all in all. This game is fun. it is just really vanilla and I hope they continue to tweak it as time goes by. But really, Modders will fix it... as usual.

@@Jadziax I’m still enjoying it. The skill tree takes forever to get deep into! But maybe that’s ok. Maybe I made my character too much of a generalist at the start. Thanks for the response! Cheers

Great video, thanks! The Riker photoshop joke hat me rolling on the floor 😀 What do you think how invasive perks like Dream Home, Kids Stuff, Wanted, etc. are for the gameplay? Is the debt a huge burden? Do the headhunters from Wanted annoy you constantly or is it more like a pleasant surprise every now and then?

I agreed with your review for the most part and this video was excellently done!! I would disagree with the NPC models. While I agree that they look 'good' far too many characters looked similar and I would have preferred a bit more variety, but that is really just a nitpick. The characters that matter (main and important side story NPC's) were unique and done well. I also really would have liked more of a simulation experience with flying our ships, something akin to Elite. I agree I wouldn't want or need to experience an hours long traversal to another world inside a star system, but a 'Super Cruise' mode that would still involve some control and piloting while making the trip in a few minutes would have been enjoyable as well as the presence of stellar phenomenon to explore and view (pulsars, black holes, nebulae etc). As someone who has played a number of Bethesda games prior to this one, it still suffers from the same issue with dumb companion NPC's! I wish there was even a rudimentary way to tactically order your Companion during combat so they would at least stay out of your way! Even Mass Effect had a system where you could direct an NPC to move to a spot and possibly provide covering fire. Maybe in a mod or DLC? I agree though that this is at least the BEST Bethesda game yet, and I'm really excited for the potential of new DLC and Mods that will only increase the size and scope of this massive game!

Playing Starsector, but if I had a system that could run this I am certain I'd be somewhere in the field making a living :)
