Wow. Thanks. This is not just retelling of big rulebook, but actually "this is how you use it in a game"

Thank you. I was so overwhelmed by the info in the book. I'm still not entirely confident that I understand the computer system , but I definitely a much better grasp on it now. Great video.

You're welcome! I agree, the computer rules are a bit of a mess. Our video on Hacking (to be published later this week) might help fill in a few gaps too.

For some reason this was a bit more digestible than just reading it. Thank you!

This video was SUPER helpful. I’m playing an SFS game tomorrow with a pregen Envoy who has a computer and I had NO idea how to use it. 😅

Fantastic video! I always wonder how does it work if a player wants to have a control module to the starship? like doors,lights,PA system etc etc
@HowItsPlayed5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Every starship comes with a basic computer of a Tier that is one half that ship's level, and I don't think you would need a control module for things like doors and lights as those would be considered "Basic Functions." But I think essentially, having a computer to manage your ship would be no different than having a computer to manage the basic features of your home. And I can definitely see how installing an AI in a player's ship could be fun!

Thanks for the suggestion! It's on the "to do" list, but might be a while until I get to it. There's a lot to unpack with Starship Combat.

can you have a computer provide a bonus to professions, computers or even like engineering ( such as getting information about stuff)?
@tabletopgamingwithwolfphototec Жыл бұрын
Yes, but the computer has to have the information & has to be used.

thanks to the party that im playing with in starfinder, i find my self without a role as a mechanic, their is a player that has a higher engineer skill then me and higher computer skills then i do, that leaves me with out a roll in the party to do, any suggestions?
@HowItsPlayed4 жыл бұрын
That can be rough. I'm guessing the other player is an Operative? Maybe try and having them be a gunner and let you handle Engineering. Might be more "bang for the buck" even if you sacrifice due to the skill difference.

How exactly do computers let players use skill checks they don't have? Seems I missed that rule.
@HowItsPlayed5 жыл бұрын
This is accomplished with Control Modules (page 215). You connect the computer to another device and it can use that device with a total bonus equal to 2.5 x Tier. So, a Tier 2 computer connected to a rich database might be able to make Culture Checks at +5. Or if it's attached to a camera, the computer can make visual Perception Checks at +5. Or if attached to an enercycle, it makes Piloting checks at +5.. and so on. Also, installing the computer with the Artificial Personality upgrade (page 216) allows the computer to make Bluff, Diplomacy, intimidate and Sense Motive checks at 2 x Tier.

I have watched a lot of these videos now and holy crap Starfinder is just like the 3.5 ruleset in that it is way too crunchy and rule heavy. So many phases to keep track of especially in starship combat. Makes my head hurt. This system is better suited to a computer game rather than a table-top game. Don't get me wrong, the setting is my absolute favorite but these rules are too complex.
