December 25 2023 - I walked alone this chilly morning in the forested trail beside my house. As I walked I reflected on the passing of my wife and best friend who was taken from ovarian cancer in October 2013. Walking out of the hospital that rainy morning with only her belongs to my car at 5am was one of the most difficult things I had ever done. I never knew many people in my entire life that I felt as close to as her. Coming home to a dark, cold house without her to brighten everything was a time of utter dispair as I walked a fine line between wanting to live and wanting to join her. To my sweetheart, listening to this song as I think of all the memories that only I carry forward - may you await my return when my time comes that I may look into your eyes and truly smile once again.

When I was working on a Masters degree, there was a wizened old professor who was notoriously difficult in his grading (and personality-wise, just wasn't very warm or friendly). We usually showed up in the lecture hall early because of a gap in the schedule, and we were playing some study songs on KZbin while we worked and talked. Our prof walks in, hears the music, and asks if any of us like Enya. He pulled up this song and his face just absolutely lit up while we all sat back to enjoy the music and admire the beautiful snow. It was really sweet to see. I stayed in touch with him after graduation and he became a bit of a mentor to me. I wouldn't have approached him if I'd thought he was as standoffish as I'd previously believed him to be - but thanks to this song, I knew he had a soft side! Music has an incredible way of bridging gaps with people we might not otherwise connect with.

I think you knew how meaning she was for you. You lived togheter for such a long time; perhaps, like most of us, you were not able to tell her how important she was for you, but I guess, you both had many good reasons for being a couple. I lost my love two years ago, when I was 60 and I know that pain, which has many faces. But you got the luck, of having her besides you, for many years; too many ones spend their lives in loneliness. Remember all the good times you spent togheter; for me, every smile, every glance, every tear, every laugh, every hug, every kiss, since the first, are like tattoes on my brain. And I imagine she's still here by me. Good luck, stranger.

Enya sings of Heaven - the Home of not this world - the home back with our maker. It's more about being with him, than being in a place. Like when you feel your parents love as a kid, visiting the places where you lived then brings the memories. But it's still not the place, it was the love of your mother, and father. That is, in case you had such loving parents. Those of you who didn't have - God is that mother and father you were bereft of as a kid. And though he's fully that, that's not all of him, there's more. I don't even know all of it yet. Just I know there's more. Heaven calls us to that party, to find that more, and more, and... ... Enya sings of the life which the Bible tells us. She has made the Irish Gaelic version of Our Father, the famous Christian prayer. Just she sings mostly of the moods, emotions Bible awakes - her talent is such she can sing about them even in invented languages :)

Listen to the angel voices. They speak to all of us. Not just songs and words of comfort, but urgings to get us up and do something each day to help counter the hell on earth, but creating little pockets of heaven on it. If evil can destroy the good and extinguish the light, then good can destroy the evil and set ablaze the light. May the light of the Star of Earendil, And of Eru Ilúvatar, and the Valor, continue to inspire us and cause us to take up the swords of reason and peace and love, the three things that the darkness is powerless to overcome . . . if only we arise and protect what we love.

We camped at the lake and went to an all night drive in. He just packed in every day as much stuff as a4yr old boy and a 7yr old big brother could take. I just recently attended a wedding that was held outdoors in a park under a stand of trees. They had brought battery powered speakers and something to play music on, and much of the music they used would have been familiar to fans of Tolkien and fantasy in general. It was fall, and the trees, and the ground beneath them, were covered in golden leaves - I felt like I was in Lothlorien. When the processional music for the bride began to play, and it was this song...my eyes filled. Many people cry at weddings, but because of the importance to them of the people getting married. But I reacted to the surprise of hearing this song. This glorious song that plays the harp-strings of my heart with fingers soft as velvet, but that pierce me like a mithril arrow.

In winter 1977 at 14 i'd get up early to deliver newspapers around our neighborhood, in a city in west virginia. I remember stepping out at sunrise among total White. Houses , trees and sidewalks covered , not a foot print out there, i was the 1st up as i walked around the complete silence that several inches of white snow creates since it is a buffer of sounds.
