#Stargate #StargateSG1
Stam Fine Reviews the 1994 sci-fi action film Stargate, an ordinary film that later launched multiple TV series. Stargate, just Stargate (no SG-1, Atlantis or Universe) is about a Stargate, which more or less does what it says in the tin, basically a portal to transport you to another world. Directed by Roland Emmereich and starring Kurt Russell and James Spader. So, as someone who has, to date, only seen this rather 'eh' film from this franchise (not great, not terrible, in the middle), Stargate (the movie) is like taking a ride across town in the middle seat of the back row of a small family hatchback- tolerable so long as it doesn't drag on too long and there arem't too many speed bumps. But, I liked the potential of the idea behind the movie enough to finally commit to giving the series a try at some point.

Stargate SG-1 is such nice comfort TV sci-fi. It's predictable, but its still so fun. If you're looking to get into SG-1, I do recommend it

Totally dig the film. Fun, interesting take on ancient Egypt, and doesn't take itself too seriously. It wasn't trying to be 2001 or any other "serious " SF film, it was more the "Star Wars" style of entertainment.

I appear to have much fonder memories of the film than most. As for the passing on of viruses, the folks inhabiting that planet were actually descendants of ancient Egyptians so they were probably already immune to most of the legacy viruses that the soldiers brought. If anything, the soldiers from Earth might have been in more danger in terms of pathogens... but who the hell cares? It was a fun popcorn movie for it's time. It wasn't supposed to be super sophisticated like Blade Runner or 2001.

It was my favorite movie at the time and I still remember VERY fondly renting this by walking the 2-3 mile round trip to the video store along a state highway on a half-day off from school in 4th grade when I was only nine years old... (I can't remember if I actually called my mom and asked permission or just figured on asking forgiveness once she got home but after that I definitely made that walk MANY more times until I finally got my license). They also rented out Sega CDs (the whole system) and on another half-day when I was 10 I used my old Radio Flyer wagon to roll one home.

I have to admit I like Stargate, it doesn’t take itself too seriously and without it we might not have got Independence Day. Worth mentioning there is a Director’s Cut of Stargate, which fleshes out the characters somewhat.

My late mum didn't like the movie; but then again, I believe she didn't like the direction Kurt Russell's choice of roles was going, plus she was a great fan of Richard Dean Anderson. I personally don't care either way about the film and the tv series.

You basically expressed my feelings about this movie: I really liked the idea and the setup, but the reveal of Ra and the villains was less than my imagination would have hoped for. I still like this movie, but it certainly is less than it could have been. Then again, it's a Roland Emmerich movie. What were we expecting, really?

It's funny that the series have become what people think of rather than the movie. To my mind SG1 felt like another kinda throaway series. I remember there were a ton of sci fi shows on around that time, I took it as just another one and never watched it. I remember the film mostly fondly though. Wasn't great but I enjoyed it. I remember nothing about it though, even now I've watched the video and seen the clips lol I don't remember any of it

The series started badly, didn't find its feet until episode 6 which was the first decent episode and the first four episodes were a massive disappointment as I loved the movie. It took the Season One DVD Boxset Release before I got into SG-1. TBF I could say the same about Buffy the Vampire Slayer - I loved the movie and didn't get into the tv show until I watched the DVD Boxset of season 1. But that was much later, like 2010 later :) In the 90s my go to Sci-Fi shows were Sliders and VHS's of Classic Dr Who.

Hello. I don't understand what Doctor Daniel Jackson has solved at the beginning of the movie? They have already saved 6 symbols to the computer. (Doctor Catherine Langford said we had come this far. They were looking for symbol 7) Wouldn't it be okay if they entered each symbol in the circle one by one? There were already 20 symbols in the circle. Doctor Catherine Langford "General West. Jackson designated the seventh symbol." says. The seventh symbol is not that hard to find. It was found by trial and error method. I couldn't understand here.

This review is like all conversations I now have with an old childhood friend turned film critic. We'll see a film together, I'll love it, and after he'll list all its redeaming features as reasons why it's utter trash. I loved this film when it came out, watched it in the cinema multiple times, purchased it on LD as soon as it was released. Listening to this review, makes me think you watched a high-school's drama department's re-enactment based on someone's verbal retelling. I swear what you reviewed wasn't what I bask in roughly once a year.

Stargate grossed $196.6 million worldwide against a production budget of $55 million. It was a pretty big hit - No it didn't make the Top 10 of 1994 but it wasn't far off the number 10: Clear and Present Danger at $215,887,717 worldwide. Star Trek Generations came out in 1994 and only made $118 million worldwide {yes on a lower budget of just 35 million}. Star Trek First Contact would come out two years later and make 146 million dollars worldwide yet that film's considered a massive hit whilst people seem to have forgotten just how big Stargate was!

When wokeism reviews old movies. The actress playing Sha'uri was over 18 and at no point is it indicated that she was a younger female or child bride, and in deference to your SJW claims, her being a sexual gift is flatly denied by the main character, along with there being an uneasy tension of "Is this right? Oh, no, no it is not." Daniel Jackson wasn't sick, he had allergies, which was clearly explained early on in the movie, well before travel to a distant world. You'll have to excuse the lack of masking considerations and viral transmissions considering this was a science fiction movie released in 1994. WTF dude. Regarding smoking cigarettes, that was something of the times, how dare media of its time portray what went on! HOW DARE YOU? As for the ages of the "child warriors," it is clearly meant that they were in teenage years, nearing young adulthood. When offered a cigarette, the main "child" character coughs and refuses to smoke more. Gee, what a powerful message to get young people to smoke. Are you special? And the comparison of the movie against charging your electric powered car vs operating your iron lung? First, this was 1994. Rechargeable batteries for your CD PLAYER was the best thing we had. Second, higher voltage electric circuits for your home appliances were definitely a thing before this movie. Or do you think there's some magical new technology at play for charging a Tesla at home? lol. It's totally fine you didn't like the movie, but this review is ridiculous and worse written activism crap vs the actual script. You should be shamed.

I don't care, I like the film sort of empty guilty pleasure of mine, a kind of spiritual successor to George Lucas's Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Whenever Stargate is brought up, I instantly remember how the film appeared to be heavily advertised on E! Entertainment Television way back in 1994. Its like I can't ever think of the 1994 Stargate without thinking of the marketing blitz E! had coinciding with the films release. I wouldn't mind checking the film out again because it's been probably 15 or so years since I've even bothered. When SG1 was out, I had little interest in it due to not being a huge fanatic of Stargate to begin with. In addition to the fact that the late 90s had plenty of syndicated sci fi shows to begin with. Never really heard much negatively regarding the series, but personally its now way too much of a deep dive for me.
