NCO's get their own room, at most locations. Locations with limited barracks or housing would be locations in the Area Of Responsibility (AOR). In other words, Deployed. And you pledge allegiance to a flag because of what it stands for.

One concern with colonizing other worlds: If you can only move one person every 6 seconds through the Stargate, including their equipment and supplies, you could only move 380 people through every time you dial the colony world. You would need to move millions for it to make any dent in the Earth's resource requirement. You couldn't move that many via the SGC. A few hundred or thousand in camps to exploit rare resources (Naquada, naquadria, trinium, etc.) could work, but you would need bulk colony transports for real colonies.

You could just do it slowly. Not everything has to happen all at once. Truthfully, limiting the growth at first may even be a good idea. We all know how Rimworld games go when you have too many colonists too soon to have set up fully. And while it is true that more people means more workers, it also means more mouths to feed from whatever food and water sources are available. As an alternative that could work, have a group of workers that live and eat on our side of the gate, with just a bare bones crew on the other side to watch and keep guard of it for a few weeks while it is all set up, though even that itself is not perfect.

@@Hauwke764 to move 1 million people at that rate, which is probably faster than you could sustain, you'd need to open the gate almost 3000 times. And you'd need to move 10s of millions per year to start lowering the Earth's population. I wasn't even considering the problems with settling people, though unless you find a world at our tech level or above that was abandoned you'd have to build the infrastructure too. So moving them slowly doesn't actually fix the problem. Even with a world ready to accept them, which is unlikely at best, you would be able to move people fast enough. Alternatively, you could spread any advanced tech you get and solve real world problems with it. The Earth isn't really overpopulated, we just don't use tech in more expensive ways which could support more people. Then there's the huge number of areas where it's impossible to support people due to war constantly destroying stuff.

You’d move the Gate to the surface and build something like a passenger/cargo plane on treads to move hundreds a minute with materials to create infrastructure. If nothing else, the military is *excellent* at moving people in large numbers in tight spaces. Fit 40-some people into a truck the size of the smallest U-Haul truck, it isn’t comfortable...but it does have the advantage that you can fall asleep standing up and not fall down.

Im surprised the SSgt isnt promoted to Lt to at least have officer rank over other enlisted personnel, particularly given a PhD and experience of things for alien cultures which may necessitate commanding others who dont have that knowledge.
