I think the Aschen are sensitive sound just because they probably don't hear much of in their lives. They are advanced enough that there is unlikely much ambient noise, and I doubt they like music.

I was surprised nobody suggested they go through with the trade and then take the place over. They had very small numbers and little internal security. Just tell the marines they're yahtzee analogs and get out of the way. Then have a darker colored guy call the other side to ask for a cease fire.

The problem is, even if Earth decided to ally themselves with the Eurondans, their other technologically advanced partners (e.g., the Tok'ra, the Nox, the Tollan and the Asgard) would quickly voice their disapproval.

That's a fair point, working with space Nazis would be a big no from all their allies when the Eurondans are clearly space Nazis! If you're willing to work with obvious space Nazis you become a collaborator and they have their advanced tech as a way to make you a collaborator. What if in exchange for say the shield tech that could protect earth from a Goa'uld attack they required earth to exterminate all non-whites because seeing white Earth people working along side non-whites is offensive for them. So genocide all non-whites or no advanced shield tech to protect Earth from a Gao'uld armada! Which do you choose? Once you start sliding down that slippery slope it difficult to stop! The best thing Jack did in the episode was closing the iris essentially making Eurondan Hitler kill himself despite being warned not to follow them back to Earth. I'm surprised that after finding out the Eurondan were space Nazis Jack didn't order Sam to download as much Eurondan tech as possible, or steal a storage device containing it before refusing them any more heavy water and leaving.

@robkemp598 yeah very true, I guess I would say, the SGC probably felt like we already had better tech although not likely buildable yet ,with the full asgard database and Atlantis database it was already gonna take many years to decipher and start replicating what they could do and with so many worlds we already dealt with ,and any potential new off world earth claimed planets to potentially set up ,the breeders were likely low on the list to be revisited, but it has been years since the show ended so they very well may have gone back to the planet in the years we have missed.

0:54 If I had to guess, I think that Eurondans just said that the enitre planet was named Euronda, since, in their eyes their were the only people who deserved to own and live on that planet. I would assume other nations would disagree. Or alternatively, opposite thing happened, and Euronda the country addopted name of the planet as their own name as part of their ideological agenda

Honestly, SG1 should have grabed the disk with technology data before their left. At that point they were enemies, and stealing technology from enemy is justiable. Or alternatively, since they were so desperate, just pretend that they were still friends, give them a little water to last a day or two,, take the data, and just either ghost them, or lanch an invasion on their base wile pretending to deliver more water, and take over the base. I get why it wasn't done as such from the storytelling standpoint. But strategically, I think SG1 could have played their cards a bit different to get both technologies and kill the space nazis

That’s a really good point. Though I think they found it out too late. Like the base was falling apart when they found out so they didn’t really have time to come up with a plan like that.

The stargate on Earth was discovered near the end of WW2? Perhaps I just understood it badly (I am not a native English speaker). But if that's what you said, then I have to correct you. According to the original stargate movie (and fandom wiki), the stargate was found in Giza in the year 1928. WW2 began in 1939 and it ended in 1945. So it is definitely not near the end of WW2. However, as a whole, your videos are great, I like them very much!

11 11 "The Torment of Tantalus" Jonathan Glassner Robert C. Cooper October 3, 1997 SG-1 goes to Heliopolis (PB2-908) and recovers Dr. Ernest Littlefield, who went through the Stargate in 1945 (using a standard diving dress as a spacesuit) and never returned. Daniel nearly stays behind to study a 'book' detailing the meaning of human existence, left behind by the Four Great Races. (pasted from wikipedia) earth first tried using the stargate at the end of the ww2 hopefully as an war implication but after they thought Ernest had died they stopped using the stargate until the first movie in 1994

What's wrong with eugenics? Imagine if we were able to instantly know to a reasonable degree of certainty how smart of kids will be, if they would have any genetic disorders, etc.
@sg-24
@sg-24 2 жыл бұрын
Looking beyond the part where this has been used by some of the worst people in history to commit some of the worst crimes in history, I think the main problem with eugenics is that it opens a big can of worms. Science fiction has show all the problems that can occur with eugenics. Gattaca for example had to protagonist adopt a fake identity because he's wasn't genetically modified and he was treated like a second class citizen. Star Trek has deals with this problem a lot. From the Eugenics Wars (where enhanced humans tried to take over the world), that episode in VOY were B'Elanna tried to changed how her baby would look, even DS9 had an episode were Worf said parents would feel the need to has their kids modified to keep up with others is genetic modification was legal in the Federation. For me the biggest problem with eugenics is that is allows people to change others without their permission and removes a persons right to choose. For example, I had a learning disability. I've had it since birth. If eugenics was allowed my parents could have gone in and fixed that. But that learning disability is part of who I am, if that part of me was changed I may not been the same person. It also leads to people being born into their profession. Oddly enough Man of Steal showed this off. I can see an argument being made for people being born with more major disability's, like blindness, but it's a real slippery slope.

In my belief? Nothing really.. Things like 'fairness' or overzealous job qualifications are technically all in the realm of maligned unwishful thinking and haven't really been experimented with on a large scale. So humanity doesn't really _know_ if it's okay with it or not. It also depends on the type of eugenics? (do we mean superhero style 'casually alter a grownup' or do we mean 'make an embryo and wait DECADES for results') If it required actual childbirth and raising a new child: It'd require actively making the effort to care about something that takes literal decades to produce results, which immediately kills arguments like 'jimmy's kid has it so I want it' because convincing a doctor to make you a custom child is already a mountain of effort and paperwork and contracts and very much isn't a "buy it at the store consumerist" solution. And it'd require an entire society to actively care for decades of their life(I.E: it'd have to be a VERY strict religion type culture thing where your entire life revolves around extreme kneejerk disapproval of posthumanism), in a world where people just wanna go home and drink a beer after working all day. soooo..... uhhh... It might work. 😁 I don't believe humans have the ability to put effort into caring about most things for more than a few days before giving up. We don't really know how openly receptive or violent or segregative people are going to be because we've _never actually tried_ sci-fi-golden-age level eugenics, we've only tried unnoticeable insignificant level things like mid-pregnancy vaccines. For all we know most people might not even bat an eye and it'd be something like, _'oh you have 173 IQ at 12 years old?... meh.. who cares. This is oReilly autoparts you need to be 19'_

@@Biaanca5036 This brings up an interesting point. Currently, we have pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and Start Trek will practice genetic engineering for serious health issues. In both respects real world pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and the genetic engineering for serious medical issues are both types of eugenics (in a broad sense). I really don't see a problem if are able to screen sperm / eggs for a possible range of genetic issues and even intelligence then implant the cells we want.

Main problem with eugenics is we suck at them. Idiots keep trying to use it to make everyone look the same instead of using it to deal with hereditary diseases.
