I like the Unity, I think it's an interesting concept. But I always liked the non-human looking Aliens in Stargate; they're rarely used and give some sense of mystery, something we simply cannot understand because we're too different. That doesn't mean that I necessarily want to see them again, but it's nice to see beings like this in a show where almost every other Alien speaks English for no discernable reason.
@sg-24 Жыл бұрын
@God_Is_An_Athesit well of course every alien speaks english. Why wouldn't they speak a language that wouldn't be developed for like 1,000 years after they were taken off Earth.

Unity as energy shapeshifters cavorting about the galaxy makes for an interesting opportunity for characters. The way they come to consciousness sounds like a vehicle for discussing personhood as well.

Samantha Carter is not a geologist either, she is an astrophysist with combat training, so she might have just been wrong or expressed it badly. It is ok not to understand what she meant because she didn't. ( Lets be honest the script writer didn't )

@mahatmarandy5977 I kind of wonder if over time the writers tried to distance themselves from the backstories of the characters from the movie more and more.
@mahatmarandy5977 Жыл бұрын
@@sg-24 I sorta don’t think so. I mean, Catherine was getting name-checked into the 6th or 7th season, and whatsisname from the movie who died in the first proper episode kept coming back - why do I keep forgetting his name? Yeesh - and the season 8 finale revisits the movie, so, no, I don’t think they wanted to distance themselves. It was just natural that as time passed and the show’s universe expanded, it’d be harder and harder to tie things back into the original movie. If I had to guess, I would say they didn’t use his wife again because they couldn’t really think of anything for her to do. Which is fair. They didn’t want to play Jack as a brroding, introspective tragedy, he had to keep moving forward. I mean, even though I would have liked to see her again, I can’t think of anything for her to do either. I just like the idea of two people who clearly still love each other, but have so much shared tragedy that they can’t get past it.

I feel like they could easily make a stargate series about just like idk sg 13 or so running parallel to sg1. Could run a third parallel about the lower level crew of sg command. Dealing with their own minor problems caused by technologies and illnesses and diplomats brought through the stargate. Have actual main plot episodes as sub plots or background events.

I always assumed that their bodies were kinda a hybrid of an naturally occuring aura quartz, silicone, and naquada blend. Aura quartz isn't natural on earth, the only way we know how to make it is to effectively electroplate natural quartz crystals with gold or another metal that bonds to the external of the crystal to give it a higher conductivity. Adding in the silicon to allow it to more easily reshape it's matter, but if they're able to use energy to heal it'd make sense that they can restructure the shape of the atomic bonds of the crystals so they may not need to be as light weight. The naquada would have allowed them to pass as Goa'uld or as Jaffa. Allow them to harness lower levels of electrical fields. But it's just as easily said that they're a non native material that simply exists in nature out on a world with a lower emf and greater quantities of minerals from which the crystals would spawn. I mean, for all we know there might be bismuth like pools of heat that churn and allow the crystals to grow and become a body for other Unity to inhabit and thus move and join the groups.
@sg-2410 күн бұрын
I didn’t know that about aura quartz, and I love that naquada idea, it would fit so well into the rest of the world.

I loved this episode but Sam is a physicist and clearly knows nothing about geology. This was one of those episodes that portrayed Sam as mirraculously being an expert in every scientific field. On the plus side I love the crystaline people. I would have loved to see them in relation to the replicators. Being energy beings it could be possible for them to take control of replicator bodies.
@God_Is_An_Atheist Жыл бұрын
iirc, she was studying the crystals because she got some weird energy readings. So it makes sense to have her study them, considering that the SGC is always looking for new energy sources that could power a weapon or be turned into one. A geologist can't tell you much about the energy of these crystals, they could tell you how it formed and what it's made of. If they wouldn't have found out that these are living beings, it would've made total sense to let Carter do the initial study at the SGC and let the geologists (and maybe scientists from other fields, depending on the properties of the crystal) work on it later at Area 51.

Now after watching this video I feel like I know less about them than I knew before watching. There are so many question I have about the evolution and reproduction, is unity actually the planet (magnetic field) and each crystal just a small portion of that giant consciousness?!? If crystal get they consciousness on that planet would that not mean we would end up with somehow of a steven universe/crystal gem situation, where we would have different types of crystal gem stones with different powers? If crystal get their consciousness from the magnetic field could we not just grow more unity crystals in a laboratory set on that planet? Also most crystals are underground, does that mean most of their race is actually underground? could it be that there are a bunch of different unity races living on that planet that don't know about each other cause they are on different levels of the planet crust? Also they are our allays, how does that work, when they are sensitive to magnetic fields? How do they help us fight the goa'ult when they can survive limited time on planets with stronger or weaker magnetic fields (don't care about the training that can make them survive longer, still makes no sense). All our technology creates magnetic fields, basically using any device in their presence hurts them. Too many plot holes with this race, if they ever reintroduce them they have to redcone stuff.

@crowbar413 yeah, after reading your comment I can see questions with this race. I can kind of see now why maybe the new RPG book chose not to include them. Also, I like the Crystal Gem thing, this gives me an idea.

@@sg-24 Sorry for spamming you with comments, but you should have mentioned in this video that the reason why Sara O'Neill (Jack O'Neill wife) died off screen, was due to cancer caused by the radiation by the crystal discharges. I always found that a plothole, cause Jack was exposed equally or even more to the crystal radiation but never had any symptoms. I wonder if Jack was accidentally healed by the crystal, but they forgot to heal his wife (or didn't know they cause cancer). Really weird part of Stargate lore
@jorahtheexplorer3262 Жыл бұрын
@crobar1 the number of times Jack had been through a sarcophagus he probably got healed that way
@crobar1 Жыл бұрын
I don't think the timeline fits, I checked O'Neils first use of the sarcophagus was S06E06 "Abyss" (when he was tortured by Ba'al), too much time passed for the cancer to not show symptoms. Also they had regular medical checks, some test should have showed it. It's a plothole, they just killed Jacks wife off scream for some random reason. The only explanation I can think up is that our medical devices and tests in 1996 was still bad at detecting cancer and some random technology healed O'Neill (message in a bottle) or he was healed off-screen . I really don't get why they killed her off screen and explicitly stated it was cancer caused by the radiation of Unity crystals, just caused lore inconsistencies and me to complain about it to random strangers on the internet. @@jorahtheexplorer3262
