Auquitaine - Humbug! SGU was decent! Different yes, but still good! The sad thing is that Stargate fans are not numerous to keep new series coming.
@KLamki14 жыл бұрын
@@Erin-Thor It's funny because the writers of SGU directly insulted and blamed the old fans for the failure of their new BSG ripoff edgy younger audience show. See if I can find the direct quote... *said executive producer and co-creator Brad Wright. “I think getting moved on the schedule has hurt us. And the fact that some of the fans that liked SG-1 and Atlantis were so angry that they have deliberately hurt us, which is unfortunate.”* They said bunch of other BS towards the fans when SGU was revealed. He said something along the lines ''we don't need the old fanbase' and that they're looking for younger audience. They couldn't get the numbers because they alienated their existing niche fan base. Just like how CBS is giving the Trekkies the middle finger as well. MGM shouldn't have abandoned its fans and they may have still been around and not gone bankrupt and sold off to Disney for spare parts.

KLamki1 - I’m not sure I agree. Oh, BTW, I liked SG Atlantis also. I’m no expert but I believe... understand (?) the studio or networks contract airtime, producers pay to develop, write and film each episode. When it airs they recoup their money from advertisers based on the number of people that watch. If they make their money back, profit, if not loss. SG has a relatively small fan base, albeit a loyal one. Pissing of their fan base might have a small effect, but it’s all about the money. Networks don’t continue to air episodes of a series that aren’t pulling its weight, and producers will only fund so many episodes when they aren’t making money. They hope to make enough to break even when it airs, and profit on the reruns, but that revenue isn’t guaranteed. Saying that the fan base was upset, has no direct effect on its continuation or cancellation, as both are driven by advertising revenue. Some shows are made in-house by a private production company to more tightly control costs such as Friends, Seinfeld, and SG was by universal. But the money still fuels each season, not enough viewers, less revenue, why would producers or production companies continue to bankroll a series?
@KLamki14 жыл бұрын
@@Erin-Thor Was it the sole reason why their studio went bust? No. The show itself SGU failed because of poor ratings. Syfy formally Sci-Fi leaked the poor ratings. So yes the fans were in part responsible. Ratings still determine if a show is cancelled on their channel. They didn't get that new audience that they were looking for and they flopped and you can't gain any money on reruns because that requires existing fan audience that follows the show for that to work successfully. In other words they were screwed. They spent a lot of money on a show that flopped and had no means of getting a return on their investment.

@@kellyrayburn4093 -- The best way to hide a "Real Stargate Military Operation " would in fact be to put it on air as Entertainment . In the long run "Plausible Deniability" based exposure is better than trying to keep something that "Fantastic" or "Phenomenal" a secret . Jimmy Stewart was an actual flyer in world war II flew missions, the whole nine yards. Which by the way refers to the nine yards of bullets in the machine guns. Jack O'Neill was such a great character... What RDA brought to the role, I don't think anyone else could have at that time. Remember, when the show originally started, it was pretty cheesy, as was pretty much all TV at that time. RDA managed to embrace the cheese while also somehow being authentic, and a total bad ass. Joe Flanigan and Ben Browder did well to learn from how he approached his role...

I wish some shows would do as much homeworks as Stargate did. Especially startrek, they're drifting away more and more from any kind of serious military portrayal. And that was very nice of the Air Force to treat Richard that way. Thank you.

The thing is, Star Trek doesn't really do military. Starfleet is NOT a military organisation by default. Its an Exploration organisation. Star Trek is not fighting in space (well, now it is that a lot), but meant to showcase a vision for a better tomorrow. A tomorrow where we humans overcome our worst instincts and work together to create a utopia.

This is soooo good to watch! Not only is he a superb actor, but the honor he gets from the real military feels so... deserved. I'm re-watching everything from SG-1 as we speak, and I just had to look up some things because I'm more attentive to the actors' performances than when I was 20-ish. But I had *no idea whatsoever* that things went this far, and it's truly heartwarming.

A great show that captivated us brought to life by great actors. It promoted a decent sense of duty and gave us all a glimpse of what we can all achieve. RDA is just one of those special people who clearly went to great lengths to portray the best. He is a genuine hero in his own right and a positive credit to his craft.

Thank you for spending time with our REAL heroes. My very young son was treated at Bethesda for seizures when he was 5. It is not far from Walter Reed. Mostly we stayed out of the beltway. Especially after a person working at the CIA was killed by a sniper waiting to turn into their headquarters three miles from the base we lived at. It was shut down shortly after we left. I guess they decided it was compromised. Thank you for some fun times!

why didn't they invite Amanda Tapping too? Her portrait of captain/major/Lt. colonel Carter was phenomenal and probably more in line with how a real air force officer behaves.
@grayeaglej4 жыл бұрын
Who knows, maybe for the same reasons none of the other actors were. Maybe they needed just one singular representative and noone represented all the different series over all the years better than RDA?
@littlemouse70664 жыл бұрын
@@grayeaglej well AT appeared in all the spin offs so in the end she was the one who represented the show as a whole the most. maybe because he was also an executive producer? anyway I like RDA so I'm glad he received their appreciation for what he did.
@grayeaglej4 жыл бұрын
@@littlemouse7066 You may have hit the mark with him being an Exec Producer. Yes AT did get some screen time in Atlantis, I dont recall it being nearly as much as RDA got though, wasn't it usually the McKay centric episodes? And was AT in any of the SGU episodes? If she was I have forgotten. Daniel and Teal'c got very little to zero screen time in the spin offs if I remember o.o Anyway its always nice to meet another Mouse. :)

@@apegues I personally drooled over Catharine Bell as the SGC head Medic and over the gratuitous use of Hotties and Hunks in the ranks of the Goa'uld, Ja'fah, and Tok'ra but yes, you are correct, Mrs Tapping was quite the attractive lady and superb actress to boot.
