In this modern Internet age though, older generation of fans have a LOUD voice to express their displeasure at beling left behind. With where the industry is right now, I don't really know what they could do to produce a successful Stargate show. What made and still makes the Stargate franchise so special was/is the extensive amount of mythological and character development that over 350 TV episodes and multiple movies allowed. In the industry right now the best than can be hoped for no mater the form of the new production would be 10 episodes every year or two. A reboot would never be able to recreate the amount of mythological and character development and a continuation would progress so slowly that the only real thing they could do is make a movie or mini-series based on all of the previous material -- not an actual continuation.

I've thought for a long time that Amazon should take a lead from history. In 1972 the US landed on the moon, and never went back. It was clear that the political pressure to close the Stargate programme was immense. Losing contact with Destiny may have been the catalyst which gave the Stargate Programme's opponents enough political clout to close it. You would need a reason for the programme. Contact with Destiny would be one another could be slaves fleeing the Lucian alliance another. A war between the Jaffa Nation and the Lucian Alliance is another, Teal 'c could make contact with Earth for assistance if such a war was going badly. A mothballed programme would also stop too much technological advance in the years since Stargate ended. This effectively creates something that could be both a reboot and a continuation

I think that a signal from Destiny could be that catalyst. Out of nowhere and years of silence the hate at the Cheyenne Complex activates for exactly 3.14 seconds and a message is received. We don't initially know who from or why. At the end of the first episode, after putting a team together and getting approval to do so we learn it is from destiny. As the season continues we learn more about this message. Is it even real? Who could fake it and why? What if it is genuine? Who has survived? What resources must be gathered to communicate with destiny? I would call this show Stargate Command. It would develop the ground work to revive both Atlantis and SG-U. I would make Three separate shows each faced with different challenges. Stargate Command could be somehow forced to go public after an accident and it focuses on how this changes things on earth. Anyway, I am not trying to write a whole script here, just a few ideas. I hope someone likes them.

New BSG had between 20 and 25% of the viewership of the original at its height. These numbers dropped off very quickly in later seasons. The show was eventually brought to a close due to the cost vs the viewership and the aimless direction of the final few episodes. Keep in mind, the highest viewership was for the beginning of the series which was closest to the original. I'm not saying you can't like new BSG or that it didn't have merit independent of the original. I'm just saying it doesn't count as being as successful as you may have been led to believe.

OK, my comment is a repeat of comments I've made on earlier videos. It's worth mentioning again: with Stargate, you can have a reboot continuation. What would that be? There is lots of footage of Danial Jackson doing instructional videos of principles. You have footage that could easily be rolled into a documentary format, starting from the episode where Janet Fraser is shown to die as a hero. So you have the second generation of gate travelers, with "documentary" footage in the first 10 minutes of an episode to provide context. Use the same universe. Use the same formats for episodes. For a kick, repeat the scene where Sam talks about McGyvering the gate dialling control. Now you get the idea.

My concern is that the idiots in charge of these IP's rarely learn from the mistakes of others, and never at all from their own. I can see this thing being girlboss gender-swapped race-swapped hard-rebooted, even though no StarGate fan wants anything other than a direct continuation of SG-1 (which btw, was always a very diverse show anyway, complete with one of the toughest, most brilliant and most likeable female characters ever put on screen anywhere, in the form of Samantha Carter). You’d think for streaming /Blu-ray sales alone they would want to do a, at least, a few direct to streaming “closure” movie or mini series especially if Jason mamoa would make a cameo or return, the star prowler alone could justify at least a modest budget. Also, the original BSG had a much higher viewership if you look at the ratings of the day. It was pulling Superbowl numbers back when people watched the Superbowl. I see this argument that the new series was this amazing success so often and people just never look at the actual numbers involved. Also, consider that original BSG was canceled due to a Lucas Film lawsuit. New BSG was brought to an end due to the viewership and lack of creative direction.

Hey, I have an idea for a new series, a continuation rather than a reboot. The story takes place about 2 years after SGU's ending. One day SGC receives an unauthorized wormhole with Furling's access code (rather a signed message written in their language), operator opens the Iris and there comes a big, like 1,5 meter tall, golden egg from the gate. It has Furling symbols on the shell. A team in the base figures out the symbols are a riddle, solve it, and it opens the egg, screwing the upper part off. Inside there is an unknown advanced control panel and a separate storage with message. Turns out Furlings are asking for help in a war with advanced "space orcs" they are losing. The message points out to a secret hangar on the edge of a nearby galaxy. SGC picks out a ship and a new team for the expedition, and sends them out. The expedition travels for some time and when they finally reach the hangar, they find out it's partially broken and without power. They fly with the ship inside, plug the egg to the hangar's system and figure out it serves as a key that enables the hangar to power up a new super-fast mean of travel - it takes energy and connections from universe's cosmic web to move a ship much faster than any known engine to date. So, the hangars starts collecting the required power and rotating itself to be able to reach Furling's galaxy. The docked ship starts slowly moving to front on rails, getting ready for the jump. In the meantime, the crew is exploring the hangar and finding information about Furlings from the hangar's system, as well as they were using it a long time ago to reach Ancients in the Milky way. Also, they get ambushed by the space orcs, who somehow managed to travel from Furling's galaxy to the hangar. There's crazy dark survival shooting scene, the orcs get inside the ship, and the crew manages to kill them in the end. Then the ship jumps and safely reaches Furling's galaxy. They are welcomed, provided with supplies, map of the galaxy and information about the war. Furlings are about 1,5 meter tall furry humanoids, who specialize in transportation technologies. They created bio-technology called Thorn, which some of them use to enhance their bodies. It can also be used to cover stargate (it literally grows purpura thorns on the ring), which make it "better" (that's how they were able to dial Earth and send the egg) and more compatible with other Furling's technology. So, it's the classic - new galaxy, new allies, new enemies, new technologies. In some of the latter seasons, Furlings would transport one of their controlled planets from one solar system to another using their transportation technology, to save it from orc's persistent and draining offensive. Also, even later, the expedition would be able to make contact with Destiny and help them to arrive to the galaxy, saving them. However, Destiny would get destroyed by the orcs. That would be after the SGU crew would manages to retrieve key information about the mission, background radiation, the "message from the God", etc... - they would be safe, get quite many data, but Rush would still go mad because there was possibly much more. I call these series Stargate:Purpura, because the Thorn technology Furlings use would have purpura color.

They could do a sort of hybrid reboot with starting over but still having the legacy characters in the show in leadership positions in the SGC, give them different names but have the actors there. It would appease most fans and end the issues of all the unended stories, or do the time jump, either way. Time travel itself sucks so going back is not worth the problems but starting the show 10 or so years past where we are now and they are restarting the gate after it was rediscovered after a couple decades after an accident that collapsed Cheyanne Mountain interior and the ships were all destroyed set us back and unfavorable administrations buried all the data. We would be effectively starting over but with a kick start when it is dicovered.

Before I read the comments, I know someone's going to say that Battlestar Galactica was successful as a hard reboot, the show had promise in the first season or so, but even at its height it was not as well watched as the original. The numbers were between 20 and 25% of the original and the show eventually came to an end due to low viewership. (Also because they clearly didn't have a sense of fun or direction.) Still, I don't see that Amazon has much of a choice here. Edit: I have to correct something I said. I quoted a 20%-25% number. This was inaccurate. The original had a Nielsen of 19.6 the reboot had a Nielsen of 3.2. The original had massive toy sales. The reboot did not. The original was canceled due to a Lucas Film lawsuit. The reboot ended due to low viewership. This doesn't speak to the quality of either series, just cold hard numbers. Those track lights in the original were certainly egregious.

The Battle Star Galactical reboot worked well 25 years after the original series ended. It had excellent writing and directing from people who knew, understood, loved and respected the original series. The addition to a much improved budget and a generational leap in special effects gave the fans everything they might have wanted in the show and more (well except for the weak ass flubbed ending and the dodge on what Starbuck was after pushing it as a mystery). Doing a reboot now would be 13 years since the last Stargate series (SGU). It will still be fresh in everyone's minds, instead of something they recall from 25 years ago. Nobody is going to be eager to see a repeat of the Stargate Origin story. If you want to throw spaghetti at the wall, let the original film maker produce his two continuation movies based on his ideas (don't let him redo the original movie, we already saw it). If you want a newish stargate series, start it off in a distance galaxy on an alien but humanish planet with their discovery, their fresh eyes and see where that leads. New bad guys. New challenges. Maybe connecting to earth in future seasons, maybe not. Oh yeah, and make that alien planet a steam punk technology level. Oh, and since the Asgard are mostly extinct, for the new alien planet, meeting humans will be like meeting the Asgard was for Earth.

There is no hope for the franchise regardless of what direction Amazon takes. Just like every big corporation these days, Amazon is 100% profit driven. There will be no heart, there will be no passion, there will be no story that isn't laced with a 'message.' I'm honestly quite surprised that there are still so many people holding out hope. Unless they go full on 'Deadpool & Wolverine' the franchise is dead.

They can always start a new timeline and at some point reveal this is a different universe and then multiverse some cameos/actual original series actors into it at some point then shows they arnt sh*thing on the original series by deleting it. They sorta did this with continuum. The thing i would warn against is bringing carter/Mackay as their scientific knowledge would push the earth tech too far (unless you wipe their memory i don't know)

Best thing i could think of is make a new SG team. SG-3 and show there adventures. reboot it to season one but make it run parallel to SG-1. So when they gate into a black hole, now SG-3 can't dial home. SG-1 visits planet xp200 now SG-13 are going back and investigating other things of interest on the planet. Show that although SG-1 was important other teams had amazing adventures as well while paying homage to the original by making seasons flow together.

I don't see why this is so difficult. A new stargate team, new adventures. The galaxies have to big enough for new stories to be explored. Maybe Mckay discovered a way to remotely repair disabled gates, or form stable connections to gates in one alternate universe with an alternate earth, and maybe that alternate earth is our earth.. and the show was set in an alternate universe the whole time... i mean there's so many options. New team, new adventures, good writing.. how hard is that

@@Stinger522 I think its fear that is the problem. When things get big enough, and a lot of peoples paychecks depend on success, people are afraid to do anything creative. but that doesn't mean it's hard to come up with a story. Fear is the art killer.

I saw the original when it aired, and saw it again.later. It was so low budget, and trite because of the censorship protocols of that time. Frankly the reboot Galactica ended horribly. I expected somebody to pull out a guitar and they start singing "Kumbaya" as the screen faded to black. I do NOT see the people who fought so hard to escape, then fight and damage the Cylons and escape to "Earth", then give up, and move into mud huts or caves? It was extremely stupid, and ruined it for me. Up till then, it was good.

Although they're rare, some hard reboots do work. One example is, I think, Battlestar Galactica. I enjoyed the 2004 version much more than I did the 1978 version.

BSG was a reasonable reboot. Having SG-1 so powerful they can beat gods does make it hard for writing. Continuing Stargate-U maybe, because they don't have the resources or strengths, so aren't a force to strong to be in any real danger.

Reboots are hard to pull off. Like when a new superman takes over and the old fans hate them plus the first season of a new series normally all over the place, like SGU. It's probably best for a boot but the first season needs to be season 7 SG1

Is there some official or even not official vanilla timeline for Stargate? A timeline where everything is cleaned up to a point all things make sense (well, or something close to it)? For a continuation they would need something like this. Best and cheapest way to get it, would be to work with the Stargate community→they'll never do this. In the end, they want to make money. Well, a reboot could take place in a parallel Stargate universe. But with a reboot, they should introduce a completely new SG1 team, before they decide to regender the old team like in Battle Star. A reboot could be interesting. What if the Stargate functionality had been discovered earlier and what if it was another country than the USA? Canada or Europe or maybe even a company like SpaceX?

It was to good to be true but taking the easy way is what they will do because they can rewrite what was written. It becomes then an alternate universe with new rules and new players. That is what I see happening. I have a great way of doing it because I have 8 scripts already written for them with 1 script that would be perfect as a new threat and a new feature for them to start with but why ask me ... I wish they would!

A hard reboot could work, you only need look at the BSG reboot to figure that one out. Will it piss off a lot of old time "Gaters" like me...yes...up until the point the new crew and writing grabs us with content and storylines. What about Katee Sackhoff as Colonel Jack O'Neil? I would NEVER have picked her for a Starbuck but DAMN, it worked. As for the first storyline...just pick up the hard cover comics that finished the storyline for SGU..... If you havent read them, it goes like this: SPOILER ALERT...some Ancient Atlanteans are still in stasis on another part of the ship.. when Eli starts tinkering with the systems to get his pod to work, he wakes them up. There's drama, some issues solved, some others uncovered, and then the story continues AFTER the original SGU crew get stargated back to Earth and their other planets. THEN, a NEW CREW continues the SGU mission of finding the origin of the hidden message woven into time and space at the time of the big bang. There ya go. Easy Peasy!

A hard reboot with new young actors portraying Col Oneal, Carter, Jackson & Tealc. would work if the new actors are good & the script is none "WOKE". They could have a new Star Gate team Such as SG7 team with new Characters never seen before. Col Oneal was SG1 The leader of the New Star gate team could be General Oneal & retired General Carter's Son. hmm that would be cool. Carter & Oneal could never get together while both were on active duty but if general Carter retires they could romance each other & marry.

A reboot of SGU could work, or a new team goes to Destiny. A continuation would be difficult since they already have all the Asgard technology, Ancient technology, and Ori technology.

The very fact they have all that new technology allows them to go to and resolve SGU. A reboot will NOT work. You can't leave fans in the lurch like that. It's an admission on their part that the low IQ morons they hire today can't resolve, or have the creative talent to do a continuation.

I would love a continuation. I don't want to see the original SG1 and Atlantis crew erased and started over. Richard Dean Anderson's Col O'Neal is one of my favorite characters ever. But I just don't know how'd they'd do it other than continuing SGU (which I'm more than open to, canceling that show was a crime lol). Earth is a galactic force stronger than basically every other race in the galaxy. The Goa'uld are defeated, the Ori are gone and we basically can assimilate their tech by taking their ships, we have the Asgard technology and I'm sure Daniel probably has formed a religion teaching others how to ascend. Even the Wraith wouldn't stand much of a chance against Earth's fleet. They'd have to invent a new enemy that takes out most of our armada which would force us back to mostly using the gates. And can the really have the gates be a secret anymore? How long could they keep that plotpoint going. Do they turn society into a interplanetary civilization? Honestly, that would be kind of cool and interesting. Idk hopefully, the "experts" can come up with something good. I'm going to watch, regardless, but please do the it justice, SG1 was so good and not just a mindless action show. Sidenote; I really want a Stargate game, maybe an RPG or FPS.

@@ericbmnt39 it was/is a TTRPG, sorry, I think table top first when I see RPG. As for video games (I am primary PC) there is a good mod called The Pegasus Chronicles for Star Wars Empire at War. There is an SG mod for Homeworld and then there is Stargate Incursion for Sins of a Solar Empire. For FPS there was an old Doom Mod. Stargate Unleashed (sorta) for Mobile. If you can find some unofficial servers there is Stargate Resistance, which was official.
