Noticed you laughed when he repeated the question to Captain Carter. You'll find out that Richard Dean Anderson in the part was a big plus because he turned O'Neill into a funny, relatable character, not just a military tough guy.

Keep going with this show, it opens up into a huge universe. Some 200+ episodes making it one of the longest running shows on TV. I'm watching it again on cable in the UK, enjoy Jack's laconic sense of humour. Great show and its spin off, Stargate Atlantis. Trivia: as someone below says, the Macgyver gag was a reference to Anderson's earlier action show (recently remade) and Don S Davis, who is General Hammond, also appeared in MacGyver.

The first two episodes originally were a single double length pilot episode. So that it felt like a movie is not that strange.

The humour in this compared to the movie, Was very much down to Richard Dean anderson, He only agreed to take the part of they changed the character to more lighter than how Kurt russel.portrayed it iin the film

When they first kidnapped the earth woman in episode 1, Teal'c actually turned and shielded her with his armoured body when they started shooting. So he wasn't such a bad guy. 1:46

They leave it open because when the wormhole forms it would destroy the iris.

1:49 A great idea because it would create urgency and tension. But it doesn't actually happen that way-- we can see here the wormhole engages while the iris is firmly in place.

1:42 An interesting observation. On the face of it, you'd assume they keep the iris open until the Stargate activates so the iris would not be destroyed by the kawoosh (yes, that is a term for it). But there are many instances where the Stargate activates with the iris already closed. So yeah, we return to the question: Why wasn't it closed in the first place? 2:33 Interesting. Which means that, while the matter cannot re-integrate, the energy still comes through as kinetic force (the banging).

While it's definitely not one of my favorite episodes, it shows that Carter not only has brains, she's a badass when she needs to be. No skipping allowed. However, I do skip it, and many others whenever I do a series rewatch. Can't skip it first time through.

I agree with John Cee and Amanda G. No skipping on the first watch through. Skipping episodes is for 2nd watch, 3rd watch and beyond.

I have a list of must-see episodes for Season 1 that I would use on a new viewer with limited time on their hands. The only interesting omission from the list is "Cor-ai". Don't get me wrong: It's a _great_ episode-- the omission is purely to budget time in getting a new viewer hooked by the end of the season.
