Too much has happened in Jack's life for him to flip out very much. Everything that happens to him post-Charlie is a gift and he will simply accept whatever fate befalls him.

"You are one stubborn son of a bitch!" has got to be one of my favorite moments in the entire Stargate series.... the line was delivered with perfect realism by Richard Dean Anderson. How far the two characters of Jack and Teal'c have come since the first episode where they met.

6:52...to clarify...there’s a big difference between an unusable “buried”/sealed stargate...and an actually broken and DESTROYED gate...the fact a wormhole can connect AT ALL shows its intact and working...also if there’s a sufficient mass in the ring blocking the “ka-whoosh” from forming will prevent a wormhole establishing...but here a wormhole connects...so destroyed is not a suitable term... 👍✌️

Ah, so they've vanished before? So the current month-long stint of nothing isn't unusual? Apparently they're up to Season 9 on Patreon. How can they be _so_ far ahead? Patreon is meant to be an early-access sort of thing, not 'a year in advance' access.

Funny how the speeds will evolve later on. "A ship will be there next year." In later seasons you could cross a dozen galaxies by ship in one year.

Technological development has been pretty stagnant for tens of thousands of years. The Goa'uld are parasitic by nature and simply don't have the ability to innovate. The Nox became isolationist and refuse to innovate. The Asguard encountered their big enemy and became ultra-conservative (in thinking, not necessarily politically). Once the Tau'ri show up, though, we inject new ideas and ways of thinking so things really start picking up. We start by knocking out the most powerful Goa-uld, Ra, and then continue stirring shit up resulting in a complete alteration of the social and technological landscape of the Local Group (the Milky Way, Andromeda, Triangulum, and the few minor galaxies)

They were definitely inconsistent with the speed of the ships, though in this case it did make some sense. Here they were talking about a Tel'tak or something similar, a small and relatively slow ship, while in later seasons we're talking about huge motherships, some of Asgard design

The motto of SG-1 is "No one gets left behind" but in this episode, it can be interpreted in different ways. For the rest of SG-1, it means that they will do everything they can to get Jack back. For O'Neill it can be thought that his team stayed too late waiting for him and may have been killed at the Gate, this didn't happen but he had no way of knowing that.

That's the general mentality of most U.S. military members. The fleet sent to rescue the men on Wake Island very nearly mutinied when Vice Admiral Pye ordered them to turn around, abandoning the mission. Hell, we'll jump into the fire to rescue allies, no questions asked.

Welcome back! I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, and I enjoyed it more watching your reaction. I watched this in my mid teens with my Sam/Jack shipper goggles in full effect and obviously for that reason I didn't enjoy this episode first time around. It was kind of sweet and wholesome now all these years later! I cannot wait for you to get to seasons 4 and 5 cos that IMO is when things really pick up!

That comet was not JUST a near miss.... near misses are technically anything that passes within about 4.5million kilometers of our planet. The asteroid that burned bright across the sky at the beginning of the episode, is scraping the atmosphere, which is much more than a near miss, lol.

Stargates can take insane levels of punishment without harm. Meteor hit? just tipped over and buried. A Naquada-improved Nuke that ignites the atmosphere on a planet and explodes with like 50 megaton 'bang'..... Gate remains active and NOT destroyed. Stargate getting pulled into a black hole? stays active and translates that shit THROUGH the other gate. Yikes indeed.

Even if Jack had in the back of his mind to some degree that Stargate Command would be able to convince one of their acquaintances or allies capable of space travel to go to the planet, Jack knows enough about astronomy to know that such a journey would take months, if not years, even though the ships are capable of faster-than-light travel.

Good to see you back. Hope you're still enjoying doing the show, your reactions are great! I think Jack doesn't react too much as it's quite fitting for his character, particularly as he has been in a situation before in his past military career being MIA. He's very much the military man and he knows what that entails, after all the first time we meet him in the movie he's ready to sacrifice himself and that occurs many times throughout the series.
@limiv5272

I liked the general idea of the episode and it was fun to watch but I thought Jack gave up too quickly. He knew that if the SGC couldn't get him themselves they'll ask a favor from someone with a ship, and that ships can take a relatively long time to get to him, so he just had to be patient. This is one of at least two planets where the episode ends with the SGC making plans to mine naquadah [the other I remember was the planet where Daniel got addicted to the sarcophagus], yet they always act like they don't have any and it's very urgent for them to get more. That inconsistency bugs me a little.

Never thought of it as a movie...that's very interesting. In this situation, yeah, I could see that. Very perceptive. Now that you mention it, there was a movie with a very similar plot. You may like watching it, and no one is reacting to it. Excellent movie, with Harrison Ford, called "Witness." Without giving away the plot, it entails an extended period for fish-out-of-water Ford to have to subsist in an Amish community, as he was nursed back to health from a bullet wound. The love interest aspect of the story was the same as this Stargate SG-1 episode.

it was nice, wasn't the best. Plus a dumb plot. They get the gate up and running, and with the stargate he's only a step away from staying with her so there wasn't any reason for them to not be together after, hey, get off work, take the stargate to your girl, or she comes here, etc. I remember watching it and going .. mmmm why do they have to not be together? lol. Regarding this episode, there was a minor bit of Stargate physics that gets retconned in the future. The line that Teal'c shoots through the open wormhole shouldn't have rematerialized on the other side as long as there was a part of it still on the Earth side of the wormhole. That being said, it's a great episode! I was disappointed that there wasn't any mention that Jack could return to the planet when he has leave time coming and he should have left an open invitation for his girl (can't remember her name right now) to come to Earth for a visit. There should have been more of an attempt for them to stay in touch with each other.
@NuparusProgramming
@NuparusProgramming 3 жыл бұрын
Wasn't there something a bit similar with Ernest? He went through the gate while being attached to a rope. When the gate closed, the rope got "cut off", yet he still rematerialized on the other side.
@Vonias
@Vonias 3 жыл бұрын
The gate works however the plot wants it to work honestly. The mechanics change all the time and the gates shown are often not the "canon" gate designs with incorrect Points of Origin and the such. It's one of those things you have to roll with in the Stargate Universe shows.
@limiv5272
@limiv5272 2 жыл бұрын
@@NuparusProgramming I always thought of that like this: Earnest and his wires weren't immediately materialized on the other side when he went through, the gate waited until the 38 minutes passed and then the connection was cut off and only what has already passed through the event horizon at the origin was materialized at the destination. That way it doesn't break the 'whole objects only' rule, unlike what we see in this episode with Teal'c and his rope. Not sure how they could've gotten around that issue in this episode though. Thoughts?
@DonnaPinciot
@DonnaPinciot 2 жыл бұрын
@@limiv5272 If the momentum of individual parts of objects is kept, then it's possible that you could shoot something through a wormhole that's still attached to you, then go through yourself and have it still fly out ahead of you and attach. It would take some very precise measurements to make it work and keep Teal'c from falling back through the event horizon, but it's theoretically possible.
@limiv5272
@limiv5272 2 жыл бұрын
@@DonnaPinciot I like this idea. I think it would've been better if the writers established that going through a gate when it's connected to an incoming wormhole will just end in the gate spitting you out in the same place right before it shuts down. That would've made this episode work out much better, and maybe a few others
