Muy Bien! Awesome!!!!! What an amazing performance by all the musicians! Congratulations! And you picked a great song by the greatest band in history! :-) Ranthiel, you wrote: "As a woman it is very difficult to be in the field of music without being minimized, stigmatized and violated." Now comes the hard part. My Dad spent his teenage years running from the Soviet Army (at one time, the shooting was only a day behind him, and bombs often fell around him). My grandmother was in a similar position, only she was older, and had a younger teenage daughter in tow (my mom). They survived (and eventually met in a refugee camp) but my point is that the experience made them both tough as nails. Fast forward about 20 years--I spent my teenage years suffering under my high school's moderately strict dress code (no tie required, thank goodness!). OK, I didn't really suffer, but the experience did make me want to dress any way I damn well pleased; i.e. as casually as possible. And yes, this was in the late 1960s in Silicon Valley, with the hippies just an hour north, so I had good role models (LOL!). Then, one Thanksgiving, after I had finished college as an NCAA All-American wrestler (some of their toughness had rubbed off :-) ), they decided that they had enough of the sloppy, ungentlemanly clothes I wore. They lectured, and I argued, for three hours straight--before they gave up. The question they couldn't answer was this: This is a free country, so why should I be forced to dress the way someone else thinks I should dress if they are the one who is judging me with their prejudiced preconception about clothing? It's their problem, not mine. As women, you are in the similar situation. Only worse, because men are objectifying you. Is it their problem? Certainly. Are you affected by it? Yes. Can you do something about it? Yes again. But you need to recognize the decision you are actually making. Are you being like I was, not caring what other people thought of me? That attitude does give us a sense of freedom, but at the same time it also restricts us in other ways. As far as women are concerned, one problem is evolution. Men are hard-wired to notice that you are drop-dead beautiful, and they are hard-wired to notice the sexuality of your clothes. If they weren't wired that way... those of our male ancestors who did not notice... well, they didn't become our ancestors. They died out. You can blame men, or you can blame evolution, or you can deny reality and just get angry. I understand. The additional problem that you are facing, as a women, is that men are not taught self-control, they aren't taught to protect you, they aren't taught to sacrifice for you. They are being taught by the culture, as you are, that pleasure is the ultimate good, and that they can have it now. One way that you might think about this is to consider men as having a necessary handicap. As a kindness to them, let them see your beauty and hear your talent, but don't drive them crazy. Save that for a man who is willing to give his life for you--every day in little ways--and one who is worthy to raise children with, and to grow old with. Maybe you can all sing together too. :-)
