As a life long Tennessee Vols fan in every sport. This run felt so good. Year after year we kept coming up short. I honestly thought it was just gonna be our thing in the Tournament. But AS SOON as the Blake Burke check swing happened, I knew we might have. had a chance. We NEVER get calls, and always find new ways to lose. So something like that happening is a miracle. not to mention, supposedly there's no definitive rule for what does or does not constitute a checked swing. There're three criteria that are often looked at: did the hips fully rotate, did the bat break the plane, or did the wrists brake. only one of the three happened, so it was really a 2/3 chance it got called for Tennessee vs FSU. idk why ppl are so upset. even without that, they would have allowed TN 9 runs which isn't a good recipe for success anyways.

Just shows how many people don't really know baseball. A swing is not decided based on bat and home plate. This is because of how big the batters box is, you could be all the way up or all the way back in the box. Strictly based on batters hands and bat. Not saying this was a swing or not but its far closer than everyone is acting.

That 50/50 check swing wasn't the only close call and TN scored all those runs. Each team got bad/good calls throughout the game. The Vols didn't make an error in the outfield, they didn't give up the 4 two-out hits, and so on. They would've still won the their way to the Championship I think. To call one 50/50 check swing as the sole reason they won is just doing the team a disservice.

@SRSMike Honcho ....you forgot to mention that Dylan Dreiling (kid that walked off FSU) homered in the 7th inning of all 3 of the championship series games. Another first and, even with less juiced bats, this CWS tied the record for most HR's and the Vols almost broke LSU's single season HR record set in 1994 or 95. Came up 4 short of a 30 year old record nobody thought could be touched with today's equipment (bats have less pop), cap on number of regular season games and the huge park in Omaha that replaced the more HR friendly park. We also had 5 guys with 20 HR's when no team in history has had more than 3. Crazy stuff from possibly the best team of all time.

In my opinion the whole series boiled down to the “no swing check swing” on Tennessee’s Blake Burke with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. That and the defensive lapse on the fly ball to start the inning. FSU gets either of those plays to go there way they’re in the winners bracket which would have changed everything. Not an FSU fan but, damn, that no swing call would have been hard to take (no pun intended).

The SEC and ACC only MCWS has little to do with NIL baseball isn’t anywhere near driven by money the same way football and basketball are. In baseball it’s very rare to even receive a full scholarship. The truth is players who are given a chance from smaller schools or even D2-3 schools will take a spot on a D1 roster just for the promise of playing time and the best teams and coaches are in the south as well as most of the players so the SEC and ACC will always dominate. And that’s why teams like USC who have way more money and a more prestigious history than some southern schools don’t succeed as much as southern teams anymore. I totally agree with the take that NIL in it’s current form is ruining the competitiveness of college sports but the reason the south dominates in baseball doesn’t pretty much anything to do with NIL money they are just better.

FSU lost both games fair and square. Tennessee got fucked all night by the ump. The strike zone was squeezed when Tennessee was pitching and expanded when FSU was pitching. FSU faced 5 batters with 2 outs and threw 6 2 out 2 strike pitches and still couldn't get an out. People keep using that bullshit picture that's from a completely useless and deceiving angle that makes it look like Burke went further around than he actually did.
