Mark Teixeira will not be a Hall of Famer, but the impact he had on the direction of baseball was far greater than his play…

Basically he caused a butterfly effect by getting traded to the Angels and getting traded from the Rangers to Atlanta causing the Angels to get a compensation pick which turned into Mike Trout, and Tyler Skaggs and giving the Rangers pieces that help them make the World Series in 10 and 11 and even today with Jonah Heim

One of my favorite players of all time weirdly enough. I was always enamored with his batting stance and just big he looked. He was also a big piece for the Yankees to win in ‘09. .292/.383/.565, .948 OPS including a healthy 178H, 39 HR and 122 RBIs. Also my first baseball jersey is a signed ‘09 Texeira.

Nice video! I think a similar one about Zach Grenkie’s career would be interesting! His dominance in Kansas City and trade to the Brewers that set the mid-10s Royals on a World Series trajectory. Plus his stints in LA and Arizona. He’s definitely impacted the last decade.

We had a friend who played high school baseball with teixeira.this is the story he likes to tell about teixeria. teixeria really wanted to end the end so he could go home and have fun time with his girlfriend. So tex next at bat hit a giant home run to end the game.

a butterfly affect video idea that also involves Mark Teixeira and Mike Trout. If Paul Konerko signs with the Angels in the 2005-2006 offseason the Angels don’t trade for Teixeira (does he still end up with the Yankees?) and may or may not draft Trout. Then perhaps Kendry Morales doesn’t get hurt after hitting a walk off grand slam and Mark Trumbo and CJ Cron perhaps end up drafted by other teams.

I feel like Kenny lofton needs more attention. Especially his late career journeyman period. Immaculate grid legend. In fact, that might be a good series idea "immaculate grid legends"- focusing on all those guys that seemingly played with every random team.

I love how as well when Tex was on the Angels in the post season and they got knocked out by the Red Sox, the man who started the video with Boras going at the Phillies for the bonus JD Drew was on that Red Sox team. Not a huge story line, just gave me a chuckle. Love the stuff man :)

Another way he changed baseball: he was the out-of-their-league free agent the nascent Nationals were after when Scott Boras gave Mark Lerner the advice which would set in motion the path which would put them in the position to draft Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon.

To say Skaggs wasn’t “given” the chance is short sided, that implies someone or something kept him from it. That someone is himself, and poor decision making. It’s tragic for sure, especially for the family but in the end he made the choice himself. No one forced him to do it. So it’s not that he wasn’t given the chance, it’s more so he didn’t give himself the chance.
