I'm surprised that the 153 pairing was at Stansted. Because i heard a story some years back that Network Rail when they need to do some track recording they once hired preserved AC Locos number 87002 and 86101 to top and tail a Network Rail test train because as you said diesels tend to set off the station's fire alarms. Having said that thank you Ross for filming Stansted Airport as i have never seen what the station looks like...Until now that is. PS Happy New Year Ross to you and your family.

I used to work at Stansted, for three and a half years. Always stressful that place, and I always had to run to get the train at the end of my shift. No local services run to the airport so if you miss it you're stuck, and at that time of night it is a another whole hour until you can get moving again. Every time I managed to get onto a train, sometimes just as the doors would close, there would be relief inside of me, it always felt so good. Even though I left in July 2023, it's somewhat nice in a way that the station has not changed all that much. Thank you for sharing it on here, always admired your videos 😊

If you ever come south, try Tonbridge West Yard. There is an infamous footbridge that crosses the entire depot with a view of TON station and the Leigh Mainline. Great for lots of SE, SN, GBRf, and special action. You can also show us the sometimes active 156 on stand there! If your lucky, you'll catch a Steam & Diesel 37 hauling heritage railway passenger mk2s under maintenance from the Spa Valley Railway!

Yes, that is correct. The staff here decided they wanted to ask me why I felt the need to have a camera out at the station and this meant I lost the chance to see the 755 leaving.

My suggestion would be for is that Greater Anglia should order few more Class 745/0s and Stansted Express to order few more Class 745/1s. So that they can keep their current trains on just 1 route. Or perhaps Greater Anglia to use some of the Class 720s on the London Liverpool Street-Stansted Airport service and some to operate from Cambridge North to Stansted Airport.

Yes, GA have constantly been short of stock on both InterCity routes hence why 720s are on the stansted expresses too. As you said, in this case, 1st is declassified.

The pair of 153s are Network Rail test trains known as VIUs (Visual Inspection Units). They typically only run here once or twice a year.

That's right, once every six months. Every single weekend in between, it's myself or a couple of my colleagues doing visual inspections on foot.

Some routes are less than 6 month, mainlines are almost always once per month and ultra sonic'd every 2-3 months depending. Thanks for the work you do MK7TDiVW! Hopefully the snow inspections arent causing too many problems for you!

Yes, most areas not guage permitted for 37s or MK2 coaches are done by 153s or the resident 950. I wish there was a schedule for these VIUs but it is very difficult to plan!
