BE GLAD you have never worked retail. From personal experience I have had things thrown at me, someone tried to clock me with a shopping bag full of apples, been screamed at, cussed at in 4 years there WAY more than almost 9 working at a rehab, threatened, harrassed by creepy customers, AND treated absolutely awful by supervisors. Retail workers (and food service workers, all service industry fields like that) really deserve better because they do not get paid nearly enough or treated nicely enough. Edit to add: I ALSO legitimately had someone not understand that you have to in fact HAVE the item you bought with you in order to RETURN it and get a return refund
@edgrimm58629 ай бұрын
I also have never worked in retail. However, I'm autistic and unable to close off my senses to my surroundings like NT people seem to be able to do. I've witnessed far more retail horrors than I would ever want anyone to, let alone wishing anyone to be subject to them. Also, I've known people who worked in retail and share even more than I'd witnessed.

Which is why I'm glad my job is just to push carts. That way the only crap I usually have to put up with is people leaving carts in the lot. Or garbage in the carts. Or leaving dirty diapers in the carts. I also have a sensory disorder, so that doesn't help.

I've worked several retail jobs, the worst one was at an auto zone. I don't even own a car but I had picked up on the basics of car maintenance and if I had any questions I just asked a nearby manager. However, it was apparently always my fault when a customer bought a wrong part, or bought the wrong part, or the part they bought didn't immediately fixed their problem, or they looked at the part, said it was fine, came back 15 minutes later screaming at me that I had sold them the wrong part despite the fact I had shown them the fucking part and they said it was the right one, take your fucking Ujoint and spark plugs and shove them up your ass you cunt I AM NOT A MECHANIC!

So, there was an elevator stuck right below the floor you were on. What you witnessed was actually a fairly standard procedure for getting to the controls on top of the elevator that they can use to override the emergency breaks and hand-winch it down to the bottom floor where they can fix it for realsies. I mean, yes, it could have been the cryptid you imagine. But if so, I suspect that cryptid was an elevator repair cryptid.

@edgrimm58628 ай бұрын
@@basicallyghostie7362 Yes, but it's not nearly as terrifying when you are the person and can see the elevator right there beneath you. From having talked with some elevator repair people, I've heard that the most terrifying jump onto an elevator to make is the second one. Of course, the first time is pretty bad, but nothing prepares you for how much the elevator will move on its springs the first time. So the real terror of the first time happens after you make the jump. The real terror of the second time comes from knowing that's probably going to happen again and still needing to make the jump. So, why make the jump? There's a ladder right beside the door, one could just open the door all the way and use the ladder. It's because it's a diagnostic and possibly a repair. If the elevator does *not* jump around on its springs like some lunatic jumped on top of it, then the elevator is royally stuck, and it's not simply a matter of hand-cranking the elevator to somewhere you can open the doors and let the people out. It's also possible that the elevator was almost royally stuck, in which case jumping on the elevator can break it free, so that the hand winch will work.

I did retail during a seasonal in October. It was WILD. People really don’t bother putting stuff where they belong. Some people were rude for no reason, but most were nice. And as long as I was getting paid, it was whatever. When I go to a store, I’ve been putting stuff where they belong ever since. The thing about doing retail. You don’t realize how tiring it is to put stuff back until you do it yourself. So props to all the people who did retail.

If you were washing towels from a hair salon, how likely is it instead of a red towel in that load of towels, instead what got in the load was a small container of red hair dye? I understand that there are a wider variety of ways this stuff is packaged than I'm really aware of, but I seem to recall one time being around from a friend coloring her hair purple, and the hair dye was in a package that was similar to the packaging for a single wet wipe - something that could fairly easily get dropped into a laundry hamper and be missed as someone loaded the hamper's contents into the machine. I'd guess there are probably other varieties of hair dye packaging that would also possibly result in that outcome.

I love your storytime, especially knowing that weirdness happens on a regular basis: A bar I worked at did an unplanned bud-light call and response of "dilly-dilly". A bush outside our retail building spontaneously combusted. A dog walked into the bar, and was immediately recognized. A man almost decked my boss over a crab cake. Another drew a firearm on a coworker over stolen lunch. My one coworker picking a fight with the wife of a state trooper. The little bits of madness no one will ever believe 😂

My professor conceited that exploding is technically something.

Fun fact: everybody else is doing "creative" truths on their resumes. Don't lie on facts, like where and who, but wording? Absolutely. If you're willing to put in the work to fill in those gaps yourself, employers literally don't care. They just want you to be able to do the thing when they ask you to do the thing

Just for the record, I'm not convinced professional economists are all that good at economics. It's been my impression that it's the subject where learning the professor's pet theories is the only way to get an A, as it's the one subject where there really isn't actual agreement by most of the specialists. I don't really know, all I know is it seems like there's severe disconnects between different economists. The biggest difference is of course between Republican and Democrat economists, but there's still differences within each of those, as well as economists from every other political affiliation.
