June 23, 2024 - 4K SpaceX Falcon 9 Starlink 10-2 launch over La Jolla.
Some camera shake (not a fluid head tripod), some focus drift (when zooming), but some good tight footage here and there...
1:40 - Clear bright booster in the plume (through the clouds)
2:10 - Fairings become visible (fairly good tight shot)
3:02 - (focus gets soft, camera gets shaky (sorry))
3:48 - SeaWorld Fireworks.
4:40 - Re-entry burn.
This was shot on a Sony A9 with a Sony 70-200 2.8 II, aperture set to f3.2, ISO Auto 100-6400.
I think this launch video is much better (but no fireworks): • Falcon 9 Sunset Backli...
That was handheld, but pretty well stabilized (shorter lens 28-70mm).
What I learned this time (well, confirming my eclipse video lesson): I can't trust the electronic viewfinder without my glasses. I'll have to start shooting with my eyeglasses (darn!). I should try the EFV diopter setting. In any case, zooming throws off focus and I need to be able to adjust quickly and precisely.

complete surprise. I would have used a wider lens to capture both had I known. Next time...

Thanks. Very nice detailed launch footage and very nicely focused (at least for the first half or so). I'm curious what equipment you used to capture this. Thanks again.

I tossed the info in the Description. The biggest thing I need to do now is use the electronic viewfinder diopter adjustment so that I can actually see if it's in focus or not. I found the EVF to be really important (I've screwed up a number of videos by not being able to verify focus (including the last Total Eclipse video)).

@@golookup Thanks for adding the equipment list. That is one pricey lens but you got some very exquisite footage from it.

@@GlennSisson I bought the lens to shoot my son's volleyball and got a lot of good use out of it (ucvolley.com)

these twilight launches are amazing. I can't even see the daylight launches. We've been lucky to get a bunch of twilights, but now that I'll be looking to get some SeaWorld fireworks in the frame, they'll Never Happen Again :)
