How to splice a Starlink cable.
Make your Starlink easy to set up and move.
The plug I used. It fits pretty loose in the socket soap put it in a safe place away from weather if possible.

I really appreciate seeing how to do this. I like the idea, but I think I would install the connector behind a small hatch or something to keep rain & snow out of the way.

It comes with a plug that plugs the hole when not in use.

Just remember that your standardized RJ45 network plug that you just installed uses non-standard wiring. It's fine for your Starlink but other network devices must not be plugged in because of the different wiring.

The plug I used was just a pass through. As las all the wires are matched up. The wire has no idea it was even cut.

Hello Marty, good video!! I would like to extend my cable with cat 6 because I have to climb on a 40 meter high tree with the dish . The original long cable is too short for this project.What are you using for Rj45 connectors? They have made of metal at the back for the bleed wire, right? Find only Rj 45 made of plastic Contact with. Best Regards

Do you need something like this. It has metal sides. Use cat 6 shielded wire. www.amazon.com/trueCABLE-Through-Shielded-External-Connector/dp/B088KSW9Z7/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=3632GQLJZJXV2&keywords=rj+45+with+ground&qid=1663026864&sprefix=%2Caps%2C262&sr=8-4

Wrap the conne Rion with aluminum foil for further shielding.

Extra shielding is not really needed. There’s not much in the line of external RF when out in the wild. The only things that can cause a problem is the solar and generator. But they are well grounded. Now my HF radio can bleed into IP. CCTV camera systems and a nearby TV.

Hey Marty, V informative video thanks. What is the dish connected to on the other side of the new connection, does it still go into the Starlink router or something else. Any idea if it’s possible to bypass the router and just connect to an existing network of access points or will there not be any connectivity if the router is bypassed?
@CrazyMarty
@CrazyMarty Жыл бұрын
They do make an adapter that gives you a network port. Then you can select not to use there router. But it still needs the router box to run everything because the dish and router are a mated pair.

@@CrazyMarty Nice and easy. I suspect you've done more than one of these CM. What you did is best described as a pass through connection on your van wall, NOT the special connection Starlink use, I guess that's what people are asking. I've see experts muck that crimp up; you made it look easy. Adapter give better speed and can bypass Starlinks sometimes flaky WiFi + get better security. It's a no brainer imho. Thanks for the how-to vid Marty.

It’s basically a pass through connector. The Starlink ones are special extra long micro HDMI plugs.

I decided to drop $25 on the RJ45 dongle thinking I could cut it up instead of the main cable. However, when I cut the dongle cable open, it has the same shielding and drain wire, and it has the same twisted pairs you show in this video. However, there’s a second set of identical but smaller gauge wires in there cable. I figured I could just cut those off and use the larger gauge wires in the T568B configuration like you showed. Context: I’m trying to inject a Netgate SG-1100 (pfSense) router between the dish and the Starlink Router… I didn’t have any likes at all on the Netgate when I plugged it in and I had no connectivity. Any idea what the smaller wires are for? Maybe just order a second standard cable to do this with since yours clearly looked as I would have expected to see?
@CrazyMarty
@CrazyMarty Жыл бұрын
I’m sure the dongle works as a splitter But how they run the wires and what is actually the network wires is a spaceX proprietary Secret. A standard RJ45 is a standard. But how spaceX uses the wires is unknown. The Router and dish are a mated pair. The easy way to add a router is just have it search and connect via the wi-Fi. Then just connect to that router. The dongle is made to just add a port so you can put on a switch. The spaceX router has no admin access other then the stupid app. Everything is made for the non computer person.

Just connect the new router to the ethernet dongle and put the starlink router in bridge mode.
@UndyingShadow83

The smaller wires are actually the Ethernet connection FROM the router. The actual wired Ethernet switch is in the router, you just need the adapter which has the LAN port/electrics in it (This is completely idiotic and I have no idea why they did it this way.) You can ignore/cut the smaller wires if you're just using it as a makeshift cable adapter and put a normal RJ-45 connector on the THICK wires. Then you can plug the Starlink Cable into the unit so you don't have the cut the actual Starlink cable.

The other issue is that Starlink uses non-standard POE wiring, so a regular RJ-45 injector won't work. You'll need to wire up something custom or get a POE injector specific to Starlink

Hi Marty, I see you made sure to crimp the drain wire. Did you test to see if continuity passed through the connector for it?
@CrazyMarty
@CrazyMarty Жыл бұрын
It should. It does have the side connections that would pass the ground back to the router. If side connections went to the connector and grounded it would make a place for a ground loop potential. That would be bad.
@hotbaux
@hotbaux Жыл бұрын
What if I don't have those type of connectors? I just have plastic ones. So in saying that the drain wire probably wouldn't do anything? Should I get the type of connectors that you have so that the drain makes contact with something metal?
@CrazyMarty
@CrazyMarty Жыл бұрын
Have the drain wire is there to stop RF interference. You can probably get away without it. But having it is better then not having it.

Just wondering. what if starlink had their own wiring schematic and not following the standard cat6 wiring diagram. Then everything will be screwed. I guess this worked coz nobody complained/commented in here.😗

All I’m doing is a pass through. As long as all the colors match up to each other. The cable doesn’t know it was cut.

There’s more weird to the guy then I can explain. One evening he got stuck on the other side of the lake totally naked. He ran from the cops down in Libby one evening and evaded them. He did nothing but talk about how he was going to shoot down a Russian jet using a pistol. It went on for weeks. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/e52teZWBhqh5Z9k
