We have a Basecamp 20X and two GC3s. We also have the same Dishy Starlink setup and a Victron Multiplus II inverter/charger. I didn't hear you mention, but if you use the Victron smart dongle along with a Victron SmartShunt it will calculate the remaining time of charge based on usage. It has been a great tool to know what is happening so there aren't any surprises. We will be heading to CO soon and it will be our first test with the new battery setup. Safe travels!!

So I discovered a hack for the long cords and cables. Find a “sturdy” Christmas light or wreath winder. It looks like a giant wheel that wraps the cord much easier. I found a larger one and use it for my zero gravity hose. Absolutely love how it works. Especially for storage.

My work has two Starlink dishes and each setup uses a reel as you describe. Very important for those leads to not have kinks in the lengths.

Just a heads up- if you remove the Dishy metal stand, you can unplug the cable just like you can at the router end. Just pull the cable and it pops out!

For coax winding: try the "over / under" method. Videos can be found in the amateur radio space of KZbin. Stretch your cord out in the sun to get warmed up and work the kinks out once, then use the over/under method to coil. Once you get the knack of it, it works without kinks, is quick, and will likely prolong life of your cable.

Great video. I have been thinking about Starlink to allow me to take some longer trips and still work, but the power consumption is what is holding me back, as I don’t have a current solar system set up. My friend has it for his house because there is no high speed service there, and it is great. Happy to see you and the crew back out on the road!

I just watched a video from Sarah Yak over the weekend where she put 800 watts on her Transit high roof extended van. They are shade resistant from Optivolt Shade Resistant 100 watt panels, they are $279 for the High Voltage and $269 for Standard Voltage. Not sure if you want to spend that, or if you could write off as business expense since you need them to work, or a partnership.

My suggestion is to get two or 4 more panels that you can install in a ground mount. Just long enough cable that you can park in the shade and run them out in the sun.

Speaking from experience with Starlink… if that cord gets a link in it you won’t get connection easily if at all. I have 2 just in case one fails. I also have a telescoping pole mount for the dish. Its pretty nice and can put the receiver about 3-4' above the top of my Sportsmobile Van

Thanks for the video. You said you had friends who were on their 3rd starlink dish. What happened to their previous 2 dishes. Did they stop working? Any warranty on the dishes from Starlink?
@TailsofWanderlust
@TailsofWanderlust 8 ай бұрын
Great question. All of them were damaged from travel. It's due to them being transported inside and eventually all of them were damaged to the point of unusable, so not something warranty would cover.

Hello Cas, as this is a film from September, how did your Starlink arrangement go through your winter? I suppose with space being continuously cluttered with more Starlink satellites, they should increase your connectivity at the expense of those who want to do star gazing.
@TailsofWanderlust

It worked great. When I went on the road trip down to TX and through southern CA I used Starlink the whole time. They are more remote areas thou, so still yet to try in a busier area. And yes, it’s from September just never got around to editing it sadly.

Awesome set-up and what a beauiful location for remote work. We have been using StarLink in our rig for two years. It has been comepletely converted to 12-volt. By eliminating the StarLink router and the inefficient DC-AC conversion with your inverter you will get better battery life. Here is a YT link to our set-up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6vbmHVohrFrqq8si=L144LDrHIZ1EMenc
