I'm not sold on Starlink until they come out with a legit looking, RV specific kit. Everyone I've seen up close in a camper has the satellite panel rigged somewhere, and an overabundance of chord shoved out a window.

We’re running the cord out the back door. It’s not ideal, but it works. I may try to figure out how to mount it permanently later, but not yet. The cord (50’) gives us a little flexibility about what direction we park. We’re now looking for “complete sunshine” and “no tree” spots.

There is NO heating element...it's just adjusting the RF output power. Higher output power causes more heat.

That makes sense! I just had to do a little reading to understand what was happening. We have the option of Off, Automatic, or Pre-heat. Ours is set to Automatic. Our primary goal is to be thousands of miles away from snow in the winter, so hopefully we won't need to be too involved in this feature! Thanks for commenting.

Great video! Can you go month to month?
@CupcakeChroniclesTC3 ай бұрын
Yes you can! It’s a month to month “subscription” and you can pause/cancel at any time. We like that we can put the service on hold when we’re traveling overseas for several months at a time.

Have you seen signal strength impacted by snow or rain?
@CupcakeChroniclesTC3 ай бұрын
So far we can’t tell any difference in speed based on the weather. But…we’re not streaming or gaming, so our speed requirements are minimal. I’m checking speeds out of curiosity. We can live (unhappily, with cursing) with 5mps download. 10-20 is quite functional. Anything above 20 is gravy. (We did however have a lightening strike racy close to the camper that gave us the opportunity for reflection. The lightning strike was so close that the camper rocked. I wasn’t positive it didn’t hit the camper or truck until I looked, much later.)

I’ve thought about Starlink as a back up to our existing Internet provider. But outages are rare, we’ve got our cells for hotspots if necessary, and I hate monthly payments.

@@mongo1982 Once you own the hardware you can turn off the monthly subscription. Pay for it only when you want it. You pay for at a whack, but you don't need to pay every month for a service you don't need. We added Starlink because we want to be in the weeds, far (far) away from cell phone service. ;)
