This week we return to Master Tech Custom Coach RV and Marine in Elkhart, Indiana for the installation of Starlink Mobility's Flat High Performance Hardware on our motorhome's roof.
Over our years as full-time RVers, we've used a variety of tools to stay connected. We came close to adding a Starlink antenna to our set of tools last year, but decided to wait for an in-motion option... Hello Starlink Mobility!
In this video, we'll take you through highlights of the unboxing and installation of our new Starlink Mobility Flat High Performance Hardware. We'll talk more about why we chose Starlink Mobility, how we decided where to install it, and how our technician at Master Tech mounted the hardware on our RV's roof without drilling holes in our motorhome's roof.
We'll also talk more about the other connectivity tools that we have set up to work in conjunction with Starlink and how our overall internet system has been working for us while traveling and in campgrounds.

I got STARLINK for my home and I’m very happy with it! Learned about it from videos like this. We live in a rural area and internet was out more than it was in. Since STARLINK I always have internet!

Tell Austin you want the “Orraca Spot” inside the warehouse. lol. Jason worked on my Monaco chasis at the manufacturer plan. He signed every chasis he built back then and when I took my coach to MasterTech,….. he went under and his signature was still there! Awesome guys!

Great video on how y'all chose to employ Starlink for your needs. I sometimes think that having the antenna on the long cable to help get by things like a trees might be advantageous, but also a risk that it might "get up and walk away." Then again, having all-the-time connectivity while driving down the road could be very advantageous. It's a toss up, but for ease of use, I think if I had a Class A, I'd probably chose to go the same way y'all did. Perhaps a gimbal-antenna mounted in a dome would solve all/most of the issues by being able to point towards the best signal source (I wonder if Starlink investigated such an option/solution). Looking forward to hearing more!

I wonder if we could install all that power on a Beaver Rv. Would be perfect. Also would love to get rid of the rooftop AC and put a mini-split AC in the basement.

I dont know if i am just seeing it wrong. But the lower side of the starlink should be facing to the front of the RV.what i see is the higher spot is facing to the front of the RV. If thats the case the wind will be going under the starlink.

Nice video. Quick question: why was the antenna installed facing backwards (angled towards the rear)? Seems like it would add drag?

The A/C protects it because it’s slightly higher! The angle of the antenna changes based on where the satellites are!

Just curious if the final placement of the Starlink "dish" added anymore height to your rig... Is it still at or below the level of the solar panels, a/c units and the roof parapet, etc ? Having had a roof-clearing incident with a low-hanging branch on our first and forever only trip through LA, I am a little hypersensitive. 😂

So a question. With all the solar panels covering your roof do you not wash and wax it 1-2x per year? Is it necessary?

We don’t, but we have it checked once a year! The solar panels seem to protect it! 😊

Does it matter which direction your coach is pointed when you park? Have you had any issues when parked under trees?

No it doesn’t matter which direction & to this point we have only had very minor issues with trees but we work to pick sites with as few of trees as possible!

Nice setup, so your saying the fiber optic system at some parks is better than the Starlink system?

💯 because it is a direct connection. That’s always going to be much faster than any other antenna based system.

Starlink has many issues. If you want to pay out, then the monthly fees are worth it. Otherwise connectivity remains an issue.

The only issue we’ve had with Starlink connectivity so far is when we were parked under a canopy of trees. We’ll see how it does going forward.

There are less expensive plans that are available. For us, the priority service and ability to work while driving down the road is worth the cost. And our Starlink costs are less than our previous big data cards, so we’re actually saving money.
