In summary high performance dish is twice the price, twice the size, twice the speed and twice the power consumption.

Hoping you can help me out with a question I have a situation on my vessel where I would need to cut the cable for the high performance dishy I am hoping to purchase and mount ( the ends are too large for the only wire run avail ) Do you know if the high performance dishy cable Is a similar high end cat 6 cable to the regular gen 2 dishy ? Can it be cut and re attached ?
@ElliYacht1
@ElliYacht1 5 ай бұрын
The Gen 3 dish flat dish is our pick right now. It uses standard cat6 cable that can be cut and spliced. It performs on par with the HO and is IP67. The Trio Mount is a batter option vs the aluminum wedge mount on the HP that will ultimately corrode in a marine environment. Oh, and it’s only $599.

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply ! Would love to pick your brain a bit about in motion Does gen 3 work at speed ? Babe you done tests on that ? I’m not sure if we can get gen 3 in Canada We cruise extensively North Coast - Belle Bella and Prince Rupert

Hmmm....using a regular dishy in a very congested marina with a ton of surrounding masts. But hardly ANY dropouts of significance. Southern Florida.

Thank you for sharing, how did you mount your inmotion to your yacht?
@ElliYacht1
@ElliYacht1 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! We mounted it on our hardtop with the wedge mount that is included with the In-Motion dish. Instead of using their mounting hardware we used 316L self tapping screws that were predrilled. We used 3M 4000UV to seal the mounting screws. Also, they provided a marine waterproof gland to pass the cable through. Hope that helps!

I get you! The flat mount conversion for our standard Rv dish has a suction cup option. Maybe that would work on both the RV & boat?

Great video! As always 😊. We are wanting to purchase starlink for this upcoming season and have watched all your vids…so helpful. We are heading to Desolation and Princess Louisa this summer. Would you recommend the standard RV dish or in motion? I know they made recent changes and it’s now called roam, not sure how/if that will impact either of these dishes. Love to hear your recommendation 👍🏻 thanks!

So can you use two Starlink dishes with one Starlink RV service?
@ElliYacht1

Unfortunately, no. They each are independent services. However, you can have an manage both services under one account.

thanks for this video, i have an rv flat mount dish and frequently have issues so this is helpful. How is the bad weather performance? my rv dish seems to struggle with any rain systems even when minor.

Thanks for making & sharing this video. I've got Starlink on my boat so this is really useful. I am curious about the high performance flat dish, but Dishy seems to be working just fine. Before I got the Starlink I tried a 5G antenna and booster, but didn't see much improvement (I used the set up recommended by the Gone with the Wynns YTube channel). I used the small antenna that came in the box because the larger antenna and cable needed an adapter. (So maybe I didn't give it a good test.) Tip if you try this on a sailboat. I ran the antenna on the coaxial cable up the mast on one of the halyards. And then a little wind, a little spinny... and the cable fall off. The antenna wasn't heavy enough to pull down the halyard. I had to go up in the bosun's chair. So if anyone tries this set-up, tie a string to the halyard so you can haul it down again.(Also the way it lay, even if it weighed enough to drop, it was threaded through some rigging and a spreader. You could not do that if you tried, and it wouldn't have happened if I'd tied a string on it.) So I'm looking forward to your 5G video. Operating it is after all is free (use my iPhone as a hotspot). Otherwise I have to find someone who wants the hardware.

Thanks for the great description! If your 5g setup is a cell booster, what we’ll cover next is different. I’ve tried 5G cell boosters in the past and they are terrible for data. The reason is, they are a high gain single antenna. 5G really needs a 8 element Multiple In Multiple Out (MIMO) antenna to be effective. 6’ or shorter for the cable runs is necessary to minimize signal loss. On a sailboat, that’s almost impossible up a mast. Have a great week!

I never thought about having 2 dishes and 2 services. I assume that means you double your throttled connection speed when there is congestion. Does it also improve your dropouts? Or do both generally drop out at the same time? When you suspend service, how does that work? Is it month by month, or can you turn on the redundant service for an evening when there is congestion and then turn it off later that day when you are done? Do you add the connection speeds together when they are not throttled? If so, are you getting 300MB +?

For a real "apples-apples" test I'd love to see the test with the RV dish pointing north as Starlink engineers intended. The HP dish is designed for flat mounting (larger size and much wider field of view) so it makes sense that it does better than a flat mounted RV dish.
@ElliYacht1
@ElliYacht1 Жыл бұрын
The dish pointing North was engineered for stationary mounting, not a constantly moving platform like a boat. That said, many people are fine with keeping the standard dish configured to constantly realign North and the associated +2 minute drop outs, while anchored out. That doesn’t fulfill our, or most boater’s requirements, IMHO.

Thank you for the video! Did you have a chance to test the flat Standard Dishy at anchor in terms of connection drops caused by rolling/swinging vs the non-flat alternative?
